An earlier Raj-Kapoor-Nargis film, Awaara (1951), directed by Kapoor himself, had enjoyed an enormous success in Russia and the Middle East, where the social themes invoked had a particular resonance at this period. When Raj and Nargis toured Russia in triumph, they were treated amongst other things to a spectacular puppet-show where the puppets were replicas of themselves. One of the most memorable scenes in Chori Chori is that where the two central characters are watching a country puppet-show and Kammo (Nargis) imagines herself and Sagar (Raj) as the puppets. The duet that follows, with the two actually playing out this fantasy, is one of the best things in the film (and owes nothing to the Capra original). Although Kapoor is not himself the director of Chori Chori, the pair responsible for the music, Shankar and Jaikishan, had also worked on Awaara (and were for that matter a Kapoor discovery). It seems likely that the Russian puppet-show on the post-Awaara tour provided the inspiration for this scene.

Watched Chori Chori (1956)
A classic adaption of timeless Hollywood classic It Happened One Night with unbeaten chemistry of Raj Kapoor-Nargis and one of the finest music album of it's time. Well, when it comes to adaption there is a certain pressure because most of the people had already seen the original and did went praising it like anything. People expect or rather I expect that what more will you bring apart from the original especially when you're gonna change the entire cultural theme of the film keeping the basis idea safe. Chori Chori is longer than expected and has some unnecessary characters and thier songs which i believe shouldn't have been made into final cut. That was quite ignorable because Indian audience was loving Bhagwan dada and Johnny Walker in small roles then. What Anant Thakur brings more is, Indian Culture, Songs, more emotions and the Male point of view is well explored. The only thing it lacked was the intelligence in those dialogues and master storytelling on little equations. Raj Kapoor as Sagar is fantastic but less compared to what Clarke Gable did and the female side of Nargis is also equally fantastic yet less than Claudette Colbert. Like i said, there was lack of intelligence in storytelling and the same might have hampered into characterisations. Not being too harsh, Chori Chori is a fine adaption but the thing you should complain is the original Won Oscar and this one didn't get any Indian Award except Shankar Jaikishan for thier Popular music. Overall, Chori Chori is Must Watch Rom Com for those who don't really watch much of retro Hollywood classics and the outcome is fair enough to get a positive feedback. Meanwhile, the Classic tag is hanging on the rope...

Chori Chori is a romantic comedy film directed by Late Anant Thakur. It stars Late Raj Kapoor, Late Nargis, Late Bhagwan Dada, Late Gope, Late Pran, Late David, and Late Johnny Walker.
The film is hindi adaptation of 1934 classic "It happened one night".
This film which was the last film in which Raj Kapoor and Nargis starred opposite of each other and they had never disappointed whenever they are on screen and same was the case in this film as well.
The screenplay of the film is good and will keep you engaged till the climax. The beautiful and mesmerizing music by Late Shankar Jaikishen will make you spell-bounded.
Acting is superb and as mentioned the dynamic pair of Raj Kapoor and Nargis never disappoints, Pran who plays the role of playboy with perfection was impressive as always and not to forgot the superb comedy by Bhagwan Dada and Johnny Walker.
One of the best romantic comedy film of 50s and a must watch.

That Raj Kapoor and Nargis made a great on screen couple is corroborated by this "It happened one night" inspired flick. Nargis is near perfect as the snobbish heiress on the run. She runs away from a caring father who puts his foot down when she wants to marry a playboy (Pran). Enroute she meets Raj Kapoor, a reporter who wants to do an exclusive on her journey. After the initial bickering and animosity, they fall in love. And after a big misunderstanding , everything gets sorted out in the end. Shankar Jaikishen come up with a score which has a winner in very number. Raj Kapoor is excellent and so is Nargis. Very very watchable.

This is my third R. K movie, and after each one I fall in love with Raj Kapoor's work more and more. I have not seen the original movie, but I am sure to check it out soon.
Having in mind Raj Kapoor's in-real-life history with Nargis, It is no surprise the amazing chemistry they have on screen. If you are a fan of "enemies to lovers" type of storytell, this one is for one. The movie is long, per usual, because of the songs (definitely not my favourite album, but a few good ones), but the movie was so captivating to me, I watched it in one sitting!
Pitty that old Bollywood movies are being forgotten. Love is always represented in its truest and realest form, one can only wish for! The movie has no additional drama, that "adds" to the plot, characters are true to themselves from the beginning, which contributes to the developing of a good love story.
