The Truce Hurts is not one of my favourite Tom and Jerry cartoons, but it is a very interesting change of pace. As pretty much usual, the animation is really good, simple yet colourful and solid-looking and the music is a real delight, The Wizard of Oz is one of my favourite movies of all time and to hear two songs from the film in instrumental form was a major plus for me. The story is a little simplistic and predictable, but there are some really nice moments. I loved it that Spike(renamed Butch here) was the one who suggested the truce, and the argument over the steak thus jeopardising the truce was inspired as well. And the characters do still have their likability, Tom, Jerry and Spike, all three of them are great to watch. Overall, not absolutely exceptional, but very good and well worth the watch. 8/10 Bethany Cox
In an effort to put an end to all of the pointless violence, Spike, Tom, and Jerry draw up a truce and attempt to live in harmony together. All is going well for a while, with the trio even protecting each other from harm by other cats and dogs (including alley cat Butch, and a very toothy mongrel).
Of course, the peace was never going to last very long, and, after the threesome find a very large and tasty looking steak and decide to divvy it up (each trying to get the largest piece for themselves), they are soon back to their usual tricks.
An unexceptional T & J caper, made slightly more interesting by the unusual sight of the characters protecting each other, The Truce Hurts gets a very-slightly-above-average rating of 6/10 from me.

Butch the peacemaker? Evidently. After the violent beginning with Spike, Tom and Jerry all swinging away at each other, Butch calls a halt and wants to know why. It's a good question.
"Cats can get along with dogs, can't they?" he asks Tom, who nods his head in agreement. "Mice can get along with cats, right?" Jerry nods "no," and then sees that isn't the right answer.
They go inside and Butch draws up a "Peace Treaty" (complete with professional artwork!). Most of the rest, and the bulk of the cartoon, is the three of them being extremely nice to one another What a refreshing change-of-pace. I found it fun to watch. I can a million of these cartoons in which every beats each other over the head.
Anyway, you knew the peace wasn't going to last. A big piece of steak spells the death of the "peace treaty" but en route it was nice change and still had some of usual Tom & Jerry clever humor.

Tis is a farly typical Tom and Jerry short-a situation is designed, conflict arises and mayhem ensues. The characters behave in appropriate ways, the natural tensions between various characters leads to general chaos. The best (and funniest) part is when the peace treaty is in force and respected-all sorts of strange wonders appear before your eyes. A word of warning-it is most unwise to allow Tom to help you perform your morning cleansing routine! Highly recommended.

''The Truce Hurts'' featured Spike (as Butch) and T&J, they sign a peace treaty, at first they think they can get along and be peaceful, but they still will get angry with each other, at the end, their peace fall down and began fight again.
I guess everybody cannot be peaceful for longer, just like in this cartoon, they can be enemy, and they also can be friends, so I wonder how can some different animals to be get along, although it can't last forever, I think it's similar to some countries can't be get along too! I think this cartoon is rather great, although it still containing violence fighting scene, The sounds of them were good, too.

- TriviaThis is the first Tom and Jerry cartoon in which Spike is called "Butch".
- Versiones alternativasSome TV prints cut part of the scene in which Tom, Jerry and Butch are splashed with mud by a passing van. The part removed is the aftermath of the splashing, which leaves the three characters in blackface.
