10 YA Fantasy Adaptations That Are Way Better Than the Books
Image
YA – or Young Adult – books are not only popular amongst teenagers. Over time, the genre has become a staple for readers of all ages, and it has inspired a variety of movies and television shows. With the latest Hunger Games novel hitting shelves this week, it seems prudent to look back on some of the best fantasy films and shows adapted from YA novels.

The genre has long represented teenagers and the embarrassing, sometimes horrific, trials of young adulthood. For those who once wandered their school hallways without clear direction, these novels continue to offer an escape, or a way of being seen and relating to others across time and distance.

10 Moments That Made Twilight Fans Quit the Franchise (& Never Look Back)
Image
Edward, Bella, and Jacob's love triangle in The Twilight Saga continues to be one of the most iconic romances of the century, but the franchise was not without its flaws. The fantasy series built a new world with supernatural creatures and its own rules, which was what pulled fans in at first glance. However, certain plot twists and events in the sagaturned fans off so much that they never looked back at the series again.

Some of these moments portrayed Bella in a rather sad light as she pined over Edward, which made fans lose interest as her perspective was the most important one in Twilight. Others, like the imprinting practice, made everyone uncomfortable, and this questionable tradition made viewers and readers quit the series for good. There were plenty of other directions that The Twilight Saga could have taken with these storylines.

When Jacob Tried to Force Himself On Bella,...

Twilight Actor Discusses Kristen Stewart's R-Rated Blooper Reel That Fans Will Never Get To See
Image
The Twilight Saga is primarily known for the love triangle between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). However, despite the teenage melodrama in the story, the vibe behind the scenes was very different.

During an appearance at Indiana Comic Con, Jackson Rathbone said things often got very R-rated during filming. The production team even put together a special screening of a blooper reel featuring a montage of expletives used by Stewart every time she messed up her lines. "There was one time where they put out a special blooper screening. I think this is for Breaking Dawn or Eclipse, where it was just every time Kristen curses. It was like, when she's messing up her lines. It's like eight minutes long. It is amazing," he said via Collider.

Although several Twilight blooper reels have been released over the years, this particular reel was...

Where Was Twilight Filmed? Every Major Location Explained
Image
In 2008, the first "Twilight" movie — based on a novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer — hit theaters, made stars out of the two young leads Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and became one of the biggest young adult sensations in modern cinematic history. The story begins when Stewart's socially awkward teen Bella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her dad Charlie (Billy Burke), the police chief of the small town; her whole world turns sideways when she meets Edward Cullen (Pattinson), a handsome but mysterious high school student hiding an enormous secret. (He's a vampire. That's the secret.)

Across five movies — "Twilight" and its "Twilight Saga" sequels "New Moon," "Eclipse," and parts one and two of "Breaking Dawn" — we watch as Bella and Edward navigate the difficulties of a relationship between a human teenager and a century-old vampire masquerading as a regular teenager, dealing with all...

When Robert Pattinson’s Twilight Hygiene Habits Drove Everyone Crazy: “He Stinks. I Mean, It’s Awful”
Image
Robert Pattinson Twilight Hygiene (Photo Credit – Facebook)

Robert Pattinson may have played a dreamy vampire in Twilight, but his off-screen hygiene habits were more horror than heartthrob. During the filming of New Moon, an insider on set told E! News, “He stinks. I mean, it’s awful. He never showers, and it drives people on the set crazy. […] He completely reeks.” That’s not exactly the kind of immortality Edward Cullen was known for.

Pattinson didn’t just skip showers—his hair also went untouched for weeks. When Extra asked him if he had really gone six weeks without washing his hair, he casually admitted, “Probably. I don’t know. I don’t really see the point in washing your hair.” He even doubled down, asking, “If you don’t care if your hair is clean, then why would you wash it?” While fans adored his effortlessly tousled locks, the...

‘Anne of Green Gables’ Star Megan Follows to Play Its Author Lucy Maud Montgomery in Series ‘Lucy. Maud’ (Exclusive)
Image
Megan Follows is coming full circle: After breaking out as Anne Shirley in “Anne of Green Gables,” she will now play its author Lucy Maud Montgomery in upcoming series “Lucy. Maud.”

“I’ve always been incredibly grateful to be introduced, as a young woman, to the power of a character who was a central figure in her own story. One thing I share with the writers [of the show] is that our lives were greatly influenced by Anne. She defined us as artists, as writers, me as an actor,” she told Variety.

“Anne of Green Gables,” about an orphaned girl coming to Prince Edward Island in the late 19th century after being adopted – by mistake – by middle-aged siblings and immediately changing their lives, premiered in 1985.

“On my way to Berlin, four different flight attendants came up to me because they recognized me from that show. They all had something personal to say about...

10 Details in The Twilight Saga That Make No Sense
Image
The Twilight Saga achieved the heights of fame and popularity when it was released, and it continues to be a cultural monolith thirteen years later. The vampire-werewolf franchise captivated fans with its love story, but there is a reason why Twilight gets a lot of flak. Edward and Bella's chemistry was sizzling, and the folklore was engrossing, but there were plenty of details in the series that made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Some of these details were in both the books and movies, while others were only in the cinematic version. From inconsistent vampire powers to errors in historical details, the otherwise solid foundation of Twilight was rattled by these irregularities. Fans found it hard to follow certain plotlines when these nonsensical elements popped up.

Casting Jacob in 'Twilight' - 3 Actors Competed With Taylor Lautner for Role (1 Nearly Replaced Him)
Image
Twilight‘s popularity made the role of Jacob Black one of the hottest in Hollywood when the movies were first announced, and the role ultimately sent Taylor Lautner‘s career into overdrive when he booked it.

The 33-year-old actor played the popular young werewolf who vied for Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) heart across five movies, starting with the first in 2008.

He beat out quite a few actors to land the role. However, Taylor actually almost lost the part when it was time to film the second movie.

In fact, another star even implied that they were taking the role over… What happened and why was Taylor‘s role in danger?

We were curious about who else could have brought Jacob to life and did some digging. In the process, we discovered three stars who were up for that part, including author Stephenie Meyer‘s first choice, the actor who...

The Strongest Characters in Twilight, Ranked
Image
The Twilight Saga blended the romance, fantasy and action genres seamlessly. Edward and Bella's romance was the fulcrum of the series, but the conflicts between vampires and werewolves were just as important. The vampires, or Cold Ones, were basically invincible, and they had additional mental and physical abilities that made them super strong in the face of other supernatural beings.

While the vampires had their immortality and powers, the werewolves or shapeshifters in Forks were blessed with raw power. Their strength lay in their transformation into vicious wolves, and their unity as a pack made them even stronger than the vampires, most times. The strongest characters in Twilight had a combination of physical and mental strengths, which made them hard to beat.

10 Most Problematic Twilight Saga Characters, Ranked
Image
The Twilight Saga may have set a precedent for vampire romances, but the movies were a breeding ground for unhealthy relationship dynamics. From Bella and Edward's problematic relationship to supporting characters who did nothing for the narrative, the popular cult classic did not withstand the test of time. The growth associated with several characters, including their knack for making questionable choices, did not align with modern standards in certain aspects.

Whether it was Bella's overall attitude to handling a teenage affair or her mother being extremely naïve and irresponsible, it's difficult to pronounce the Twilight movies as anything more than a guilty pleasure indulgence. Having said that, fans would definitely agree that when it came to being utterly unbearable, some Twilight characters were ahead of the others.

Twilights Where The Hell Have You Been Loca? Meme Explained
Image
Jacob's "Bella, where the Hell have you been, loca?" line in New Moon became a hilarious meme moment. New Moon was the weakest Twilight movie with an awkward plot, leading to harsh criticism. Twilight is filled with unintentionally funny moments, providing plenty of meme material for fans.

There were many memeworthy moments in Twilight, but one of the most unintentionally hilarious was Jacob's bizarre line from 2009's New Moon, when he incredulously asked Kristen Stewart's heroine Bella where the Hell have you been, loca? Released in 2008, Twilight was a melodramatic fantasy romance based on the bestselling novels by Stephenie Meyers. While viewers may have loved the movies despite their corniness, critics were not kind to Twilight, and 2009s New Moon, in particular, received a veritable mauling from reviewers.

To be fair to the critics, New Moon was the weakest movie of the series and featured an infamously pointless plot,...

"Is Edward A Teen Dad?" & 6 More Questions We Still Have About Twilight
Image
The Twilight Saga movies, based on Stephenie Meyer's novels, made a huge impact when they hit theaters – turning vampires from spooky to sparkly overnight in the pop culture imagination, and enthralling audiences worldwide. Despite commercial success, Twilight also drew widespread criticism over what many saw as a clichéd script, plus the romanticizing of controlling relationships and self-destructive behavior. The movies also left audiences with questions and gaps, with characters sometimes making puzzling decisions or having abilities that weren't fully explained.

Starring Kristen Stewart as human Bella Swan, Robert Pattinson as "vegetarian" vampire Edward Cullen, and Taylor Lautner as werewolf Jacob, Twilight gave its own take on the mythical creatures. The series provided plenty of its own lore over the course of five films, based on Meyer's four young adult volumes. However, as former dedicated tweens now prepare to dust off their Team Edward or Team Jacob shirts ahead...

10 Famous Songs You Had No Idea Were About Movies & TV Shows
Image
Movies and TV shows can inspire musicians to create songs that reflect the themes and emotions of the on-screen stories. Some songs are directly connected to a specific film or show, using lyrics and references to retell the story or capture its ambiance. Other songs may take a more subtle approach, using vague themes or specific scenes from movies as inspiration to create their own narrative or atmosphere.

Inspiration for music can come from just about anywhere, but the movies and television shows artists watch are especially good sources of creativity, even when the inspiration is completely subtle. From Friday the 13th to Citizen Kane, the following songs are those that came to life because of famous films and television series, although not many even realize it. Not only were they inspired by a particular on-screen story, but they also include understated lyrics and snippets from these movies and shows.

His first Oscar nomination was for Best Music for 1967’s “Valley of the Dolls” and his first win was for Best Music (scoring adaptation and original song score) for 1971’s “Fiddler on the Roof.” And what was the first film he scored? The long-forgotten 1958 Aip release 1958 “Daddy-o.”

In terms of nominations, Williams is second only to Walt Disney. During his 40-plus year film career, he received 26 Oscar — 22 of those were competitive — and a staggering 59 bids. At the 5th Oscars, he won an honorary Oscar for creating Mickey Mouse, while winning the Academy Award for...
