The reason for a picture of a spider added to the grouping of the Ancient Chinese Five Poisonous Creatures on the front of the cover sleeve of the Celestial Pictures DVD release is unclear. Many people believe that the spider was added to the cover sleeve's art by mistake, but some people will also debate that the spider represents Sheng Chiang's character Yang Tieh (the sixth and last pupil). Though Yang Tieh is only referred to as a "Hybrid Venom" in the film, it is suggested that the spider represents Yang Tieh because a spider also possesses abilities from every Venom animal that is represented in the film, just as Yang Tieh possesses similar physical skills from each Venom in the film (i.e.; fast, multiple limbs = the Centipede, strong legs = the Scorpion, venomous fangs and crushing grip = the Snake, strong body = the Toad and ability to stick to walls = the Gecko or the Lizard). Coincidentally, in December 2006, Celestial Pictures announced that they would be remaking several Shaw Brothers films for the silver screen and that the first film confirmed to be remade was Five Deadly Venoms. Celestial Pictures also revealed that a new Venom for the remake would be a spider.

The five kung fu styles in this film center around the Poison Clan. They are each named after the Ancient Chinese Five Poisonous Creatures.

The Centipede style is based on speed. The stylist moves extremely fast and is, therefore, extremely difficult to defend against.

The Snake style is based on agility and flexibility. The arms move together like the head and tail of the snake. The stylist's flexibility allows for excellent defense and accurate use of precise attacks against vulnerable points on an opponent's body.

The Scorpion style, as the Teacher says, resembles the scorpion's pincers - but this applies only to the stylist's little-used hand techniques. The stylist's main attack is the use of acrobatic kicks - the "stinger" of the scorpion.

The Gecko/Lizard style is nimble with quick footwork and use of both hand and kicking techniques. The stylist is also able to run up walls and even stand on them, his feet holding on to the wall as easily as if he were standing on the floor. In this sense, he is almost like Spider-Man if the latter was a master of martial arts.

The Toad style is based on power and resilience. When mastered, the stylist's entire body becomes immune to physical harm. This, and seemingly tireless endurance, makes the stylist (in the Teacher's words) nearly invincible.
