funny and warm hearted movie

I saw this French version with English subtitles. It's so hilarious from the start to end. When three bachelors get a baby girl, first they hesitate about how to live with the baby. Then they start loving her.

There is a subplot of smuggling thrown into it. Nevertheless, the movie falls into a comedy genre.

Well, what can i say, it has to be seen to feel the essence of the movie. Even though, it's in french, i could understand the 99 percent of the movie.

The highlight of the movie is the baby. Her little expressions and movements are the central point of the movie. She makes you feel that absolute innocence. That is where the film succeeds.

Well made

I saw the American version of this movie a long time ago, but as I remember it, I prefer this original French version.

The acting is good, especially Roland Giraud. The first half of the movie is simply hilarious. It's even better when you know french, because some of the fun always get lost during translation.

Still good today.

Out of 100, I gave it 77. That's **½ on a **** stars rating system.

Seen at home in Welland. June 23th, 2001. Marko Roy.

3 Men & A Baby filmed as it should have been!

A baby is left on the doorstep by its mother, three sceptical men grow to love the infant, but which is the real father?

A gentle touching comedy, quieter than the American version. Worth a viewing, although because of the language barrier if for no other reason, this film will be deprived a truly mass audience.

wonderful and endearing

The 3 men's lives in this story have no real meaning or depth.

They seem to be living the ideal care-free life from a man's point of view. The baby will reveal their emptiness, and fill their lives in a way they never dreamed possible. Hats off to Coline Serreau for this fine film. I saw it when it first came out and it has aged well. Upon viewing it now that I have become a father of six,I have to say it seems better then ever to me ! I now understand it on a very different level, one can easily say it is a critique of our modern western "bourgeois" societies that have become allergic to children, especially babies. And it does so without sacrificing it's excellent humour. Note: This is a french movie,in order to really savor it to the full you must ideally understand french culture, and see it in french. From this perspective this genuinely funny comedy is worth a solid 10.

Worth seeing--even if it does indulge in a bit of schmaltz and ennui.

Could have been better

The movie has aged. It was funnier when it came out in 1985.

Michel Boujenah and especially Roland Giraud were very entertaining.

Unfortunately, Andre Dussollier's acting was a total disappointment. The entire time I watched the movie, I kept telling myself how horrible his acting was.

Overall, the story does not make a lot of sense (mother abandoning baby at the door step, Jacques' mother refusing to care for her grandchild, Air France's stewart dealing heroine, but returning from Thailand with no drugs in his possession, etc.) but most viewers will look past this nonsense and enjoy the movie for what it is.

love it from the start - or don't get children

First, this movie is a beautiful example why there's am more European kind of humour and a more American kind of it. I once read an American critic who honestly complained that all the funny things happening in this movie were so previsible. Wow, he even must have thought that was smart to realize. In fact, that's what this movie is all about: You know what's going to happen and you enjoy to see HOW it will happen. That's why this movie was remade in the US with Tom Selleck and stripped of all it's original charme, only to be found "better" by some people. Second, this movie is kind of a test whether you should become a dad/mum in your life - or better leave that to others. It worked with me ..two kids... If you vote this movie "9" or above, you should get kids. Below "5" ? Think again! ;-)

Remembering Honeymoon

I was in my first wedding anniversary when we decided to watch this movie and remember our honeymoon in Paris. The french atmosphere is perfect, and the actors very good. The way of acting is different from the american way.

The movie is almost happened in the interior of an apartment. Very intimate. The same directrix was invited to direct the american remake. It wasn't the same as the original.
