Vince Vaughn's crime dark comedy Bad Monkey is adding an Oscar-nominated actor to its cast for season 2. Bad Monkey focuses on Vince Vaughn's Andrew Yancy, a former Miami detective turned health inspector who takes it upon himself to investigate a grisly discovery. Bad Monkey season 2 is set to begin filming this fall.
Thanks to the show's story lifted from Carl Hiaasen's novel of the same name, Bad Monkey has gotten great reviews. The series' cast is also a clear highlight, with Vaughn's performance especially lauded. Bad Monkey's cast will soon become even better now that an acclaimed actor is joining the series.

John Malkovich has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s “Prodigies.”
Malkovich will guest star in the upcoming romantic comedy series, which stars Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri as two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children. Malkovich reunites with Edebiri after the pair starred in A24’s “Opus,” where Malkovich played ’90s pop superstar Alfred Moretti and Edebiri played journalist Ariel Ecton.
In addition to Sharpe and Edebiri, Malkovich joins “Prodigies” cast members Andrene Ward-Hammond, Yumi Asō, Tobias Menzies, Rina Sawayama, Sophia Di Martino, Reece Shearsmith, Nabhaan Rizwan, Meera Syal and Lolly Adefope.
Billed as an unusual take on a classic romantic comedy, “Prodigies” follows Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe) in their early 30s as they start to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood, and, inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship,...

Long before Clint Eastwood became the legendary gunslinger of American cinema, his off-screen life was already marked by passionate turns. His private life was already filled with complex relationships, including a 14-year-long affair with stuntwoman Roxanne Tunis. It began in the early 1960s during the rocky start of his marriage to Maggie Johnson and led to the birth of their daughter in 1964, though the public has been unaware for years.
The source shared (reported on Radar Online):
Roxanne was one of Clint’s true loves. He maintained a healthy relationship with Roxanne until the end, and is devastated by the loss and for his daughter Kimber.
Eastwood also discreetly fathered two children with former flight attendant Jacelyn Reeves. Let’s take a closer look at the many women who walked through Clint Eastwood’s life.

One must be wary of the rating systems on IMDb. As one can see from the website's list of the 250 highest-rated movies (which is selected by its users), IMDb tends to favor ultra-masculine stories centering on criminals, cops, or soldiers. The top-rated film on its list is Frank Darabont's "The Shawshank Redemption," a 1994 drama about prisoners. Next is Francis Ford Coppola's mafia epic "The Godfather," followed by Christopher Nolan's superhero flick "The Dark Knight." Also hovering near the top are films like "Fight Club," "The Matrix," "12 Angry Men," "Pulp Fiction," and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." These are all excellent films, mind you, but when clustered together, they reveal something about the taste of the average IMDb user: Crime, violence, and male protagonists all seem to rule the roost. In short, the list is very basic.

In between looking after the well-being of the nation and forging strong relationships overseas, the President of the United States sometimes finds a few spare hours to catch a flick. Luckily, they don't need to catch a motorcade down to the local multiplex and queue up like the rest of us. Instead, there is a small movie theater in the East Wing of White House where the President can enjoy a movie with his family and guests. Harry Truman was a fan of "My Darling Clementine" while John F. Kennedy preferred the adventures of James Bond in "Dr. No." More recently, Bill Clinton loved "High Noon" so much that he screened the classic Western 20 times during his residency at the White House. He also had some very positive things to say about another more contemporary movie directly related to his day job: Wolfgang Petersen's "In the Line of Fire.

If you're Clint Eastwood and you're thinking of leaving the action genre after decades of being one of the most recognizable and celebrated movie heroes of all time, you better make sure you go out with a bang. Luckily, Eastwood's last action movie role has a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, in fairness, the famed actor would go on to star in movies that had their share of action, but 1993's "In the Line of Fire" felt like the last fully-fledged Clint Eastwood actioner, and it's a doozy.
After winning Best Picture and Best Director at the 1993 Oscars for "Unforgiven," Eastwood returned to the director's chair with "A Perfect World," his highly anticipated directorial follow-up to "Unforgiven" which debuted in November that same year. It's not easy to make a name for yourself in the world of film and television, especially when everyone else is trying to do the same thing. Some talent, whether they be actors, writers, or filmmakers, get lucky in their first few projects, while others won't get to see the fruits of their industry labor until much further down the line. Clint Eastwood technically made his big screen debut in 1955 in an uncredited role in "Revenge of the Creature," yet kept finding himself in bit parts over the next few years. Even "Rawhide," the television western career gig that got his foot in the door, would take up seven and a half years of his life on CBS. But not only would the experience of starring in those eight seasons serve as a testing ground as for his directorial sensibilities, it would also prompt him to travel to Spain, where...

If you feel like watching a political thriller this Independence Day, Pluto TV has you covered — and they'll even let you stream it for free. In the Line of Fire, the critically acclaimed 1993 movie starring Clint Eastwood as a Secret Service agent and John Malkovich as a would-be presidential assassin, is coming to the Fast streamer starting on July 1.
The movie was the brainchild of producer Jeff Apple (The Recruit), who was inspired by a childhood memory of seeing Lyndon Johnson surrounded by Secret Service agents. Apple commissioned writer Jeff Maguire (Escape to Victory) to pen the script, which was eventually directed by Das Boot's Wolfgang Petersen, who would tackle Presidential action again a few years later in Air Force One. The movie was one of the first to use digital effects: footage of Eastwood from the 1960s was digitized and inserted into old news footage to depict his character's early career.

It’s been two decades since Brokeback Mountain first hit our screens, breaking hearts and barriers across the global box office. But sadly, despite being such a hit and winning most best film prizes of the awards season, the film shockingly lost the Academy Award in 2006, to Crash. Well, thanks to co-writer Diana Ossana’s recent revelation, we finally have a clearer picture of when and why its Best Picture hopes slipped away.
On the film’s 20th anniversary, Diana Ossana recalled a gut-punch moment that made her realize the odds had turned. It happened at a party for Oscar nominees, when she learned Clint Eastwood hadn’t even seen Brokeback Mountain before voting ended. For Ossana, the answer was clear: homophobia. Despite packed theaters and audiences leaving in tears, Ossana realized that the film lost because of the biases that lingered beneath the surface of the industry

While the world was excited (but not surprised) when a publication claimed that Clint Eastwood was working on a new movie at the age of 95, it turns out that the news is fake. A statement from Eastwood himself says that he never gave an interview to the Austrian publication Kurier, which published the apparent interview with the veteran star.
Eastwood recently turned 95 on May 31 and released his apparently last film as director in 2024, Juror #2. The legal drama had a lot of controversy due to Warner Bros’ limited release of the movie, resulting in a less-than-stellar box office performance. The allegedly false interview claimed that Eastwood was against the current trend of sequels and remakes.

Clint Eastwood’s final pure action hero performance, In the Line of Fire (1993), is a critically acclaimed thriller that grossed approximately $187 million worldwide. In this film, Eastwood portrays Frank Horrigan, a seasoned Secret Service agent haunted by his failure to prevent President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
While Clint Eastwood went on to star in and direct many acclaimed films, In the Line of Fire was the last movie where he portrayed a traditional action hero and was involved in gunfights, chases, and one-on-one confrontations. What made In the Line of Fire stand out wasn’t just its box office success or its high-stakes narrative, but the way it captured Eastwood’s aging hero persona with sincerity and suspense.

1993 was Clint Eastwood's victory lap year. After winning the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars for "Unforgiven" in March, he would be the toast of Hollywood as he promoted two very different movies: "In the Line of Fire" and "A Perfect World." The latter was the most eagerly anticipated of the two, if only because it would mark his directorial follow-up to "Unforgiven," as well as pair him onscreen with 1990's Best Director winner Kevin Costner.
"In the Line of Fire" was not, on the surface, an odd movie. Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, the celebrated German director of "Das Boot," it was an action-thriller with an irresistible hook. Eastwood had been cast as Frank Horrigan, a long-in-the-tooth Secret Service Agent who finds himself being targeted by a psychopath who plans to kill the President of the United States. There aren’t many things that Clint Eastwood cannot do. ‘The Man with No Name’ could shoot the rope flawlessly multiple times to save Tuco. ‘Harry Callahan,’ on the other hand, once hijacked a school bus in something as stifling as a suit and tie combo. Yet, when The Bridges of Madison County premiered in 1995, few expected cinema’s ultimate tough guy to break character and become its most surprising romantic hero.
Well, Eastwood’s emotional range in the movie would do much more than just stun the critics post-release. It was a risk that paid off with a global box office of $182 million against a $22 million budget, plus an Oscar nomination for his co-star Meryl Streep. But what’s even more surprising? According to Streep, The Bridges of Madison County made Steven Spielberg weep “for 40 minutes” straight. Now, that’s no ordinary feat.

Has there ever been a more iconic big-screen presence than Clint Eastwood? I’d be hard-pressed to name one, as while others like Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, and maybe Humphrey Bogart and John Wayne – if you go old school – can compare, there’s a lot more to Eastwood than anyone else. How so? Well, while most of his contemporaries were happy just to act in their films, Eastwood became the auteur of his work, directing many of his post-The Outlaw Josey Wales vehicles. When he opted to semi-retire from screen acting, he was able to carry on as a director, and in fact, despite being well into his nineties, he’s still directing movies, with his recent Juror No 2 being a little gem.
However, when In the Line of Fire was made in 1993, Eastwood was at something of a crossroads in his career. For the thirty years prior, starting...

As a legendary Hollywood superstar, Clint Eastwood has adapted to changes in the film industry for decades. When his 1992 Western masterpiece Unforgiven won the Oscar for Best Picture, the original Man With No Name proved he could successfully transition from movie star to cinematic auteur. His 1993 thriller In the Line of Fire, however, would show Hollywood that he could rival his enduring charisma against the younger action stars of the time.

When a Hollywood actor is big and making lots of movies, it kind of feels like they'll stick around forever. There are plenty who do, but so often a familiar face will enjoy a hot streak before vanishing from the limelight. Back in the '90s we had a number of such actors. Alicia Silverstone, Meg Ryan, and Bridget Fonda all hit their peak during the decade and became household names thanks to their hits. And then they were gone, either suffering from a string of poor choices (Silverstone), taking a break from acting (Ryan), or retiring altogether (Fonda). Another Hollywood star who enjoyed her heyday in the '90s before vacating our multiplexes was Rene Russo. But why exactly did she disappear from Hollywood?

John Malkovich will be starring in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps this summer and recently opened up about why it took him this long to act in one.
In a new interview, Malkovich revealed the real reason he had not appeared in the MCU until now was due to pay.
“The reason I didn’t do them had nothing to do with any artistic considerations whatsoever,” Malkovich told GQ. “I didn’t like the deals they made, at all.”
He continued, “These films are quite grueling to make…. If you’re going to hang from a crane in front of a green screen for six months, pay me. You don’t want to pay me, it’s cool, but then I don’t want to do it, because I’d rather be onstage, or be directing a play, or doing something else.”

A White House set made for just $90,000 ultimately became one of the most ubiquitous backdrops of the 1990s…

Flight Risk has become the latest Mel Gibson-directed movie to make number one at the box office over the weekend. However, despite taking the top spot, its numbers were very humble at $12 million. For a movie that takes place in a singular location of a plane, that number might sound like a rousing success, but with a budget of $25 million, it has a bit of a way to go to recoup its expenses. In the scaled-down thriller, Mark Wahlberg would make a rare turn as a villain after his career in action movies saw him primarily saw him as the hero. Wahlberg would last play a bad guy in the 1996 thriller Fear.
According to People Magazine, Wahlberg was so determined to get this part right that he later had to apologize to his co-stars for staying in character. The star admitted, “I was locked into the part the whole time.

The 1990s were some of the best years in movie history, with some of the greatest movies of all time coming out in that decade. Iconic directors like Quentin Tarantino, John Singleton, the Wachowskis, Paul Thomas Anderson, Sofia Coppola, and even Wes Anderson made their directorial debuts in the 90s. Films like The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, Toy Story, and Heat all came out in that decade, proving just how incredibly strong it was.
These are just a handful of the films that people instantly recognize and love, with countless more that can be added to the list. It's worth not forgetting the incredible ones that seem to have left the public consciousness, as the 1990s provided some of the greatest movies and movie references that no one seems to talk about anymore. Clint Eastwood has technically been one of the most in-demand movie stars of the last 60 years -- "technically" because, throughout that long time span, he slowly ceased working with other directors. Starting in 1980, Eastwood almost exclusively made movies through his Malpaso Company shingle at Warner Bros., and that tendency functioned like a flashing "do not inquire" sign. Obviously, if filmmakers had any sense that Eastwood was on the market as an actor, a considerable number would've at least passed along a screenplay to gauge interest. But he seemed content to generate his own material and direct it himself.
It's intriguing to consider who would've had the best shot at getting Eastwood to take a break from the Malpaso ranch (I bet Tony Scott could've nabbed him in the 1990s), but the better question is who would Eastwood have worked with if he felt like being directed for a change. The...

The world of politics has long served as the basis for some of Hollywood's best films, from All the President's Men to JFK. Whether based on true stories of fictional events, these films can offer audiences a window into the world of government, tackling topics like corruption and war. Typically focusing on politicians, government agents and reporters, these films show how even the smallest of characters can make a big difference and challenge the highest rungs of power.
Political thrillers can cover anything from presidential assassinations to investigations into scandals, exploring the best and worst of government. The world of politics is practically defined by conflict, so making a thriller out of the genre often comes naturally, and appeals to fans of all ideologies. Ranging from conspiracies to the true stories behind key events in world history, these movies remain some of the most compelling of the genre.

On Sunday, October 27, 2024, Clint Eastwood will premiere his fortieth feature directorial effort, "Juror #2," at the American Film Institute Festival. This feels like a landmark number. It's certainly a landmark achievement, given that Eastwood is 94 years old, an age at which most people are interred. So it's frankly despicable that Warner Bros-Discovery, headed by noted enemy of cinema David Zaslav, has chosen to unceremoniously dump "Juror #2" on 50 screens over its opening weekend, with no plans for expansion or an awards campaign.
While it's possible the film is not, in the eyes of its studio, an awards contender, it has a commercially viable hook (as evidenced by its compelling trailer) and a killer cast headed up by Nicholas Hoult. Moreover, it's a film by Clint Eastwood, a man whose films have earned WB loads of money over the last 50-plus years. He's had an office on the lot for nearly as long,...

There are three movies that Clint Eastwood considers to be his biggest career risks, but only one paid off at the box office. Despite the stardom Eastwood achieved as the "Man with No Name" in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy, it still took a few years for him to break through in America. The movie that truly cemented him was Dirty Harry, a controversial 1971 thriller that nonetheless was a gigantic success, and led to one of the few Clint Eastwood movie franchises.
Eastwood's screen persona quickly became that of the stoic man of action who said little - but always had a dry quip ready when required. From the 1970s through to the 1990s, most of his biggest hits came in the thriller or action genres, from The Gauntlet right on down to In the Line of Fire. Since his rise to stardom in the 1960s, Clint Eastwood has been one of the most successful actors -- and directors -- in Hollywood, thanks to movies like A Fistful of Dollars and Unforgiven. While best associated with the Western genre, the icon has played a variety of roles across almost every genre, from comedy and action to thriller and musical. Although some of his characters were forgettable, others are among the most interesting and compelling of their respective genres.
Clint Eastwood has been seen by many of his fans, as well as the film industry overall, as a symbol of American masculinity, adopting a variety of rugged and gruff personas. From gunfighters and detectives to soldiers and criminals, the actor has headlined some of the best movies of all time. Some of these characters are notably better written and more entertaining than others, with some representing the tone of his overall career.

The best Clint Eastwood movies showcase why he is considered one of the most prolific and successful actors in film history. Now a 93-year-old filmmaker, Eastwood has been focusing on directing and is renowned for the speed at which he's developing new movies at this stage of his life. While Clint Eastwood has directed some great films dating back to the 1970s, he's best known for his acting roles, rising to fame in the 1960s as a charismatic, tough leading man in movies like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and later the Dirty Harry series.
Eastwood's acting is recognized for being synonymous with the Western genre, or more specifically, the Spaghetti Western and revisionist Western subgenres. Sergio Leone's Man with No Name trilogy is iconic, and Eastwood continued to develop the genre with films like The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven, which he directed and starred in.

It is borderline impossible to define the six-decade-long artistic legacy that Clint Eastwood had painstakingly mapped, as his stacked filmography includes everything from certified classics to overlooked gems. Of course, no artist can have an impeccably perfect run, but some, like Eastwood, inch very close to that ideal by re-defining entire genres that will always have a place in cinematic history. Not every good film that Eastwood helmed or starred in made a ton of money at the box office, but artistic success cannot be solely measured via such narrow metrics, as his name is embedded into the public consciousness, for better or worse.
It is tempting to dissect Eastwood's artistry purely through the Western genre — works like "A Fistful of Dollars" or "The Outlaw Josey Wales" capture his contributions succinctly — but there is much more to him than a drawling accent or laidback gunslinging. The actor has often been...

Terry Matalas will direct a remake of the 1985 sci-fi Enemy Mine, which marooned a warring human and alien on an unoccupied planet.
It was a good year as far science fiction, 1985. There was Back To The Future of course, but also Weird Science, Explorers, Brazil and Enemy Mine. The latter film starred Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr, and was about a human space traveller (Quaid) who crash lands on a seemingly deserted planet along with a scaly alien. The twist is that the human and alien species are at war with each other, and the pair have to put their differences aside in order to survive.
Enemy Mine may not be quite as widely remembered as its 1985 contemporaries in the sci-fi genre, but its impact certainly lingered with those who saw it. Wolfgang Peterson directed the movie and Enemy Mine built up something of a cult following in the years after its release.

Hey, do you remember "Poseidon"? The 2006 action pic from director Wolfgang Petersen is a remake of the 1972 disaster epic "The Poseidon Adventure," as well as an adaptation of Paul Gallico's 1969 "The Poseidon Adventure" novel. The story focuses on a cruise ship that gets hit by a tidal wave and flips upside down. The survivors have to then claw their way to the bottom of the ship, which is now the top. Lots of characters die horribly along the way. It's fun for the whole family!
The star-studded remake cast includes Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Richard Dreyfuss, and the late, great Andre Braugher. Russell is probably the biggest name of the bunch, and the actor plays Robert Ramsey, a character who is both an ex-firefighter and the former Mayor of New York City. His history allows him to sort of take command of the situation, although he's really mostly concerned...
