The True Story Behind Up's Villain: A Real-Life Person Who Stole From Walt Disney
Image
The main antagonist in Disney/Pixar's Up is based on a real-life person who stole from Walt Disney, adding a layer of intrigue and real-world inspiration to the film. Up remains a beloved Disney/Pixar film due to the heartfelt passion and thought put into its creation by writer and director Pete Doctor, known for other animated classics like Monsters, Inc., Inside Out, and Soul. A sequel to Up, titled Carl's Date, has been brought to life as a short film in 2023, featuring the return of Edward Asner as the protagonist Carl Fredricksen, with a runtime of just 8 minutes.

The main antagonist in Disney/Pixar's Up is based on a real-life person who stole from Walt Disney. Even nearly fifteen years after its release, Up remains one of the most celebrated and sentimental Disney/Pixar films primarily because of the passion and thought that went into its creation. The...

In the second instalment with Liv Ullmann we discussed her 1973 Best Actress in a Leading Role Academy Award nomination for her performance in Jan Troell’s The Emigrants; writer Tove Ditlevsen; being 13 and also very grown up at the same time; Some Like it Hot on Broadway, starring Christian Borle and J Harrison Ghee and Billy Wilder’s film with Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, directing Faithless, screenplay by Ingmar Bergman (starring Lena Endre and Erland Josephson) and forgiving yourself, and being nervous with Laurence Olivier when they starred in A Bridge Too Far, directed by Richard Attenborough.

Close-Up on Alejo Moguillansky's "The Little Match Girl"
Close-Up is a feature that spotlights films now playing on Mubi. Alejo Moguillansky's The Little Match Girl (2017) is showing December 17 – January 15, 2019 exclusively on Mubi.In theater anything is possible. There are no set rules, and just one perquisite: Genius. Perhaps that is why Chekhov had such immense tenderness for actors, knowing how easy it was to fall into the infinite gap between expectations and reality, ideal and circumstance. Chekhov, of course, wrote about the provinces, which furnished him a rich cast of secondary characters. Now Argentine filmmaker Alejo Moguillansky mines similar material in his latest feature, The Little Match Girl. Moguillansky’s film takes place in Buenos Aires, but do not be fooled. It is not the vainglorious megalopolis we associate with its 19th century splendor, but rather an increasingly battered, economically stretched, exhausted city that in its myriad deceptions shares an existential funk with the Chekhovian social landscape.

"The Golden Girls" Rue McClanahan
'Golden Girl' Rue McClanahan dies
"The Golden Girls" Rue McClanahan
Rue McClanahan, the veteran actress who won an Emmy for playing the saucy Southern belle Blanche Devereaux on "The Golden Girls," died early Thursday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital of a stroke. She was 76.

She had undergone treatment for breast cancer in 1997 and later lectured to cancer support groups on "aging gracefully." She had heart bypass surgery last year.

"Golden Girls" ran from 1985-92 on NBC and was a hit from the beginning, starting off at No. 1 in the Nielsens. The foursome -- which also included Bea Arthur, Betty White and Estelle Getty -- delighted audiences.

McClanahan earned four Emmy noms for "Golden Girls," winning in 1987. She also was nominated for three Golden Globes for her performance as the sex-crazed Blanche.

She also played Blanche in three other series: one episode each of "Nurses" and "Empty Nest" -- both of which preceded "Golden Girls" -- and as a regular on "The Golden Palace,...
