Much better film than story

A very well done film on a XIX century novel. All actors perform very well (it is the very first work by Fernanda Torres in cinema!), and cinematography, costumes and sets are wonderful. Indeed, if the film is not better, it is due the limits of Romanticism itself. At some point, that superficial drama between fast lovers is a little boring. I have not read the original novel by Taunay, but it supposedly portrays Cirino, the man in love, as a tragic good-hearted hero, and the mute dwarf slave Tico as his nemesis. As a matter of fact, the movie still idealizes somewhat that "love" that is simply physicall atraction by a mature man directed to a naive young maid who is easily seduced by him. However, it puts that in a much more interesting way, as Cirino is a schemer and liar, and the most important not phisical trait of Tico is certainly loyalty, as he just protects the maid just as he was asked to. Therefore, as a film Imperial age in Brazil, it deviates from open racism so widespread when the book was written. Worth to be watched.

Enlighted adaptation of a smashing novel of Inocência and her forbidden romance at Brazil colonial!!

In this literary adaptation to big screen of the Viscount of Taunay's Inocência famous novel produced by well acknowledge Barreto's family that left a strong and solid trail at Brazilian cinema industry with more that seventy productions, quite successful if they had dealing with bound in the troublesome and complex Brazilian system struck in many issues.

The story barely summarized in 19th century took place at Minas Gerais countryside in Brazil colonial where still had an imperator, over an impossible romance between a wanderer Dr. Cirino (Edson Celulari) and Inonência (Fernanda Torres) only single daughter of the coarse farmer Martinho (Sebastião Vasconcelos) who already had pledge Inocência to young farmer called Manecão (Ricardo Zambelli) soon she got enough age or so, when Dr. Cirini has been healing her of some recurrent fever, meanwhile rises a mutual attraction among them.

In the same time arrives there a wetted German researcher of butterflies Dr. Meyer (Rainer Rudolfh) looking for shelter and carry on his seek for undiscovered ones, the bumpkin and the wary Martinho keep on eye on all moves of the foreigner guest Dr. Meyer due him spoke freely some European adjectives to your daughter, meanwhile on the sly of night Cirino and Inocência dating over the moonlight, all this with extreme regard, any sexual relation has been made whatsoever, nonetheless run away is out of matter over Inocência's look, due she had too much concern over his father, then she suggests that Cirino looking for her old godfather Cesário (Fernando Torres) that only him can move his father of the wrong promise.

It's too underrated at my humble vision, after I have been watched 11.726 pictures gave me enough feelings to ensure that such offering was beautifully produced and the whole drama is quite accurate due I'd lived in such environment in my childhood in a small village also is hardly religious oriented on behavior of the all characters because in such time the church had a powerful hold in all South America as the whole world as well!!

Thanks for reading.
