The "Black Cat" segment was recycled for "Comedia de terror (1963)" (even the presence of a meddlesome cat). Many of the same actors appear in both films, only here Peter Lorre plays the drunk married to devoted Joyce Jameson, with Vincent Price introduced as the third member of the triangle; in "Comedy of Terrors" Price and Lorre exchange roles, and Jameson essentially repeats her performance. Not only that, but Price's line "What place is this?" from the "M. Valdemar" segment of "Tales of Terror" is recycled as a running gag for Basil Rathbone in "Comedy of Terrors".

The adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat" also incorporates elements of Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado."

For the story "The Black Cat," Vincent Price based his character of Fortunado on Ernie Kovacs's television character Percy Dovetonsils.

Although passed by the British Board of Film Censors with an "X" certificate on November 20, 1962, the film did not get its UK premiere until March 8, 1963. Opened at the London Pavilion with ¿Habrá otro mañana? (1962) running a popular five weeks. Both films went out on the same bill for their general release at normal prices which commenced Sunday, June 16, 1963.
