Boris Karloff, who played the sinister butler Morgan in La casa lúgubre (1932), was offered a role in this one as well, but turned it down because he didn't like the script and considered it too biased towards comedy instead of horror.
The drawings in the title sequence were by Charles Addams, whose whole career was inspired by the 1932 version of La casa lúgubre (1932) (of which this is a remake).
This is The Addams Family Charles Addams. Creator of the whole film and TV series.
The film was originally passed as an uncut 'X' by the BBFC in April 1963 and an accompanying poster produced, though for various reasons the film was not released in the UK until 1966. It was then passed with heavy cuts to remove some of the darker elements with an 'A' certificate and released in September 1966. The 1996 Encore video version (now rated PG) featured the original uncut print.
Although filmed with a color negative, the film was released in black-and-white.
