The Japanese garbage collectors' union demanded that the film be banned from video shelves as it disparaged trash collectors, portraying them in a poor light.
Charlie Sheen pulled a prank on Emilio Estevez by saying that he had punched a paparazzo in a restaurant on the night before filming. Sheen took it further by having an on-set police officer who was working security arrest him for assault while he was filming a scene. Estevez was stunned until Sheen returned laughing.

The distributors struggled with the poster artwork and were unhappy with the designs thinking they made the film look too much like a straight thriller. The final result, a hastily put together and badly edited image of the brothers, a trash can and a pair of legs sticking out was used but came in for some criticism by the cast who thought it looked cheap and tacky.
