A Kid from Coney Island

I am a basketball fan and was curious to watch this documentary tell of Marburys story, a talented player - was he misunderstood or a menace? Who was the man behind the star who never fully realised his potential?

On the whole it was hugely disappointing, poor storytelling and you never feel like you really get to know or understand him properly. You spend 80% of the documentary listening to biased interviews with his family who often talk how he was the victim at the many franchises he appeared for and don't get any real insight from elsewhere - you don't even hear from him until 25 mins from the end when the fairytale china move materialises.

Nothing more than a story with little depth that fails to bring us true insight into the person. Felt like a PR video!

Starbury was the truth and it's great to see him have a great movie about himself. I grew up watching Born to Ball and the other dvds and he was on there. A beast for Minny and Phoenix. Enjoyed it

Bleh. Bunch of interviews from his family and "community members" at the barber shop. About 90 percent of the quotes were pretty cringe. Really makes you wonder what kind of babble was actually cut from the documentary. Not nearly enough interviews with people who knew him. And zero from teammates. None from coaches. Basically a bunch of nobodies that want to sit in the sunlight of the guy from their hood who made it in the NBA. Watching his brother talk for about an hour of the documentary... Rough.. What I got from this documentary was that his poor reputation was well earned... Hearing biased people make excuses after excuse after excuse for him. It was so annoying. Only reason not a 1 was because I enjoyed watching the cool highlights of Marbury which I could have watched in ten minutes on YouTube... you know what... I'll actually make it a 1. It's funny that Steph doesn't even appear in this documentary till the end... I wonder why..

So few people know who Stephon really was and what he went through bc of the media's decision to outcast him. This is a powerful documentary showing the triumphs, falls, and most importantly how staying true to yourself can take you anywhere. Steph is the type of guy the world needed. He focused on change and his morals centered around doing the right thing. Ultimately whether you know everything or nothing about Starbury, this will motivate and empower you to stay true.
