The title is from the French fairy tail "Master Cat", more commonly known as "Puss in Boots", about a cat who uses trickery and deceit to gain power, wealth, and the hand of a princess in marriage for his penniless and low-born master. The tale was written by Charles Perrault.

Jerry is seen dancing a traditional sailor's hornpipe at the end of the cartoon.

Tom flies near an astronaut depicting the 1965 Gemini 4 space flight. This mission included the first ever space walk, shown here.

One of the few times Jerry is seen actually enjoying the food he pilfers, if only briefly.
