Too much fighting.

Yeah, maybe it was the mood I was in, but I got very tired very quickly of the constant bickering and over-competitiveness of the two principles. It was particularly egregious on the part of the woman, who let her emotions run away with her and bid more than she could afford and over the maximum she agreed on with her partner. Just to get one over her ex-boyfriend. She was too hostile for me. I was really frosted by the imaturity and foolishness. Julie Gonzalo was okay as the female lead, but I loved Tyler Hynes as her love interest. He's resposnsible for most of the stars I gave this one.

Same old.......... but good choice of lead actors

You're never gonna get too much deviation from a typical Hallmark storyline - past relationship, running away, death of a loved one, misunderstanding etc. This one had a novel twist of Julie Gonzalo & Tyler Haynes as past lovers, doing up one side each of a duplex, which first becomes fiercely competitive between the two and then becomes National as a magazine gets people to vote which property is now the best. Both leads were good in this role although Julie's character is a bit oversensitive. Pretty good.

Terrible Movie

I like Hallmark movies but I'm getting tired of the main female character being a witch with a chip on her shoulder. Why does Hallmark think all women are like that?

she's good

Jules Briggs (Julie Gonzalo) is shocked to find that former lover and rival house flipper Lance Waddell (Tyler Hynes) has returned to town to help his father. The combative duo fight over the same property in a public auction. She ends up overpaying. It turns out that he's working on the other side of the same duplex. They challenge each other to a bet and it becomes a media story.

She's good at being flustered. He's fine at provoking her although he could be better. Their chemistry is good. It's fine as a Hallmark romance. I expect that Gonzalo will continue to be a Hallmark regular. Hynes has a simple unthreatening persona which Hallmark seems to like. Quite frankly, I'd like to see Gonzalo be teamed up with a more energetic partner and set up a more combative chemistry.

Real estate themed Hallmark

7.1 stars.

I enjoy this movie for the real estate theme, a woman and a man are competing to finish a duplex and see who can remodel it better and faster. She buys one side at auction and he owns the other side. This film goes back and forth between the two, delves a bit into their personal lives and how they were once an item years ago, and are still dealing with old wounds from the fallout of that relationship. She is an up and coming remodeler, fixer upper, flipper, and he has worked many years for his father's company doing the same. Now he's out on his own trying to make a name for himself apart from dad. He likes spontaneous and off the cuff and she prefers planning and teamwork. Will they be able to play fair in spite of their competitive relationship? If only they are able to meet in the middle...

This movie has some slow moving parts throughout, and so it's my interest in 'Fixer Upper' with Chip and Joanna and my own dabbling in a remodel project some years ago that makes 'Flip that Romance' entertaining for me, but if you aren't into that line of work or hobby, then hopefully the romance aspect is sufficient. For me the passion is a bit too sparse to satisfy, however remodeling a dilapidated duplex is interesting.

A Romantic Love It or Leave It

Say what you will about Hallmark movies, but their pattern to love is consistent: one person is usually snarky, they may have known each other "in the past," they are on competing sides, they may have broken up with a recent beau, etc. The fun take in this version is the "Love it or Leave it" (HDTV) feel between the two characters. The banter is not much unlike the "Property Brothers" as well. The two protagonists as house renovators was a welcomed new theme. It was also nice to see Cardi Wong play a BFF to one of the main characters for a change.

It was ok..

It was fairly average for a hallmark but definitely not one of my favorites. The main female lead (Jules) got annoying after a little bit. It really bothered me that she got so upset about him paying for the painting when she paid for the flooring. I didn't really like any of their final designs either. If you like hallmarks then it's not a bad movie, just wasn't one of my personal favorites.

Best Hallmark movie I've seen in months!

I love the banter and chemistry between the two main characters. Definitely keeps your attention through the whole movie. The guy who plays Lance is probably my new favorite male hallmark actor!

Less than civil romance

'Flip that Romance' is the first 2019 Spring Fever film from Hallmark. The biggest draw here for me was Tyler Hynes, he is always worth watching, even when the film is not good, and he is among the best and most consistent Hallmark regulars. Have not seen enough from Julie Gonzalo, knowing her best from 'Jingle Bell Bride' (which she was better in) and 'A Cinderella Story'. Shannon Chan-Kent is always good value.

2019 was a hit and miss year for Hallmark, not a surprise though considering that all the previous and succeeding years varied widely too. 'Flip that Romance' is not one of the worst 2019 Hallmark films. It is also not one of the best and is a not so promising start for the Spring Fever block. It is also a case of one lead being great and the other trying and struggling with a badly written character. 'Flip that Romance' is not a bad film, just not a particularly good one either.

Beginning with the good, the scenery and decor are absolutely beautiful. The photography complements them very well indeed. The music at least fits and doesn't feel constant or too in your face. There are some very cute and light-hearted moments, some of the banter is fun.

The supporting cast are more than solid all round. The best thing about 'Flip that Romance' is Hynes, who is so easy going, subtly charismatic and charming as a character that is easy to like.

Gonzalo is the opposite. She does try hard, but most of the time it feels like she is trying too hard and she makes her character's already exaggerated and over-written character flaws even more overblown. The over-sensitivity, selfishness and rudeness are just overkill and the character was impossible to connect with. She and Hynes don't have any chemistry together, or certainly not a romantic or cute one due to rooting for him to find someone else.

While some of the banter is fun, it is agreed that the writers go well overboard on the bickering, which is very repetitive and is rather mean-spirited. The characters could have had more depth, while Jules' character writing really unbalances the film. The story maps out pretty much exactly what one expects, but lacks energy and the tensions are contrived beyond belief. The charm and warmth aren't there on the whole, and the ending did not come over as realistic and feels unwarranted.

In summary, another watchable but not particularly good film. 5/10.

Gotta watch this one. Best Hallmark Movie in a While!

Flip This Romance is showing as I write this and is not even over yet and I am loving it! The two main characters are working together perfectly. Lots of good humor along with fun competiton between two old friends who have become public rivals in the house flipping field. Gotta watch this one!

Flip That Romance

A nice, easy going Hallmark film, with it nice to see some different faces in the line-up also.

Yes, there's a lot of bickering between the two main characters, but other than that I enjoyed this.

Great movie

I always enjoy Tyler Hynes in Hallmark movies and he never disappoints,.

In this case he is well-paired with Julia Gonzalo they had chemistry and their banter was not over the top. So glad he was paired with an actress that was his equal in the acting department and he didn't have to carry the movie alone.

The story was not the same old same old Hallmark Movie, the script was well written many of the plot points were refreshing new. The supporting actors were good too

My only complaint is that I wanted them to tie in the contest.

This movie is definately on my, I'd watch it again list.

Try it, you'll like it.

don't listen to the haters i liked this movie

They had conflict from the beginning. The female lead was very believable. You want her to win, but in the end you just want the two main leads to find romance with each other. I know some of the people think it is the same plot, but isn't all romance similar? you want the man and woman to find love by the end.

Movie goof?

Did they start out flipping one side and end up on the other side? I thought she bought side B at beginning?

Not great.

I realized I got sick of the fighting and banter really quickly. It was annoying and honestly I was not rooting for them to get together and was glad when the movie was over. Sorry.

Barely watchable

I hate movies that make women look like idiots. The female lead in this turkey is made to act like a foolish, brainless, immature princess. The male lead, OTOH, is brawny and talented. Why he wants to win her back is beyond imagination. Missable.

Contrived, unrealistic plot. Too much disagreement.

I like most hallmark movies, but not this one . The female lead was way too hostile. Plus, the plot was totally ridiculous. No one buys half a duplex. What about the roof? You can't replace half of a roof. What about the exterior materials and colors? What if the person who bought the other half wanted to paint it orange, or purple? When you buy a property you buy the entire parcel. When you buy a duplex, you buy both halves at the same time. Stupid, contrived plot, disagreeable characters.
