Hakkari'de Bir Mevsim

As a western viewing this movie I enjoyed it immensily. Being a foreigner i Turkiey, but knowing a tiny bit about its costumes and recent history, I was amazed by this depiction of a village lost in the interior of Turkey, close to the border with Syria. It shows the habits of the Kurdish population, and how a teacher that comes from a big city like Istanbul faces a culture shock. Above all, I think this movie is very beautiful, shows a reality we rarely seen, the lifes and struggles of the misfits the humbleness of poor people but also how they are humans. A great piece of history and culture.

An outstanding movie filled with hidden signs, filmed in 1983 during a politically turbulent period in Turkey. The film navigates the constraints of the time, particularly regarding the Kurdish issue and language, which faced an absolute ban. To evade state censorship, many Kurdish dialogues are whispered, an innovative approach. The colors and landscapes vividly depict Kurdish life. Genco Arkal excels in his role, and the cinematography is exceptional. Even if you don't grasp all the nuances, the compelling scenes and details will keep you engaged until the end. This film is a remarkable blend of artistry and subtlety. It stands as a testament to the resilience and creativity of filmmakers under oppression.
