Fat Wives for Thin

When I watched this short, I was surprised to see that Andy Clyde received top billing. First, he clearly was NOT the lead in the film but should have been billed fourth or fifth or even sixth. Second, he looks NOTHING like the Clyde of the B-movies and B-comedies of the later 1930s. Like George 'Gabby' Hays, Clyde made himself look like a grizzled old coot when he actually was quite the opposite off camera...and here you see and hear what Clyde REALLY was like. Look twice...you might not even recognize him!!

The short is a domestic comedy starring Marjorie Beebe and George Barraud (an odd choice with his VERY patrician English accent). It begins with the husband (Barraud) berating his wife for being fat. Beebe clearly is NOT fat and I hated this portion of the film because of the message it might have given women.

Later, you learn that the husband is actually running around with a married woman and her husband is extremely jealous...and violent. What happens next? Well, surprisingly, the 'fat' wife comes to the rescue!

This is an okay domestic comedy. While I hated the fat lady references in the film (she is clearly NOT fat), it is a modestly enjoyable film and ends on a high note.
