    Another good Hanna-Barbera cartoon!

The Huckleberry Hound Show was one of the first ever Hanna-Barbera cartoons that was the other first cartoons done by Hanna-Barbera cartoons!

Huckleberry Hound is a blue-haired Southern dog with a fondness for the song, "My Darling, Clementine", and is a jack-of-all-trades cartoon star. He would appear as a scientist, police man, cowboy, jungle boy or something else. Huckleberry Hound's guest stars on his show were Pixie and Dixie, this was one of the segments I liked on this show because I thought it was funny when Mr. Jinks would say "I hate mieces to pieces!" which I think is a famous catch phrase. Yogi Bear was one of the guest stars on this show for a little while until he got his own show and that was when Hokey Wolf took it's place. Hokey Wolf was a free-spirited wolf who would go on a few adventures with his sidekick, Ding-A-Ling.

    Snorefest

No wonder it never got too popular.

    It's really boring and dull.

I don't find it funny at all. I don't find it interesting or smart either.

I don't think the dog's voice is cool either.

It's slow moving, dumb and pointless.

It lacks fun, it lacks fire, it lacks emotion.

From the little I've seen the main character, that dog, is dumb, dull and not exactly making one want to see what he gets up to next.

It has a pretty unrealistically high rating here along with equally unrealistic positive reviews.

Personally, I struggled to find one single fine thing about it. Not one good thing, but one that would make it at least somewhat worth watching. Didn't really find it.

Now, don't take me wrong, it's far from an awful, loathsome show. However, it is quite below average in every way.

I suppose there's a single good thing about it, the animation is decent, it's not ugly or lazily done, as is the case with numerous other cartoon shows.

Overall, you don't really miss much of anything if you skip this one.

    Huck's Voice

I have to echo the previous comments alluding to Huck's voice, by Daws Butler, being based on Andy Griffith's drawl from his early comedy routines and southern characters, pre-Mayberry. Just listen to his routine called 'What it was Was Football', or his comedic take on explaining 'Romeo and Juliet', or watch his 'No Time for Sergeants'. I came across these old gems on the internet a couple of weeks ago after watching the PBS series about Pioneers of Television. One episode of the series, dealing with late night shows and their hosts, had a little bit of him on the old Steve Allen show telling these stories and I mentioned to my wife then that I thought the voice of Huck had to be based on Andy. I watched Huck's show starting with its debut in 1958 when I was 9 but I don't remember ever noticing the similarity before.

    Best Boomerang Show EVER!

This show had to be HB's masterpiece in 1958. They've really done a good job. I like Huck's voice, feels relaxing to listen. When your trying to find a good cartoon to watch? This is the place, along with other HB cartoons. This show really made HB more money,

A dog with a fondness for the song "My Darling, Clementine"- nice idea to work with

While there are areas where the animation has its limitations and one or two of the story lines somewhat repetitive, The Huckleberry Hound Show is still very entertaining. The music is great, the writing is funny and the gags are well done. And when the animation is not limited, it looks really nice, and I will say the animation on Hucklberry Hound himself is superb. Huckleberry, brilliantly voiced by Daws Butler, is a very lovable blue-haired Southern dog with a fondness for the song "My Darling, Clementine", I like that a lot, and it was a nice idea to work with it. The guest characters Pixie and Dixie are also really endearing and voiced excellently. It was a real joy to hear Don Messick again, he never failed to bring a smile to my face. Overall, entertaining show and worth watching. 8/10 Bethany Cox
