The brothers tried to emulate their late 60s show here and it was evident that their time had gone. Variety shows in general were waning (Carol Burnett would end her show 2 years later - it's ratings were dropping as well). In fact, the CBS, late-60s SB show's ratings had been slipping before they were fired (the show had actually been re-uped for another season despite all the controversy and declining ratings)
Just proves the old addage: you can never go back.
