Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams is back and ready for whatever Nevermore Academy and Jericho, Vermont, throw at her in Season 2, Part 1 of which is now streaming on Netflix.
The first four episodes involve the pigtailed psychic student reacclimating to life at the school for Outcasts, which has seen a change in leadership after the death of Principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie). Now Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi) has to step up and fill her shoes, and he has a different tactic for running Nevermore. Dort has a memorable scene set to Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark,” and that is just the beginning of classic needle drops that accompany both horrific and hilarious moments in the show like those of Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) in Episode 4.

At San Diego Comic-Con this July, whilst promoting its current third season, it was announced that season 4 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon would be its last. It seems a shame, given the show feels as though it has only just found its true form. However, this third season does still feel somewhat like unshaped clay, with the promise of greatness lying just under the surface, if only it can be placed in the right artist’s hands.
Where we left off
The end of the second season of Daryl Dixon saw Daryl (Norman Reedus) say goodbye to the temporary life he’d made while stranded in France, and reuniting...

Pete Townshend’s Quadrophenia, A Rock Ballet will make its New York stage debut this November, producers announced today.
Directed by Rob Ashford with choreography by Paul Roberts, the dance production will play at New York City Center November 14-16. The production arrives from a sold-out run of performances at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London and a UK tour.
Townshend said in a statement, “Quadrophenia is the only Who album that I solely composed and produced, and the movie that followed in 1979 launched the careers of some of the finest young actors of the time. In 2016 Rachel Fuller agreed to create an orchestral score of the album. When I first heard a demo of this version, without vocals, my first thought was that it would make a powerfully rhythmic and emotionally engaging ballet.

There’s a particular magic that happens when a filmmaker is pushed to their absolute limit, and for writer/director Joshua Elias Palmer, that moment was a two-week intensive under the formidable gaze of Hungarian auteur Béla Tarr. An experience that pulled him back from the brink of leaving filmmaking altogether and directly yielded his profoundly moving short film, Coda, an achingly poignant piece of empathetic cinema. The film absorbs you in its profound quietude, using the stark, tactile routine of caregiving—washing, feeding, enduring silence—to articulate a universe of unspoken emotion and sacrifice. It is a testament to the idea that the most resonant stories are often told not through dialogue,...

A new William Shakespeare movie directed by an Oscar winner has debuted with a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Shakespeare is perhaps the most notable playwright in the English language, having penned iconic Elizabethan dramas, histories, and comedies including Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Richard III, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet.
Innumerable movies adapted from Shakespeare plays have hit the screen from the very beginning of the art form. These range from early silent movies like 1916's The Merchant of Venice to modern adaptations such as 1999's 10 Things I Hate About You(reimagining The Taming of the Shrew) and 2006's She's the Man (reimagining Twelfth Night).

Adapted from Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel of the same name, “Hamnet” is an emotionally pulverizing drama that imagines how the death of William Shakespeare and Anne (or Agnes) Hathaway’s only son might have inspired the creation of his greatest tragedy; think of it as “Shakespeare in Agony.” And yet the violent beauty of this film, which rips your soul out of your chest so completely that its seismic grief almost feels like falling in love or becoming a parent, is that it’s as much about the experience of having a child as it is about the experience of losing one.
More to the point, “Hamnet” is a wrenching story about how those two experiences — so unalike in dignity — might ultimately be catalyzed by the same process of emotional transfiguration. In the first, your heart is placed into someone else’s body. In the second, that body is subsumed into the world.

The Notebook Primer introduces vital figures, films, genres, and movements in film history.Haider.First brought to South Asia in the hands of British imperial agents, William Shakespeare’s plays have since found a home in Bollywood, the Bombay (now Mumbai) film industry, where they have been adapted again and again for nearly a century. Each of these multifarious productions has absorbed the Shakespearean corpus and calibrated it to a distinctly Indian sociocultural context, indigenizing the most prestigious cultural export of the empire. Is the presence of the Bard in Bollywood a postcolonial protest, a commercialization of cultural interplay, or mere cosmopolitan hybridity? While a simple answer is futile, the narrative of Eurocentric primacy,...

The actor, now 50, has built a legendary career with films like Titanic, Inception, The Wolf of Wall Street, Shutter Island, The Revenant, Romeo and Juliet, and Catch Me If You Can. But as he explained in an interview with Esquire, there is one movie he wishes he had taken part in.
DiCaprio revealed that he was first offered the role of Eddie Adams in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 film Boogie Nights. The character is a young dishwasher who gets noticed by filmmaker Jack Horner, played by Burt Reynolds, and soon becomes a famous adult film star under the name Dirk Diggler. With a trip to Florence booked, all I want is to rewatch Medici. The 2016 historical drama series tells of the rise of the powerful Florentine banking dynasty, and with it, the story of the Renaissance. Until recently, I could simply have gone to Netflix and found it there, alongside a wide array of award-winning and obscure titles. But when I Google the show in 2025, the Netflix link only takes me to a blank page. I don’t see it on HBO Max, Disney+, Apple TV+, or any of the smaller streaming platforms. On Amazon Prime I am required to buy each of the three seasons or 24 episodes separately, whereupon they would be stored in a library subject to overnight deletion.

Spanish actor-director Eduardo Casanova takes on the Black Plague and HIV/AIDS pandemics in explosive miniseries “Silence” – as well as female vampires, suddenly faced with the shortage of “uncontaminated” human nourishment.

According to Casanova, “it’s the most complicated illness in the world.”

As Starz prepares to bid farewell to Sam Heughan’s Jamie and Caitriona Balfe’s Claire when “Outlander” airs its final season next year, the franchise turns its attention to the fated love stories of their parents with prequel series “Blood of my Blood.”
Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy play Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, who struggle with what the actors liken to a “Romeo and Juliet” conflict coming from rival clans, while Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine play Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, who unite amid the treacherous conditions of WWI only to be split up again.
As the newcomers took on the roles, they faced a careful balancing act of finding “core similarities” between their characters and either Jamie or Claire, while trying not to replicate Heughan’s or Balfe’s performance.

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Review: Starz Prequel Is a Richly Rendered, Delectably Romantic Treat
In the Netflix dramedy Too Much, a brokenhearted American, Jess, makes the move across the pond, inspired in part by daydreams of stately castles, rolling green hills and dashing gentlemen professing their ardent admiration. She finds, instead, a scruffy musician in a dirty bathroom stall. The connection they strike up may not be the stuff fairy tales are made of, but it’s all the sweeter for being so raw and messy and real.
Or … maybe not. Starz’s latest Diana Gabaldon-based saga, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, is precisely the sort of thing that inspires moonstruck fantasies like Jess’ in the first place, filled as it is with scenic vistas, time-traveling contrivances and prettily suffering soulmates overcoming impossible odds. It’s also a reminder of how incomparably potent such a story can be when it’s done just right. Richly imagined, audaciously epic and, above all, unabashedly and deliriously romantic,...

It tackles head-on the couple’s climb up the political ladder,...

Earlier this week we shared a sneak peek at the upcoming book Screaming and Conjuring from author Clark Collis that put the spotlight on James Gunn’s horror comedy Slither, and we’re back with another Gunn-themed excerpt from the must-read horror book.
This particular exclusive excerpt is all about James Gunn and Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead, the 2004 remake of the George A. Romero masterpiece that Gunn scripted and Snyder directed. Yes, two filmmakers who would go on to bring very different depictions of Superman to the big screen got their start working together on a classic horror remake!
While Dawn of the Dead is fondly remembered as one of the best remakes from that particular period of time, the initial response to the project wasn’t exactly kind. In fact, James Gunn – who had previously written the Scooby-Doo movie at the time – even received death threats.

Thus far, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 has been an unusual ride.
Personally, there’s still something “off” about the execution of what’s transpiring. The time jump hasn’t served the storyline well, and possibly even hindered it.
The characters don’t quite feel like themselves, and as we’re nearing the halfway point of the season, I still don’t know where it’s going or how I’m supposed to feel.
(Erika Doss/Prime Video) Is Tsitp Intentionally Undercutting Its Own Love Triangle?
However, for a series that prides itself on a coveted love triangle and often sacrifices much of the narrative to it, it’s the first time since the series began where I’m left uncertain about what the game plan is.
As previously noted, the only reasonable way the series can write itself out of whatever they’ve done thus far is for...

For more than a decade now, “Outlander” has held mooning fans (and single-show Starz subscribers) in thrall, captivating with its time-traveling love story, historical drama and very spicy sex scenes. And yet, given that it’s based on a series of books by Diana Gabaldon, the show’s ending is in sight, with its eighth and final season due out early next year.
Fortunately for Starz (and for kilt-lovers), Gabaldon’s “Outlander” universe has always been sweeping and expansive. While she wrote the original series of books, spanning decades and continents, Gabaldon was tucking away backstory details in her mind, building a family history for main characters Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall.
And thus began “Outlander: Blood Of My Blood,” the new prequel series from Starz. Framed around source material from executive producer Gabaldon, the series follows the romantic arc of two couples: Jamie’s parents, Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy...

“Washington Black,” Hulu’s new limited series, is an action-adventure story about a bright 11-year-old boy with a talent for science that is both a daring hero’s journey and a sober reminder of a time when people were treated as property. These two themes run concurrently. It is a production that presents a challenge to the cast and crew to show the viewpoints and emotions of both sides well. And they do, for the most part.
Of the four episodes available to critics, the show doesn’t stray from the prize-winning book of the same name by Canadian writer and series co-producer Esi Edugyan. On the July 15 episode of The Young and the Restless, Cane confided in Chance about Damian’s murder. He is dead. So, so dead. So very, very dead. But is he? Is he really? We have questions.
Before the Beginning
Damian (Jermaine Rivers — who said goodbye to Y&r) ended up with a knife in his back. Cane (Billy Flynn) told Chance (Conner Floyd) that he needs to figure out who did it and why. Pronto! The cause of death sure seems to be the stabbing.
But then, why was Damian complaining of dizziness beforehand? Why did he say he thought his drink had been poisoned? Were the two just a coincidence? Real life has coincidences. Fiction should not.
More: Find out what happens next on Y&r.
In Fair Verona, Where We Lay Our Scene
What if Damian was poisoned? But what if it was one of those poisons like in Romeo and Juliet?...

Netflix's Heartstopper movie gets an encouraging update from star Joe Locke. Based on Alice Oseman's webcomic of the same name, the fan-favorite teen dramedy has so far run for three seasons. It tracks the blossoming love story between Charlie (Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor), as well as the trials and tribulations of their teen years.
In lieu of a fourth season, Netflix has greenlit a Heartstopper movie that will bring the story to a close. Filming began back in June, with Oseman providing updates on its progress on social media. It is assumed most of the core cast will return alongside Locke and Connor.
Speaking with BBC News to share the announcement of his West End debut, Locke provided his own update about the Heartstopper movie. He revealed where the movie is in the filming process and shared his own brief thoughts on the ending itself, saying:

According to reporting by The Guardian, a Shakespeare festival in the Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk opened with a demonstration, not a play. Hundreds gathered on the theater steps to demand the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war, as the ongoing conflict with Russia cast a shadow over the artistic proceedings. Later that day, the audience experienced Romeo and Juliet in a striking promenade performance staged in an abandoned factory and the crypt-like basement of the theater. One cast member had recently left the production after signing a military contract. Shakespeare’s plays have seen renewed popularity across Ukraine during the war. Kyiv theaters are currently staging King Lear, Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet. Translator and poet Yuri Andrukhovych, who adapted the...

Disney’s Zombies franchise has become an unexpected cultural phenomenon, transforming from a modest 2018 television movie into a four-film series that reflects the shifting landscape of American teen entertainment. Paul Hoen’s continued stewardship of this universe demonstrates how Disney Channel Original Movies have adapted to serve both nostalgic audiences and new viewers across international markets.
Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires finds protagonists Zed and Addison navigating their post-high school lives, their planned summer camps derailed by a supernatural crisis involving warring vampire and daywalker factions. This premise serves as both narrative device and cultural metaphor, exploring how American coming-of-age stories have evolved to address increasingly complex themes of identity and belonging. The film’s bloodfruit conflict—a resource struggle that splits ancient allies—mirrors contemporary anxieties about environmental scarcity and inherited conflicts that resonate across cultures.
The franchise’s maturation reflects broader changes in how American entertainment addresses young adult audiences.

With Jamie Lloyd’s radical revival of Evita currently lighting up the stage and sidewalk in front of the London Palladium, industry chatter is intensifying around a possible 2027 Broadway transfer. According to Baz Bamigboye of Deadline, sources close to the production are tight-lipped, but insiders suggest that aligning schedules for a New York run is already being quietly considered. Industry whispers also suggest Zegler is being eyed for Maria in a potential Sound of Music revival at Lincoln Center, though no plans have been confirmed. If it happens, the revival would mark Zegler’s Broadway musical debut, she previously appeared in Romeo and Juliet opposite Kit Connor in 2024. Rachel Zegler is starring in one of London’s hottest West End productions right now, as former first lady of Argentina Eva Perón, in Evita.
Posters are plastered around the city and ads line the tube (the London subway), but there’s one creative decision that may be doing a better job at marketing the show than anyone imagined, luring hundreds of spectators to the London Palladium every night.
Director Jamie Lloyd — considered playhouse royalty after his revival of Sunset Boulevard, as well as the Tom Holland-starring Romeo and Juliet — is breaking the fourth wall of theater by having Zegler, star of Snow White and West Side Story, perform live to the street outside.
You read that right. During the show, Zegler, in her West End debut, leaves the stage of the Soho theater for the exterior balcony where she belts out the iconic “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.

With bare-faced cheek, this bardless take replaces all the original language with olden-days-effect prose – adding singing, dancing and a pointlessly starry cast
Director and former stage actor Timothy Scott Bogart is best known for having made Spinning Gold, a biopic of his father Neil Bogart, the New York music producer and founder of the 70s disco-era label Casablanca Records. Now he has confected a syrupy new musical take on Romeo and Juliet, with music by his brother Evan Kidd Bogart (who won a Grammy for his work on Beyoncé’s single Halo).
Bogart retells the basic story but with Shakespeare’s language all removed and replaced with olden-days-effect prose: a kind of bardless Baz Luhrmann. Ultimately – with what I do have to admit is some amiable cheek – Bogart contrives to do for this play what Nahum Tate did for King Lear. It’s really pretty bland, and with each turn...

There was a time in anime, approximately late ’90s to early 2000s, when it wasn’t just trying to be edgy. It was bathing in it. Blood was everywhere, trauma was the default, and fan service felt both gratuitous and oddly melancholic. If you were like me growing up at this time then anime felt like it was maturing with you… just in the most unhinged way possible! But this wasn’t just an anime thing. Music had Eminem spewing raw angst and controversy. Video Games gave us Devil May Cry and Resident Evil , all style, horror, and cool-factor. Comics had CyberSix and Witchblade , dripping with violence and latex. Wrestling hit its Attitude era, swapping our favorite cartoonish heroes for rated R crotch chops and beer-soaked chaos. Anime during this era was riding that same wave, but part of a wider movement. Almost as if to ditch its reputation of...

Interview With Masakazu Kaneko: Nature Is Not a Mere Background to the Story, It Is a Main Character
At university, Masakazu Kaneko began experimenting with films, starting with 8mm and 18mm. At the Film School of Tokyo he took classes from Takahisa Zeze. In 2017 he made his first feature “The Albino’s Trees” which was screened in many international festivals. He continued with his second feature “Ring Wandering” which also brought him the attention of international critics and audiences.
While “Ring Wandering” is a blend of fantasy and drama, Kaneko’s new feature “River Returns” is more of a period drama. However, the story of two people from different social strata falling in love has a lot to say about social hierarchies and how they get in the way of human connection and cooperation.

The first play they did together was a local production of “Romeo and Juliet,” the mere mention of which makes Petticrew’s stomach churn. “We were on a chessboard. Four people came to see it; two of them left,” Petticrew, who uses they/them pronouns, said with a laugh during a recent joint Zoom interview with Boyle. “I had Goth makeup on; Anto looked like Ziggy Stardust. We’ve been hearing rumblings of a reboot of the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes franchise for a long time. Seventeen years, in fact. That’s when it was announced that the duo behind the internet web series Ask a Ninja would be writing a remake. That didn’t pan out, but six years ago, filmmaker Dustin Ferguson said he was about to film the first attack scene for a Killer Tomatoes reboot. Then we never heard another thing about it. Now, Deadline has announced that a new entry in the franchise, titled Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, is set to receive a limited theatrical release this Halloween, courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment – and we don’t have to worry about this project falling apart, because it has already wrapped production!

Netflix recently announced its decision to conclude Heartstopper with a movie, rather than another season.
The show premiered in 2022 and is based on a webcomic series created by Alice Oseman.
Dedicated fans widely loved the first three seasons.
(Netflix/Samuel Dore)
Heartstopper is known for its creative animations and storytelling style, which is similar to the comics. It’s also known for its queer representation.
Not many shows like Heartstopper exist to show young queer people and the realistic challenges they face. The range of LGBTQ+ representation in the show is also pointed out as revolutionary.
So, fans have fought to keep Heartstopper going. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
