I watched this show growing up and missed on a lot of the humour. Now, in my mid thirties this show is purely genius.
I am eleven years old. This may seem to young an age to understand The Nanny, but ever since the reruns came on television, I became hopelessly addicted to it. The Nanny is a show that is funny, romantic and very surprising. Where else can you find crazy Jewish humour? Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a mid thirty year old woman who is fired from her job and dumped by her boyfriend. Her troubles take her to the doorstep of Maxwell Sheffield. The rest as we say, is history.
Charles Shaughnessy is Maxwell Sheffield. A widowed man with three children. He is not sure of Fran first but eventually she grows on him.
Other outstanding performances from Daniel Davis and Lauren Lane.

I am not usually a fan of most sitcoms. I just don't find them funny. The Nanny however had just the right mix of funny and heartwarming to make the show worthwhile. That being said it is also straight out of the 90s which means a lot of the situations and jokes might not work for people watching it for the first time today. Fran Drecher's character's obsessed with marriage may not fit in with today's sensibilities. Also the snarky comment by the butler Niles to his bosses/friends female business associate might strike some as misogynistic but the strange relationship between Niles and CC is one of the most fluid relationships of the series. Also the children actors acting ability is not always top notch but it is hardly horrible either.
The Nanny is definitely a show built for the 90s but if you like a fun comedy that doesn't overstay it's welcome you should give this a try.

Fran Dresher is a very nice person and a very funny and talented actress, she made us laugh for six years and I think she should stay with us for much time. Everything about the show is great, the cast is very talented, the story-lines are never repetitive and always funny, they left us in 1999 and after six years of the beginning it was still a hit. Maybe it's for the best, because we'll always have good memories of the show, they didn't wait until people became tired of it.
It is 2019. Just watched an episode of it and laughed and laughed and laughed. Some of the comedy of past years does not hold up i.e. welcome back Kotter. I think what makes the show go over so well is the amazing performance by Fran Drescher. She is so hilarious. The kids are really good and the banter between Niles and CJ is priceless. Give it another shot it's pretty good

- TriviaWhen the show was broadcast in the U.K., many viewers wrote in to chide Charles Shaughnessy over his "imitation" English accent, and suggested he practice with co-star Daniel Davis on how to do a proper English accent. The cast found this quite amusing, as Shaughnessy is a native Englishman, born in London while Davis is an American, born in Arkansas. In a nod to this funny situation, an episode in the final season, has Niles appearing in Grace's (Madeline Zima's) school play of Cleopatra, where he receives bad reviews, one of which, is how his English accent sounds fake.
- ErroresMaxwell's age is inconsistent - for several years it remains at 42 yet in the 3rd season goes to 41.
