Bushfire Moon

This is a very good Christmas film that is sweet and funny, but avoids the sappy-ness of many family films. The story concerns a poor family in Austraila whose farm is threatened by a drought. The father worries that he won't have presents to give to his young son. The film has some great parts and the hilarious pig roast scene (remember, Christmas down under is in summer), would make the whole film worthwhile if it wasn't good already. The case of mistaken identity is very amusing and touching, and the landscapes are impressive. Some people may have actually seen this film without realizing it. It was also released in the US under the name "The Christmas Visitor" and in Austraila as "Bushfire Moon"--not sure on that last title. The film is really a change from all the clichéd, typical films seen in the US. I urge people to view this if they are sick of the same old Christmas fare.

Even after more than three decades, Bushfire Moon is among my all-time favourite films....still !! It is THAT good...

At the time, movies were available for rental as VHS tapes. Who would imagine - when I picked up "Bushfire Moon" from the shelf - that this family.saga would imprint itself in my heart...forever ?

This is a rare movie, a hidden gem that many viewers have never even heard of, let alone watched. I have been one of those lucky enough to have stumbled on this uplifting Christmas tale about an Australian family down on its luck, facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Furthermore, the concept of a WHITE Christmas in ;Australia is virtually impossible, unless you are on a very lofty mountain!! Now why is that ?

Somehow "Bushfire Moon" finds its way on YouTube - now and then - and if You ever locate it there, you might decide to check it out yourself, without renting it online or purchasing the DVD.

Aside from learning one or two good lessons about Life, You would learn what "Bushfire Moon" means, from the mouth of one of the characters...

It's such a timeless classic and heartwarming, that if I were Santa Claus, I would include a copy with EVERY Christmas present I delivered.
