Richard Matheson combined two stories by Jules Verne for this screenplay: "Clipper of the Clouds" (1886) and its sequel "Master of the World" (1904).

American-International Pictures had planned on doing a sequel to this film. Concept drawings and even concept models were reportedly made. The sequel was not produced.

Extensive archive footage from Las cuatro plumas (1939) is used.

In the original story, THE CLIPPER OF THE CLOUDS, the craft could fly. In its sequel, Robur's ship could travel on land like an automobile, float like a ship, and go under the water like a submarine as well as fly.
