Doc Harris, most famous among anime fans for his work on Dragon Ball Z as the narrator for the series' first English dub, has passed away at age 76.

Via Broadcast Dialogue, popular voice actor and radio personality Doc Harris passed away on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, following a reported minor surgery last month. Harris was known to many as a popular Canadian broadcaster, while older anime fans will know him as the narrator of Ocean Productions' English dubbed version of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, including multiple of its movies.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the short-lived animated series “Gravedale High” (aka “Rick Moranis in Gravedale High“), which aired on NBC in 1990.

During the era of Saturday Morning Cartoons, there was always this idea by studios to build on a big star’s name by giving them an animated vehicle. We saw it with Mr. T, Chuck Norris, Macaulay Culkin, and Gary Coleman, as well as comedians like Louie Anderson and Howie Mandel. John Candy got (the still celebrated) “Camp Candy,” while his Sctv colleague Rick Moranis headlined his own animated horror comedy series for kids: “Gravedale High.”

On the 26th anniversary of the day we lost John Candy, the legendary actor's two children paid tribute to their late father with touching tribute messages on Twitter. Candy's daughter, Jennifer Candy, has followed in her father's footsteps by working in movies and television as an actress and entertainer. This began with providing voiceover work as a child actress for her father's cartoon series, Camp Candy, followed by appearances on other shows in the following years like Mad TV and According to Jim. Jennifer also appeared in the 2019 movie In Vino and co-produced the TV shows Cockpit and Prom Queen.
