Jerry and Nibbles triumph over Tom, who does himself in by grabbing a lit rocket from the two mice just before it zips into the air and takes him with it. Jerry doesn't get an unambiguous happy ending, though. Nibbles, who has been forbidden to play with fireworks, secretly lights one and then conceals it in a noisemaker when Jerry approaches. Jerry takes the noisemaker and blows through it just as it explodes, blackening his face and making the yellow paper on the noisemaker look like sunflower petals.
