Donald the Bully

Now Donald Duck is my absolute favorite cartoon character, but I honestly didn't really like him in this cartoon. He's kind of a nasty bully, picking on his nephews by putting live firecrackers in their trick-or-treat bags and by dumping water on their heads. Then Witch Hazel comes in and teaches him a much-deserved lesson. So no matter what happens, bad stuff happens to Donald, but I prefer to see him be an innocent bystander rather than a mean instigator.

Nevertheless, this cartoon does have a nice Disney feel to it. It has its own special song with singing ghosts and a floating pumpkin. I also found it interesting to learn that June Foray, who did the voice of Witch Hazel in this cartoon, also did the voice for Witch Hazel in a Warner Brothers cartoon. It seems like Disney couldn't get a copyright on the name Witch Hazel because it refers to an alcohol rub.

With that little tidbit of info, I still have to say that I didn't care too much for this cartoon. I can't remember many funny moments except when Hazel puts a spell on Donald's feet, but that's about it. It's still a decent Disney cartoon, but it's definitely not my favorite.

My IMDb Rating: 6/10

Classic Halloween

After Donald Duck plays a cruel Halloween prank on his pants-hating nephews, the three team-up with Witch Hazel and her broom to teach him a lesson about 'tricks and treats.' As of this writing (2017), this short is now 65 years old. And it holds up 100%, both for its animation and its music. Far too many movies or cartoons become dated, but this one is truly timeless. In a mere eight minutes, Disney found a way to show us the spirit of Halloween, and throw in a real witch just for fun.

If there is anything at all dated about the short (and this is a big maybe), it is the use of the devil costume. Although Halloween has probably gotten more gory and creepy since this cartoon came out, I feel like actual devil imagery has decreased and perhaps become even taboo.

A nice addition to an otherwise lousy animated feature.

This film was included as a special feature on the DVD for "The Black Cauldron". And, I must say that this Donald Duck short was a lot more entertaining than the feature!

The film begins with a cute witch flying down to get a look of the trick or treaters. She is shocked when she sees Huey, Dewey and Louie tormented by cruel Uncle Donald and she decides to help them. While not one of the best or most amazing shorts (the animation is fair to average), it's enjoyable and had some nice songs.

By the way, the voice for the witch is June Foray--who ALSO did the voice of the Warner Brothers witch--also named Hazel! Beelzebub nice song

A Disney Halloween Tradition

This is one of those Disney Halloween cartoons that has become a viewing tradition for most families. It is in the Halloween Haunts Cartoon Collection from Disney, and was featured in A Disney halloween, aka Halloween Treat. When Donald cheats his nephews out of candy for Trick or Treating, Witch Hazel helps the boys get even. You can probable guess who wins this battle!!!

"What manner of ghoul is this"

Trick or Treat involves Donald Duck up to his old shenanigans by playing tricks on his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie during Halloween.

Witch Hazel sees Donald's trickster ways, and stingy nature, so she decides to help the boys with some magical retribution so that they can receive their treats.

More tricks.

This is a somewhat cute Disney Cartoon starring Donald Duck, who plays a mean trick on nephews Huey, Duey and Louie by giving them firecrackers than candy on Halloween. After their bags explode, Donald douses them with water. Soon, the Witch Hazel sees this and decides to help the boys by giving Donald a taste of his own medicine.

This cartoon short contains a catchy Halloween song and some funny moments. Donald as usual gets the brunt of the bad luck, but, at least the nephews weren't bratty or very annoying in this one. A good one for Halloween and a good one for the kids.

The quintessential Halloween cartoon

There are a lot of Halloween cartoons I love, "Pluto's Judgement Day" and "Broom-Stick Bunny" being two of a great many but I personally think your Halloween is incomplete without "Trick or Treat". This Silly Symphony-all of which are cute, funny and endearing- is brilliant in every way, from the astounding visual effects to the stunning animation which hasn't dated at all it is a delight to the eyes. Also the music is wonderful it provides just the right amount of chills and thrills, as is the voice acting. Our favourite cantankerous quack is voiced to perfection by the incomparable Clarence "Ducky" Nash, while it is June Foray who steals the show as Witch Hazel. Scary and funny(especially with Donald's treatment of his nephews), this is a must see.

Things That Go Bump In The Night

A Walt Disney DONALD DUCK Cartoon.

Donald learns the true meaning of TRICK OR TREAT when he infuriates a wee witch on Halloween.

This funny little film is probably Donald's best cartoon of the 1950's. The animation, music & characterizations are all first rate. June Foray has a fine time voicing Witch Hazel, who unfortunately makes her only appearance in a Disney film here. Clarence Nash provides the unique voices for the Duck and his Nephews.

For the record, Witch Hazel's recipe for the magic brew consists of eye of needle, tongue of shoe, hand of clock, neck of bottle, tail of pout (a type of fish) and whiskers from a billy goat.

Walt Disney (1901-1966) was always intrigued by pictures & drawings. As a lad in Marceline, Missouri, he sketched farm animals on scraps of paper; later, as an ambulance driver in France during the First World War, he drew comic figures on the sides of his vehicle. Back in Kansas City, along with artist Ub Iwerks, Walt developed a primitive animation studio that provided animated commercials and tiny cartoons for the local movie theaters. Always the innovator, his ALICE IN CARTOONLAND series broke ground in placing a live figure in a cartoon universe. Business reversals sent Disney & Iwerks to Hollywood in 1923, where Walt's older brother Roy became his lifelong business manager & counselor. When a mildly successful series with Oswald The Lucky Rabbit was snatched away by the distributor, the character of Mickey Mouse sprung into Walt's imagination, ensuring Disney's immortality. The happy arrival of sound technology made Mickey's screen debut, STEAMBOAT WILLIE (1928), a tremendous audience success with its use of synchronized music. The SILLY SYMPHONIES soon appeared, and Walt's growing crew of marvelously talented animators were quickly conquering new territory with full color, illusions of depth and radical advancements in personality development, an arena in which Walt's genius was unbeatable. Mickey's feisty, naughty behavior had captured millions of fans, but he was soon to be joined by other animated companions: temperamental Donald Duck, intellectually-challenged Goofy and energetic Pluto. All this was in preparation for Walt's grandest dream - feature length animated films. Against a storm of naysayers, Walt persevered and over the next decades delighted children of all ages with the adventures of Snow White, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi & Peter Pan. Walt never forgot that his fortunes were all started by a mouse, or that childlike simplicity of message and lots of hard work always pay off.

Donald's Halloween "Witch-Up"

Another good Halloween cartoon from Disney starring Donald Duck and also reprising the talents of June Foray as another Witch Hazel. Now don't get confused with Warner Bros.' version. Anyway, Hazel assists Huey, Dewy, and Louie in getting their candy from Donald, who does the trick rather than the treat (in trick-or-treating). So Hazel and the boys are going to teach him a lesson about tricking people on Halloween Night-with a little witchcraft, of course.

I love it when Hazel casts a magic spell on Donald's feet and he starts dancing around, also making him kick out the pantry key he swallowed. I also love the title song too. So anyway, it's another Halloween classic.

Be nice give candy!

This 52' "Disney" cartoon short called "Trick or Treat" is a real watch and view every "Halloween" as it's a clever and fun entertaining one supported by music and poem like lyrics. And the chase scenes are clever. Donald has his nephews come for trick or treating only he plays tricks and pranks, like throwing water and giving fake candy, however when the witch flies in she helps the little ducks with spells and magic potions. Donald becomes one frightened duck who plays by the rules and ends up giving candy out! Overall well done liked "Halloween" cartoon from "Disney" a classic!

Neat Old Time Halloween Short

On Halloween night, a witch is seen getting into the Halloween spirit, scaring things, but is scared of a jack-o-lantern. Hiding, she observes Huey, Dewey, and Louie, in costume, trick-or-treating. However, the house they go to is their Uncle Donald's, who decides to hoard all the candy he has for himself and play mean tricks on his own nephews, like giving them firecrackers and pouring water on the poor lads (and this was back when kids watching these short cartoon knew better than to do the slapstick they see on them). Thankfully, the witch, Hazel, feels bad about what she witnessed and meets the three ducklings and happy to see they believe in witches, befriends them and decides to help them get back at their uncle, as Hazel and the three team up to pull the greatest trick on Donald.

This is a neat classic Donald Duck cartoon. This is one of the few that actually has the witch as the hero instead of a bad guy like most literature and media poses them as. Also, the short has a good song to go with it "Trick Or Treat For Halloween" which explains the moral the episode teaches about not being stingy, especially with trick-or-treaters, as if you are going to trick them, you better be prepared to be tricked back.

Donald Duck, his nephews, and Witch Hazel get Trick or Treat

With it being that time of year, I thought it was a perfect night to watch this Donald Duck cartoon taking place on Halloween. He sees his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie knocking on his door and saying, "Trick or treat" but instead of giving them candy, he gives them firecrackers which explode and has a pail above pour water on them! So a Witch Hazel appears to them and offers her services to exact revenge. And does she ever! It's often funny seeing Donald get his comeuppance and this short was no exception, that's for sure! By the way, while there was also a Witch Hazel in a couple of Bugs Bunny cartoons, obviously that one's not the same as this one here though both were voiced by June Foray in the same cadence. Happy Halloween, everybody!

Another Donald Duck 50's Classic...

This was a fun bouncy animation in all its Halloween shlock that can only come from Disney during that period and in any other context outside of a Disney Cartoon, would be utterly horrifying. It's a great little story that progresses smoothly with some enjoyable Halloween imagery.

The delightful voice talent of June Foray (the original Granny from Loony Tunes, Cindy Loo Who from The Grinch, Lucifer from Cinderella, and Rocky the Flying Squirrel, just to name a few) who owned the part of Hazel and made this fun character delightfully colorful, was the heart of this little number.

Over all a non-serious goofy little number with some standard fare music, great voice talent, and fun Halloween visuals.

Disney's Halloween Treat

It's Halloween. Huey, Dewy and Louie are dressed up to go trick or treating at their uncle Donald's place. Donald decides to give his nephews tricks instead of treats. Witch Hazel is looking on and doesn't like what she sees so she decides to help Donald's nephews to get their Halloween treats. Poor Donald goes though a lot by being stingy but he might learn his lesson in the end.

A Disney Halloween Classic!

just lovely

It preserves every flavor of childhood from a time when the notion of Halloween was unknown for me , living under ceausescu regime.

But the tenacious, nice - for kids - witch and her solution for help the nephews of greedy Donald Duck works today like in 1952. Because it represents a chain of demonstrations of imagination, a nice story, fair atmosphere, creepy characters in different light and a sadistic Donald , easy to recognize in few old people, living alone, traits.

But, no doubts, the most seductive remains the witch Hazel , scared by pumpkin, full of compasion about bad joke to children and determined to offer satisfaction ( not only for them). So, pure delight.
