- Lt. Col. Travis: He just said if we don't walk out of here right now with our hands in the air, we won't walk out at all.
- Billings: What are you going to tell him, sir?
- Lt. Col. Travis: Is this cannon loaded?
- General Sam Houston: I have just received a dispatch that Santa Anna has captured San Antonio. Colonel Travis, with less than 200 men, has withdrawn across the river to the Alamo to prepare for its defense. At the moment, that is the only military force between the Mexican army and the Sabine River... and those men need help!
- Lt. Col. Travis: How do you feel, Jim?
- Jim Bowie: I'd feel a lot better if somebody moved me out on that wall. I'll never get any shootin' done in here.
- Lt. Col. Travis: Don't be too sure of that. There's a lot of 'em left out there. Some of them might even pay you a visit.
- Sam: Just bring 'em in! Me and Mr. Bowie all ready for 'em.
- Lt. Col. Travis: I don't think we won't have to bring 'em in, Sam. It looks as if they intend to come in on their own.
- [Reb is complaining about being cooped up in the Alamo]
- John Stroud: If you get tired of it here, why don't you walk out?
- Reb: I think the biggest mistake I ever made was when I walked in.
- Alamo Soldier: Never thought I live to see the day Johnny Stroud would turn yellow.
- 2nd Alamo Soldier: Who said he is?
- Alamo Soldier: He's runnin' out, isn't he?
- 3rd Alamo Soldier: Did you ever figure it might take more nerve to leave than to stay?
- 4th Alamo Soldier: The worse that can happen to you is that somebody will say you died a hero. That man's going to called a coward the rest of his life.
- Alamo Soldier: Then why's he leavin'?
- 2nd Alamo Soldier: We drew lots. Johnny always was unlucky.
- Jess Wade: Where'd you come from?
- John Stroud: Town.
- Jess Wade: Why'd you leave?
- John Stroud: I had a little throat trouble.
- Dawes: They were going to hang him!
- Jess Wade: The Alamo? What were you doing there in the first place?
- John Stroud: Well, what would you do there if the whole Mexican army...
- Jess Wade: That wasn't what I asked.
- John Stroud: That's the answer you're going to get.
