Second of three films in a row for writer/director Francis Veber to co-star Pierre Richard and Gérard Depardieu, after Más locos que una cabra (1981) and before Les fugitifs (1986).
Writer/Director Francis Veber and co-stars Pierre Richard and Gérard Depardieu reunited three years later for Les fugitifs (1986), in which Richard and Depardieu again play characters named respectively François Pignon and Jean Lucas. Despite this, they are not meant to be the same characters and the films are unrelated.
Remade in the U.S. in 1997 as FATHER'S DAY, which starred the late Robin Williams and Billy Crystal as the two (potential) dads.
