Presumed Innocent season 2: Jack Reynor to star alongside Rachel Brosnahan in Apple TV+ series
Jack Reynor
According to Deadline, Jack Reynor is set to join Rachel Brosnahan (Superman) in the second season of Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent.

The first season of the legal thriller was based on the 1987 novel of the same name by Scott Turow, but the second will be based on Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray, which will be published next year. Although the logline for the series remains under wraps, the synopsis for the novel reads: “When Leila Reynolds is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her.“

‘Heightened Scrutiny’ Trailer: ACLU Civil Rights Lawyer Chase Strangio Makes History at the Supreme Court While Fighting for Trans Rights
Image
Chase Strangio is already part of U.S. history: The ACLU attorney became the first trans person to argue a case before the Supreme Court, and now, he is being immortalized onscreen with documentary “Heightened Scrutiny.”

Strangio was the lawyer to argue the United States v Skrmetti, which was about whether or not the state of Tennessee had the constitutional authority to prevent trans youth from receiving gender-affirming care such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy. The court upheld the Tennessee law by a 6-3 vote, no surprise given its conservative supermajority as appointed during President Trump’s first term.

“Heightened Scrutiny” premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival prior to the court’s decision. Sam Feder directs, with Laverne Cox, S. Mona Sinha, Bill and Ruth Ann Harnisch, Lisa Freeman, and Sara Hinkle executive producing. Co-executive producers are Charlotte Cook and Andrew Kim, and Amy Scholder and Paola Mendoza produce.

Michael Crichton & James Patterson Bestseller ‘Eruption’ Being Adapted By Kaz & Ryan Firpo For Sony
Image
Exclusive: Following Jurassic World Rebirth‘s $322 million-plus global opening weekend, Sony has hired writers Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo to adapt Eruption, the No. 1 New York Times bestseller from Michael Crichton and James Patterson.

At the same time, we understand that the project, which Sony won in a competitive auction last summer in a major deal, is now an open directing assignment with Free Solo filmmakers Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi having exited.

Eruption, which Crichton started writing before his death in 2008 and which was completed by Patterson, follows a history-making volcano explosion that is about to wipe away the big island of Hawaii. However, a secret held for decades by the U.S. military is far more terrifying than any volcano. The two blockbuster authors have combined worldwide sales of more than 700 million books.

Eruption is being produced by Sherri Crichton, Patterson, and Shane Salerno and The Story Factory.

Searching for the Ideal 4th of July Movie? Look No Further Than ‘Drop Zone’
Image
Reader, you have been lied to! Film history is littered with unfairly maligned classics, whether critics were too eager to review the making of rather than the finished product, or they suffered from underwhelming ad campaigns or general disinterest. Let’s revise our takes on some of these films from wrongheaded to the correct opinion.

When director John Badham‘s skydiving thriller “Drop Zone” was released by Paramount Pictures in December 1994, the general perception was that it was a ridiculous and disposable programmer. It did Ok at the box office (opening at number three behind Barry Levinson‘s hot-button drama “Disclosure” and the Tim Allen family hit “The Santa Clause”), but critics had their knives out for the movie’s allegedly indefensible plot holes, and the movie was largely forgotten a few weeks after it opened.

“Drop Zone,” with its story of a US Marshal (Wesley Snipes) pursuing a gang...

The Live-Action Jungle Book Remake That Everyone Forgot About
Image
Rudyard Kipling first published his novel "The Jungle Book" in 1894, and its sequel, "The Second Jungle Book," the following year. The books followed the adventures of a boy named Mowgli, a five-year-old who becomes lost in the jungles of India and who is taken in and raised by the local wildlife. He is taught the ways of the jungle, mostly by a benevolent panther named Bagheera. He also is given some more raucous advice from a bear named Baloo, and is taught to be wary of the vicious tiger, Shere Khan.

Most schoolchildren have read one or both of Kipling's "Jungle Book" novels, and it has been adapted to film multiple times. Director Zoltan Korda directed a rather fine 1946 Technicolor version, although more popular to today's audiences is the 1967 animated film directed by Wolfgang Reitherman. Walt Disney was credited as a producer, but he died shortly before "The Jungle Book" was released,...

Barry Levinson Has Steered Some Great Performances, but Directing Two Robert De Niros at Once Is Something Else
Image
Ever since he directed Robert Redford to one of his richest, most compelling performances in “The Natural,” Barry Levinson has had a knack for bringing out the best in iconic movie stars. Warren Beatty (“Bugsy”), Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, and Michael Douglas and Demi Moore (“Disclosure”), among many others, have done some of their finest work for Levinson in movies that capitalize on their strengths but provide opportunities to deepen and broaden their personas.

Even in this company, the relationship between Levinson and Robert De Niro is special. Since they first worked together on “Sleepers” in 1996, Levinson and De Niro have created a series of indelible characters, from the spin doctor of “Wag the Dog” and the beleaguered producer of “What Just Happened?” to real-life fraudster Bernie Madoff in “The Wizard of Lies.” These were all just a warm-up, however, for Levinson and De Niro’s latest collaboration “The Alto Knights...

Demi Moore's 1996 Box Office Bomb 'Striptease' is Finding New Life on Max
Image
After a heartbreaking loss to Mikey Madison (Anora) for the Best Actress Oscar, The Substance's Demi Moore's 1996 box office bomb, Striptease, is climbing the global Max top 10 chart. Released during the prime summer season, the film was supposed to be a high-profile box office hit, but ended up being a massive financial failure in North America. It is widely considered one of the worst films of all time.

Striptease was based on Carl Hiassen's 1993 novel and follows Erin Grant, who lost her FBI job after her loser ex-husband, Darrell (Robert Patrick), was arrested for drugs. And soon after, she loses custody of her daughter, Angela to said loser ex-husband. Grant becomes a stripper at the Eager Beaver strip club in Miami, Florida, to get the $15,000 needed to file an appeal for reprieve. Soon, she catches the eye of a creepy Congressman named David Dilbeck (Burt Reynolds).

Groundbreaking UFO Documentary Director Breaks Silence on Film’s Revelations
Image
The highly anticipated UFO documentary The Age of Disclosure has its world premiere at South by Southwest Film Festival on Sunday, and filmmaker Dan Farah is finally ready to talk about his years-long secretive effort to make the most credible nonfiction movie ever about the buzzy topic.

What makes The Age of Disclosure stand out among the thousands of previous UFO film and TV documentary efforts over the past several decades is that Farah only included on-record interviews with current and former senior members of the U.S. government, military and intelligence community with direct knowledge of unidentified anomalous phenomena (or UAPs). The result is a riveting look at a subject that’s being taken far more seriously in recent years as high-level officials make statements, release videos, hold hearings and take legislative action (like 2023’s bipartisan Uap Disclosure Act), which all lead to one conclusion: Something is going on.

In The Age of Disclosure,...

Demi Moore joins Tom Cruise, Eddie Murphy, and these other 1980s ‘popcorn stars’ denied at the Oscars
Image
Is there a kernel of truth to the notion that "popcorn stars" don't win Oscars? It certainly felt that way to fans hoping to see Demi Moore pull off a Best Actress victory at the 2025 Oscars. Her daring performance as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance had earned her a Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG Award, putting her in frontrunner position as she arrived at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2. But suddenly, those hopes were dashed when Emma Stone read out the winner: Mikey Madison in Anora.

It wasn't unfamiliar to see one of the biggest box-office draws from decades past lose the big one. Perhaps the Academy couldn't see past what Moore had once been told she was — a popcorn actress. She addressed the demeaning title in her Golden Globes acceptance speech nearly two months prior, stating that a producer called her a “popcorn actress” 30 years ago, which...

‘Disclosure,’ Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming Sci-Fi Film, Has Reportedly Begun Filming
Image
Steven Spielberg has started filming his next big movie, which is rumored to be called Disclosure. This time, he’s diving into a brand-new UFO story, which he wrote with David Koepp. Spielberg has always had a knack for sci-fi, and this one could be something special.

A mix of Hollywood stars has joined the project. Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Wyatt Russell, and Eve Hewson are all set to appear. It’s a strong cast, and with Spielberg behind the camera, expectations are high.

Right now, most details about the film are being kept secret. No official plot has been shared, but knowing Spielberg, we can probably expect something thrilling, emotional, and packed with surprises. He’s no stranger to aliens on the big screen, but this time, it’s an original idea, not a remake or sequel. That alone makes it interesting.

Steven Spielberg's latest movie,...

Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Steven Spielberg’s next film delayed from May to June 2026
Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Steven Spielberg’s latest film, said to include UFOs, has been pushed back from May to June 2026. The Daniels’ next movie has also been shifted.

May of 2026 was beginning to look like a problem for at least one major film release, given that in the space of a month we were due to get a Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, a Steven Spielberg film, and Avengers: Doomsday. The average person only goes to the cinema two or three times a year, so asking them to go two or three times in a month was probably a tall order.

And make no mistake, lots of ‘average people’ are going to have to show up to make these movies work – especially the two Disney behemoths that will need to pull in big numbers to continue powering the gears of each respective franchise.

The next film from The Daniels, makers of Everything, Everywhere, All At Once,...

Steven Spielberg UFO Film Release Date Moved Away From 'Avengers: Doomsday'
Image
Steven Spielberg's next film has been given a new summer release date, which puts it out of the path of Avengers: Doomsday and The Mandalorian & Grogu. Details about Spielberg's next film are being kept under wraps, with the rumored titles including The Dish and Disclosure. It is described as a UFO-related blockbuster event film, written by Jurassic Park screenwriter David Keopp based on an original idea by Spielberg. The cast includes Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada), Josh O'Connor (Challengers), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Colin Firth (The Kings Speech), Eve Hewson (Flora & Son), and Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts*).

Universal Pictures, via Variety, has confirmed that Spielberg's next movie has been pushed back to Jun. 12, 2026, instead of the originally planned May 15, 2026, date. The film takes the spot reserved initially for Everything Everywhere All at Once directors The Daniels's untitled follow-up picture, which has now been taken off the schedule.

Demi Moore movies: 13 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Back in the soap opera glory days of the 1980s, I remember well Demi Moore‘s short stint on the popular General Hospital. With her distinctive gravelly voice, movie star beauty and strong personality, it was obvious that the small screen couldn’t contain her, and that she would go on to bigger things.

Demi Gene Guynes was born on November 11 in 1962 in Roswell, New Mexico. Following a difficult childhood, she left school her junior year and did some modeling before meeting and marrying musician Freddy Moore, with whom she co-wrote three songs. She had a couple of small film roles before landing the “General Hospital” gig in 1983. Then a series of popular films beginning with Blame It On Rio in 1984 led to an impressive string of blockbuster films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, making her one of the biggest stars of the era.

Moore’s star was on the...

Demi Moore's career revival reignites Disney classic
Image
With Demi Moore getting a new dose of fame, it’s time for her role in one of Disney’s more underappreciated movies to get some respect!

If there’s one thing Hollywood loves, it’s a comeback story. 2022 was a notable example as Brendan Fraser, the one-time box office star of the late 1990s, had been quiet for a long time due to personal issues. Fraser made a big splash with his transformative role in the drama The Whale.

That same year featured the remarkable tale of Ke Huy Quan, a former child star of the 1980s who dropped out of the business because he couldn’t find good roles. He landed one in the wild action drama Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won seven Oscars, including Best Picture.

Thus, on Oscar Night 2023, Fraser and Quan were sharing photos with their respective Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards.

Sphere (1998) – Wtf Happened to This Adaptation?
Image
You guys really seem to be digging on Michael Crichton huh? Well let’s look at what almost stopped his adaptations from happening. After a heck of a run from his adaptations both good and mediocre, Sphere would be a big enough bomb that it would follow with two straight sub-par adaptations before a quiet death of his worked being put on the big screen. The movie should have been a no doubt success with stars like Dustin Hoffman, Sam Jackson, Sharon Stone and a more than capable, Oscar winning, director in Barry Levinson. What we would end up with is one of the biggest bombs of the late 90s and a movie that is derided or outright forgotten from the annals of 90s cinema. Was it the cast, the story, or the general public being over Chricton things that didn’t have dinosaurs in it that was the culprit.

Disney's Live-Action Tangled Movie May Be Eyeing The Substance's Demi Moore For Mother Gothel Role
Image
Last mast month, it was finally confirmed that Disney is officially moving forward with a live-action Tangled movie. The Greatest Showman and Better Man director Michael Gracey has been eyed to helm the project, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (I Know What You Did Last Summer) penning the screenplay.

Casting rumours continue to swirl, with Black Widow and Thunderbolts* star Florence Pugh still the supposed frontrunner to play Rapunzel. There's been no word on plans for Flynn, though the villainous Mother Gothel also appears to be a highly sought-after role.

Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn has been named as a likely possibility, as has Jennifer Lopez after the singer and actor liked several social media posts suggesting she could play the character.

Now, scooper @MyTimeToShineH is reporting (via Toonado.com) that The Substance star Demi Moore "is being considered" for this character. Following her stellar comeback role in that horror movie,...

Demi Moore Nominated for Best Actress at 2025 Oscars for 'The Substance'
Image
The time has finally come for Demi Moore, thanks to a body horror movie satire that became an unexpected awards-season favorite. The Substance proves that horror can still break through with voters known for leaning towards more prestigious fare, racking up a total of five 2025 Oscar nominations, including Moore, who earned her first-ever Oscar nod for Best Actress.

The actress, whose career spans 45 years, numerous beloved films, and several box office hits, was one of five names nominated for Best Actress this morning. The Ghost star is competing against Mikey Madison for Anora, Cynthia Erivo for Wicked, Karla Sofía Gascón for Emilia Pérez, and Fernanda Torres for I'm Still Here. While this could still very much be a wide-open race, many believe that the win comes down to Moore (who is riding the wave of a big comeback) and Madison (the young actress who is having a true A Star Is Born moment).

‘Emilia Pérez’ star Karla Sofía Gascón makes history as first trans Best Actress nominee at the Oscars
Image
Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón has made Oscar history. The titular Emilia Pérez star was just nominated for Best Actress, making her the first openly transgender performer ever nominated in the category. She stars in the musical as a Mexican drug lord who undergoes a gender transition but can’t fully escape her past.

This nomination is historic, but it didn’t come as a surprise. Beginning at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, Gascón and costars Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz were jointly named Best Actress. Emilia Pérez was then acquired by Netflix, which released it in theaters on Nov. 1 and on its streaming platform on Nov. 13.

Since then, the film has been enthusiastically embraced by awards groups. It received 10 Golden Globe nominations, the most ever for a comedy or musical, including one for Gascón. It went on to win four of those awards, including the top prize for best film.

Robert De Niro's Long-Delayed Mob Movie Drops a Gritty First Trailer That Will Have You Seeing Double
Image
Warner Bros. is finally ready for the world to see The Alto Knights. The first trailer has just dropped for the long-delayed biographical crime movie about Italian-American mob bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, both of whom will be played by Robert De Niro.

Unlike the 2015 biopic Legend, which saw Tom Hardy in the dual role of English gangster twins Reggie and Ron Kray, Genovese and Costello are not twins, nor are they related, making De Niro's casting as both somewhat of a stunt casting. Announced under the title Wise Guys, Warner Bros. had originally set a February 2024 release for the movie. However, in November 2023, the studio retitled Wise Guys to Alto Knights — the name of a popular mob club in New York City's Little Italy district and one of the haunts that Genovese often frequented with his lieutenants — and delayed the movie to November 2024. This release date stuck...

Demi Moore ‘Shocked’ by Golden Globe Win, Calls Out Producer Who Once Called Her a ‘Popcorn’ Actress: ‘That Corroded Me Over Time’
Image
Demi Moore landed the first acting award of her career — yes, career — after taking home the Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture, musical or comedy. She won for her go-for-broke performance as an aging celebrity in the body horror satire “The Substance.”

“I’m in shock right now. I’ve been doing this a long time — like, over 45 years — and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor,” Moore, 62, said from the stage at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday night. “I’m so humbled and grateful.”

Moore has been nominated for four Globes across nearly 25 years, scoring prior nods for “Ghost” in 1991 and two for the anthology series “If These Walls Could Talk” in 1997. While she’s won an ensemble award at the Independent Spirit Award for 2012’s “Margin Call,” the prize for “The Substance” is, indeed, Moore’s...

Netflix's Squid Game Season 2 Introduces The Show's First Trans Character
Image
"Squid Game" season 2 spoilers follow.

One of the things that makes the hit Netflix series "Squid Game" so compelling is the wide range of individuals who decided to sign up for the games. It's a smart way to show that the real villain — rampant late-stage capitalism — impacts almost everyone who isn't filthy rich. As far-fetched as it may seem, many of us are just one bad decision, accident, or illness away from maybe seeing something like "Squid Game" as the only way out. It's scary stuff, and having characters that represent all different walks of life really drives the point home because the audience can relate. It also helps us empathize with characters who are experiencing something unique to us; I grew to have a lot of love for season 1's Player 067, Kang Sae-byeok (HoYeon Jung), and it's hard to imagine the first season without her.

The third episode of...

The Strange Reason Michael Douglas Didn't Want Sharon Stone Anywhere Near 'Basic Instinct'
Image
Basic Instinct instantly proved to be one of the most controversial films of the 1990s, as the dark themes and extreme graphic content were virtually unheard of within a mainstream film intended for general audiences. Although the erotic thriller genre had been popular in the 1980s thanks to the success of Against All Odds and American Gigolo among others, Basic Instinct pushed the genre even further with truly shocking moments that Paul Verhoeven included in order to get an extreme reaction out of the audience. Although Michael Douglas was already a veteran of the genre thanks to his roles in Fatal Attraction and Disclosure, it was Sharon Stone who ended up benefiting most from the film due to her breakout performance. However, Douglas originally didn’t want to work with Stone in Basic Instinct, because he wanted a more established co-star.

Dear Joyce and Chris,

I really enjoy listening to your pod, and appreciate the mailbag episodes because so many listeners have questions similar to mine. Since I’m the lone cinephile in my family, it’s nice to know that others share my interest/obsession.

My question is about Amy Adams — though it could also be about Glenn Close. But I’m an Amy stan so… since Amy has six nominations and no wins, is it better for her to not be nominated in any given year when she has little chance of winning? Does just...

“Aitraaz Required Maturity Way Beyond My Years,” Said Priyanka Chopra on Aitraaz.
Image
Starring Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar, Aitraaz released in 2004. Subhash Ghai, who produced the Abbas-Mustan directedAitraaz, revealed plans to do a sequel. One doesn’t have any idea where this is going. Ghai also spoke of how reluctant Priyanka Chopra was to play the predatory vixen.

The only aspect of Abbas-Mustan’s poor remake of Barry Levinson’s Disclosure which stood out was Priyanka Chopra. As a married woman who goes all out to seduce a hunk, Priyanka killed it. It was India’s first film on male sexual harassment.

In throwback interview Priyanka said, “Aitraaz requires a maturity way beyond my years. And to make matters worse, I don’t believe in the things that my character believes in. Each day before I shoot I’ve to sit for an hour to prepare myself. It’s a very bold subject. But it isn’t like some of...

Vincent Catel Manifests a Free-Spirited Eternal Island Party in Hedonistic Music Video ‘She’s Gone, Dance On’
Image
In his music video for Disclosure’s She’s Gone, Dance On, Director Vincent Catel creates an eternal island party where the rules of time no longer apply. Visually, Catel renders this party with a distinctively over-saturated, and purposefully mesmerising aesthetic that feels like a throwback to MTV music videos of the early 00s. With heightened colours and rhythmic cinematography, he draws the viewer in, entrancing them to the hypnotic powers of the British electronic duo’s music. The video is less than four minutes in length but its seductive qualities create a strange, elongating feel that needs to be experienced. Dn speaks with Catel below about his creative collaboration with Disclosure, the plastic screensaver aesthetic he was looking to emulate with the video’s visual language, and the experience of collaborating with a choreographer for the first time to create the video’s synchronised club dance vibe.

When did...

Demi Moore: “People chose to tear me down” for a Steamy $12,500,000 Role in a Burt Reynolds Movie
Image
Demi Moore is regarded as a pioneer for equal pay for the actresses in the industry. She became the first woman to be paid the highest salary for her role in Striptease, but this came with a huge con. After completing her unconventional role the actress was condemned and shamed for her choice.

Moore mentioned in several interviews that she dealt with a great deal of hate after that movie. Though she became the first actress to break through the invisible pay gap, her efforts were in vain. The media and people at that time felt betrayed and were harsh on the actress for her supposed indecent role.

The role that made Demi Moore Public Enemy No. 1

Demi Moore was a successful model before she transitioned into the acting industry. She started her onscreen career in 1981 with the soap opera General Hospital. Later she starred in movies like Ghost (1990), A Few Good Men...

The Sci-Fi Flop Keanu Reeves Starred In Years Before The Matrix & Cyberpunk 2077
Image
In the 1990s -- back when the internet was new and smartphones didn't yet exist -- there was a healthy amount of skepticism about new technology. "Cyberspace," a term coined by sci-fi author William Gibson, was a terrifying new concept for some, and many Luddites feared it. A stationary network of millions of unknown users? And they're all tapping into the same ineffable, electric realm of information that's Not inside my personal computer? It's like someone peeled back a layer of reality and revealed a whole new dimension. Indeed, Brett Leonard's 1992 sci-fi/horror film "The Lawnmower Man" refers to the 'net in those exact terms. That film also posited that Virtual Reality would come to replace real reality.

Throughout the decade, audiences were treated to numerous paranoid cyberthrillers that alternately vaunted the possibilities of the internet while also pointing out its potential for destruction. This was the age that...

From ‘Babygirl’ to ‘Queer’ and ‘Emmanuelle,’ Erotic Movies Are Back and They’re Heating Up the Fall Festival Circuit
Image
This year’s Venice Film Festival lineup was not only the starriest in recent history, it was also the steamiest. Literally and figuratively. Aside from the brutal heatwave that plagued festivalgoers, the roster was filled with sexually charged movies, ranging from “Babygirl,” starring Nicole Kidman, to Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” with Daniel Craig. Elsewhere in the festival circuit, Audrey Diwan’s “Emmanuelle” is kicking off San Sebastian, while Alain Guiraudie’s “Misericordia,” which opened at Cannes, is playing at virtually every major fest this fall.

But like Kidman’s character in “Babygirl” who only gets triggered when something is at stake, erotic movies in 2024 aren’t created as mere entertainment as they once were; they exist to push boundaries and break down clichés revolving mainly around female and gay protagonists.

“Babygirl,” directed by Dutch helmer Halina Reijn (“Bodies Bodies Bodies”), tackles the complexity of female sexuality and the issue of...

Demi Moore Names Thriller Movie She Would Make Better Now Than 30 Years Ago
Image
Demi Moore thinks she would make Disclosure much better now than 30 years ago. Directed by Barry Levinson, based on Michael Crichton's novel of the same name, the 1994 erotic thriller follows a computer expert facing a sexual harassment lawsuit from a former lover who is now his boss and had forcefully initiated the relationship, putting both his career and personal life at risk. Michael Douglas and Demi Moore star in the lead roles alongside Donald Sutherland, Caroline Goodall, and Dennis Miller.

Appearing on Variety's series in which actors guess lines from their most famous movies, Moore said she would make Disclosure much better now compared to 30 years ago. Watch the portion of the video below, starting at the 6:30 minute mark:

Moore reflected on the challenges of taking on a film role shortly after having a baby, stepping in for Annette Benning, and feeling overwhelmed and terrified, particularly since it...

Metrograph to Honor Demi Moore’s Filmography with ‘We Want Moore’ 35mm Festival — Watch Trailer
Image
Demi Moore is getting her due thanks to Metrograph.

The “Substance” actress and Hollywood icon is being honored by Metrograph with a five-film series of Moore’s most beloved features, as curated by the theater. Titled “We Want Moore,” the mini festival begins September 13.

“The rapturous reception of Demi Moore’s performance in Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival seems to have reminded many people that the New Mexico-born actress is a bona fide movie star — not just in terms of box office receipts and magazine cover shoots, but in her seemingly effortless ability to command the screen every time she walks into frame,” the Metrograph press statement reads. “In ‘We Want Moore,’ we’ve brought together some other timely reminders.”

Selected films screening in 35mm include Moore’s iconic turns in “Ghost,” “Indecent Proposal,” and “Striptease,” which Moore recently told Variety was one of her most under-appreciated performances.

Demi Moore Reflects On Criticism Of Her Controversial 1990s Movie Roles: "It Was About Trying To Free Myself"
Image
Demi Moore reflects on her role in the film Striptease. Striptease is a 1996 dark comedy based on the Carl Hiaasen novel about a woman who is a stripper and a single mother who winds up in a dangerous situation once a congressional representative takes a liking to her. Directed by Andrew Bergman, Striptease starred Demi Moore as Erin Grant, with a supporting cast that included Burt Reynolds, Armand Assante, Ving Rhames, and Robert Patrick.

Speaking with Variety, Moore expresses her thoughts on her role in Striptease. The actor noted that "one of the biggest misconceptions about [her] is that [she] loved [her] body." Instead of taking on projects overtly to show off her body or be sexual, she took on projects "that provoke meaningful thought." She felt that Striptease was one such project, challenging audiences to look beyond simply condemning Erin's work as a dancer. She also drew comparisons with other films such...

Inside Demi Moore’s Glorious Return: How She Conquered Her Fears for a Career-Best Performance in ‘The Substance’
Image
“I’m warning you: She loves to dominate a teddy bear,” Demi Moore says as her teacup Chihuahua, Pilaf, toddles into the room. Moore, perched on a kitchen stool in her Los Angeles home, watches her dog with a sly smile. “You’re going to see some humping.”

Pilaf has had a busy year — she was featured in Vogue, and seen in the front rows of Paris Fashion Week — so bringing her to the Cannes Film Festival in May was a risk: Would the pint-size bundle of cuteness upstage her owner at the premiere of her blood-drenched horror film “The Substance”? Perhaps Moore knew the role was more beastly than her little pet could ever be.

“I didn’t know how the movie was going to go,” Moore admits as Pilaf, now in the family room, ravages her stuffed animal in a patch of sunlight. “It’s so out of the box.

‘House Of The Dragon’ Star Matt Smith Bemoans “Policing” Of Stories Through Trigger Warnings
Image
Matt Smith, star of House of the Dragon and The Crown, has doubled down on his criticism of trigger warnings.

In an interview with The Times of London, the actor, who shot to fame in Doctor Who, said that flagging potentially upsetting content was dumbing down storytelling for audiences.

“Too much policing of stories and being afraid to bring them out because a climate is a certain way is a shame. I’m not sure I’m on board with trigger warnings,” Smith said.

“It’s Ok to feel uncomfortable or provoked while looking at a painting or watching a play, but I worry everything’s being dialed and dumbed down. We’re telling audiences they’re going to be scared before they’ve watched something.”

Smith, who is starring in British horror film Starve Acre, recalled renting Slither, Basic Instinct, Disclosure, and Friday the 13th when he was “too young.

Legendary sci-fi editor Gardner Dozois' UFO book Chains of the Sea optioned for movie adaptation
Image
Gardner Dozois was one of the most influential science fiction editors in the history of the genre, first as the editor of Asimov's Science Fiction magazine, then as the mastermind behind the annual Year's Best Science Fiction anthologies. He was also a close confidante of A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin; the two worked together on numerous projects over the years, including cross-genre anthologies like Warriors. Now, Dozois' UFO novella Chains of the Sea may be getting the feature film treatment.

Studio About It Films has optioned the movie rights to Chains of the Sea, a UFO tale that plays on theories about the existence of aliens. This comes after the story has seen a new burst of popularity thanks to being embraced by the UFO Disclosure community, which sprang up in the years following the revelation in 2017 that the United States government had been running...

Elliot Page Says He’s Incredibly “Angry and Frightened” Amid Anti-lgbtq Legislation Across U.S.
Image
Elliot Page is opening up about how he feels about the anti-trans and anti-lgbtq legislation that’s popped up across the country over the last few years.

The Umbrella Academy star stopped by The View on Friday, where he discussed the Netflix show’s upcoming fourth and final season, his memoir Pageboy and fighting anti-lgbtq legislation. Co-host Ana Navarro asked him about how he feels about the legislation and his advice for anybody who wants to be an ally to the community.

Page admitted that he was “incredibly sad about it and angry and frightened,” as it continues to grow, specifically following the Republican National Convention, where several political figures shared their anti-lgbtq rhetoric thoughts on a national platform.

“I think of, for example, the trans community, and how the vast majority of people don’t know or think they don’t know a trans person. The amount of misinformation and true,...

Sony lands rights to Michael Crichton bestseller, Eruption
Michael Crichton
Following a bidding war, Sony has won the rights to Michael Crichton’s volcano disaster novel, Eruption, with Keanu Reeves rumoured to be starring.

Here’s a story that has a few intriguing elements to it. Sony has paid what is believed to be a seven figure sum to acquire the rights to Eruption, a volcano disaster movie set in Hawaii. Bidding for the project is said to have been pretty fierce, not least because the project hails (in part) from the pen of the late Michael Crichton, whose work has proven to be a goldmine over the years for film adaptations.

Jurassic Park, Twister and Disclosure are just a few of the high-profile successes that have stemmed from the author’s work. Eruption, which Crichton spent two decades years writing before his death in 2008, ‘follows a history-making volcano explosion that is about to wipe away the big island of Hawaii.
