Veeps, the live-streaming platform co-founded by Joel and Benji Madden and owned by Live Nation, has expanded its business to include narrative films, with the indie motherhood dramedy “Nora” among the first available titles.

Following a theatrical release by Suncatcher Productions and Blonde Dog Productions, “Nora” will make its global streaming debut via Veeps on Saturday, May 24.

The feature film — written, directed by and starring Anna Campbell — follows Nora, a singer-songwriter who gives up her music career and settles in suburbia to raise her child. But, as the film’s logline explains, “her dreams have other plans” — meaning that, as Nora contends with a precocious child, a new home and navigating the PTA moms, her musical aspirations live on through whimsical music video fantasies that capture her truth.

Airborne, a new four-part wildlife documentary that delves into the extraordinary lives of animals that fly, glide, or leap, will be narrated by award-nominated actress Keeley Hawes. Humble Bee Films’ Love Nature and Sky Nature series will premiere on December 22 in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Italy, followed by a global release.

The hour-long episodes provide a comprehensive look at the many adaptations of airborne species. From condors’ soaring flights to lemurs’ acrobatic leaps, the program also features gliding squirrels and orchid bees with delicate movements. House was a fantastic show that managed to remain interesting despite its formulaic case-of-the-week structure, yet it could have been even better with one small change. Hugh Lauries Gregory House is among the greatest characters in television history and could make any House episode interesting on his own regardless of the case they were working on. Houses character was fun to watch for more than just one reason, including but not limited to how great he was at his job despite being very difficult to work with.

House ran a diagnosis department and usually only worked on one case every week, meaning only the most difficult yet fascinating patients would get to him. The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan is adapting Stephen King’s short story The Life of Chuck, with Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill attached to lead the movie.

Per Deadline, Hiddleston will portray the titular role of Charles Krantz, whose life story will be told in three separate parts. Meanwhile, Hamill has been enlisted to play a character named Albie, which serves as his latest venture into horror after starring in the 1995 adaptation of Village of the Damned and 2012’s independent British film Airborne. The Star Wars vet also had an uncredited cameo appearance in 1992’s Sleepwalkers, which was King’s first time writing a screenplay not adapted from one of his existing novels.

New works from filmmakers including Chang Tso-chi, Huang Ji, Pierre Sarraf, Tan Chui Mui and Jessey Tsang are among the 21 projects selected for the Work-in-Progress section (Wip) of this year’s Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf).

The Wip projects will be presented online alongside the main programme of Haf (March 15-17) and Hong Kong Filmart (March 15-18). Most are at the post-production stage, with several currently in production. The line-up includes 10 documentaries and 11 fiction films, mostly from Asia, with several European productions and co-productions.

The Australian International Documentary Conference (Aidc) has revealed the 15 teams that will take part in its international pitching showcase, The FACTory.

Now in its sixth year, the annual event for new documentary and factual projects will be held online, giving selected participants the opportunity to present their work in front of the largest contingent of international decision-makers to participate in Aidc, including funders, buyers, broadcasters, sales agents, and distributors.

Shortlisted teams for The FACTory will pitch across three strands: Central Showcase, New Talent Showcase and Rough Cut Showcase.

Alice Burgin, Aidc CEO and conference director, said the 15 projects selected for 2021 were “exceptionally strong and exciting”.

“Our aim is to help these teams make valuable connections with our international decision-makers and take the first or second step towards making these ambitious factual productions,” she said.

Exclusive: Brent Montgomery’s Wheelhouse Group has acquired a majority stake in Campfire, the production company set up by Ross Dinerstein and responsible for projects including Netflix’s John Grisham doc series The Innocent Man.

The deal is the latest acquisition for Montgomery’s firm, which last month bought a majority stake in Den of Thieves, the production company behind Netflix’s Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour special.

Campfire recently scored a docuseries about suicide cult Heaven’s Gate for HBO Max and CNN and is behind critically acclaimed food documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi as well as upcoming FX documentaries The Most Dangerous Animal of All and Women In Comedy. Rising star Sofia Boutella from Climax and The Mummy and Ed Skrein have joined Nicolas Cage in Xyz Films’ Afm worldwide sales title Prisoners Of The Ghostland.

Bill Moseley has come on board the English-language debut by Japanese auteur Sion Sono, which will also star Japan’s Young Dais and Tak Sakaguchi.

Exclusive: Xyz Films has taken on international rights to Zak Hilditch’s thriller Airborne, which will star Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch) as a flight attendant who faces a mid-flight pandemic.

When the deadly disease spreads throughout the plane, she must contain the infected passengers and against unlikely odds land the aircraft safely.

Ross Dinerstein of Campfire will produce with Liz Kearney. The project will be taking off at Afm for Xyz, with Endeavor Content looking to land the domestic sale.

Director Hilditch credits include These Final Hours, which played at Cannes in 2014, and two Netflix movies: an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1922, which debuted on the platform in 2017, and mystery horror Rattlesnake, which was released online last month.

Fans of "School of Rock" are probably unaware that Jack Black has re-teamed with the hit family film's director Richard Linklater for another bizarre character comedy. However, this time around, their collaboration is a very different affair: the indie dark comedy "Bernie." The grimly funny tale is based on the true story of Bernie Tiede, a beloved community figure in the small town of Carthage, Texas, who in 1996, confessed to murdering the wealthy and elderly Marjorie Nugent. Bernie's close friendship with the widowed Nugent was a well-documented dysfunctional relationship, and when the crime occurred, it irrevocably changed the tiny Texas community. To bring the story of Bernie to life, Jack Black delivers one of the better performances of his career, making Tiede a unique and sympathetic character, full of bombastic Southern personality. Moviefone sat down with Black to talk about his experiences working on the movie and interacting with the real Bernie Tiede.

Tonight is the season finale of "House" which is a show that I have a troubled relationship with. The first couple seasons I was completely on board and then it became increasingly obvious that rather that the writers had absolutely no intention of having the House character grow or suffer any real consequences for his actions. There was that awful story line with the cop who had it in for him (Tritter?) but that more punished the people around him and rather than abandoning his selfish, destructive ass to the real world, they just gathered the wagons around him tighter. After that I watched less and less as his actions became less and less defensible. I'll drop in for an episode every now or again but more often than not just find myself staring at my TV going "Really?" I'll be tuning in tonight but I doubt I'll find my opinion changed much.

Then, a generic young pretty boy from California is forced to move in with his relatives in Cincinnati and prove himself to the locals by taking part in an epic downhill inline skate race in the 1993 teen comedy Airborne, featuring Seth Green and Jack Black.

And finally, Corey Haim and Patricia Arquette team up to take down a gang of rollerblading, drug dealing, white supremacists in the distopian cyber-punk action-drama Prayer of the Rollerboys from 1990.

You know that warm, glowing feeling you get when you meet someone who likes the things you like? "You enjoy 'The Wire,' you say? Me too! I was also struck by the compelling layers, the natural performances and the ultimate pay-off of each season. David Simon is truly a genius, a modern day Dickens." It's a nice feeling in this cold, harsh world. But doesn't that warm glow turn to a fiery hot jolt of joy when that shared love is for something truly awful and dumb? As I trundle along life's highways and byways, I find that the people I meet who love the following films earn my immediate and undying (until they kill it) affection. These are people who, like me, filled their ill-spent youth with TBS (my first love), TNT's "Monstervision" (Joe Bob Briggs, call me!) and USA's "Up All Night" (ultimately, too porny for my little eyes). Ah,...

I went through a devastating earthquake break-up between my first and second years of graduate school. One of those "I'm going to be alone forever, no one will ever love me, my life is over, I wish she would die in a tire fire" breakups that Alanis Morrissette based the good part of her music career on. My friends were there for me, and one drove me from Philly to Boston to spend Labor Day weekend. We were both movie buffs, and so we decided to walk up to the Landmark near M.I.T. to go see The Brown Bunny. For those of you who only know it as "Vincent Gallo Videotapes Chloe Sevigny Blowing Him," the rest of the film is basically about a guy falling apart and weeping and painfully struggling with the loss of his girlfriend who he thought had cheated on him. Not exactly the remedy for a broken heart.

Gloucester - The night Sebastian Junger arrived in town, it was a rather mild and cloudless day. There would be need to use the phrase “The Perfect Storm” to hype the writer’s talk and signing at Raleigh’s Quail Ridge Books. It was The Perfect Mild.

This appears to be a rarity in today’s journalism. Anything that happens now gets blamed on “A Perfect Storm” of calamities after Junger’s book about the doomed fishermen. Wall Street meltdown, Bp well disaster and McRib are all given The Perfect Storm treatment. Sadly enough, he does not get a nickel every time it’s said on TV.
