Hallelujah, I'm a hobo

One of the one-shot cartoons from the first decade of Warner Bros. animation - and one that lost its opening credits in the Blue Ribbon reissue - portrays a gaggle of vagabonds who try to ride a train (before getting ejected) and then perform for a radio show. "Hobo Gadget Band" contains the sort of silly gags that were typical of the WB cartoons of this era, like a hobo who avoids the shower except a few drops to clean his eyelids.

It isn't the best cartoon that the Termite Terrace crowd ever created. It was probably just a placeholder between the really great cartoons (1939 also saw "A Day at the Zoo" and "Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur"), but I think that if a cartoon makes you laugh, then it's a good one. I certainly laughed at this one. Worth seeing.

Entertaining, enjoyable one-shot cartoon

This short is a one-shot, that is to say that the characters and situation were not continuing as part of a series, but principally just the one cartoon. It's a thoroughly engaging and entertaining short with excellent use of music (more or less automatic for Warner Brothers animation for most of their existence) as is appropriate, given the title. Pinto Colvig is best known to most people as the voice of Goofy, but did a fair amount of voice work elsewhere. Well worth seeking out. Most recommended
