Dick Powell's health began to fail during the run of this show. The last episode he acted in was The Court Martial of Captain Wycliff (1962) aired December 11, 1962. The last show he hosted was The Honorable Albert Higgins (1963) telecast Jan. 1, 1963. He passed away the next day.
After Dick Powell passed away on Jan. 2, 1963, an impressive list of guest hosts filled in each week, beginning with Gregory Peck; others included Robert Mitchum, Frank Sinatra, Robert Taylor, John Wayne and Ronald Reagan.
Aaron Spelling produced and wrote some of the shows. Spelling would later become one of the most successful producers in TV history, with credits that included El crucero del amor (1977), Los ángeles de Charlie (1976) and Dynasty (1981).
This was an anthology show, a format very popular throughout the first decade of television. The shows were the equivalent of today's TV movies.
