Though ostensibly a sequel to Al borde del terror (1988), this movie is self-contained and does not follow the plot of the earlier film. Watchers 3: terror en la selva (1994) is a rather loose sequel to this movie, while Engendro asesino (1998) is another self-contained, free retelling of the original novel (although it does borrow plot elements originally created for "Watchers 2", like the creature being christened AE-74).
Tracy Scoggins told Femme Fatales magazine she and the dog were supposed to be uncommonly bonded, but, in real life, the dog hated her. They had to put Alpo on her face for it to lick her cheek.
Unlike the first film, which received a limited theatrical release, Al borde del terror II (1990) was released directly to home video.
Screenwriters John Brancato and Michael Ferris were jointly credited under the pseudonym "Henry Dominic," as neither were members of the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) at the time.
