Amazon’s Prime Video revealed Monday that viewership for the first two episodes of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 3 was up 40% from the comparable Season 2 premiere. The two-part third season launch on July 16 drew 25 million unique global viewers across its first seven days of availability.

Prime Video did not disclose the initial viewership for “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 launch, which occurred July 14, 2023, for comparison, but it should be noted that batch launched with three episodes vs. Season 3’s two.

The third and final season of Prime Video’s YA series attracted 25 million worldwide viewers in the week after its July 16 premiere, the Amazon-owned streamer says. That marks a 40 percent increase over the same timeframe for season two in July 2023 (which would put the first-week audience at roughly 17.9 million viewers).

That figure (which also represents a tripling of the show’s first-season audience over seven days) makes The Summer I Turned Pretty the No. 5 returning show in Prime Video’s history, based on the streamer’s internal data. It trails only seasons two and three of Reacher, season two of The Rings of Power and season four of The Boys. A handful of debut seasons have also topped that mark.

Bluey is once again the most popular show in America, at least for the first half of 2025. According to data from Nielsen, the kids’ show was streamed for over 25 billion minutes between January and June this year.

That’s almost half of what it got last year when people watched it for more than 55 billion minutes total. Bluey has been showing up in Nielsen’s weekly streaming charts every single week for nearly three years, starting back in October 2022.

Nielsen’s latest report also shows that older shows, also known as library series, are still winning when it comes to streaming. Out of the top 10 most streamed shows overall, nine of them are older shows.

In fact, Squid Game was the only made-for-streaming program that cracked the Top 10, putting up more than 15B minutes viewed in the first half of the year. This is quite impressive, especially given the measurement window. Season 2 of the Netflix series launched just days before the start of the new year and, while it certainly retained momentum into January, this tally is missing some monster viewership from the first few days of availability.

When the trailer for "The Bondsman" first debuted, it looked as though Kevin Bacon had found the streaming age premium drama that would prompt a full on Baconnaissance. After all, Kevin Bacon hunting down demons for the devil seemed like the kind of show that could really prosper on Prime Video, and for a while, it looked as though that's exactly what was happening.

Danny Reagan’s youngest son Sean will look a little different when he appears alongside his dad on CBS’ upcoming drama series Boston Blue. Mika Amonsen has been cast as a series regular opposite Donnie Wahlberg on the Blue Bloods offshoot, taking over the role of Sean Reagan.

On Blue Bloods, Sean was played by Andrew Terraciano who recurred throughout the series’ 14-season run. According to sources, the recasting stems from the character taking a new creative direction on Boston Blue as he follows the Reagans’ career path into law enforcement. Meanwhile, the addition of Sean to the offshoot helps explain Danny’s move from his native New York to Boston.

On Boston Blue, Wahlberg reprises his role as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston Pd. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

CBS’ Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue will feature another character from the original series, albeit played by a different actor.

Netflix has decided to cancel two of its newer series, Pulse and The Residence, both of which only made it through one season. The news comes from Deadline, who reported that viewership just wasn’t strong enough to justify keeping them on the platform.

The Residence was released on March 20 and starred Uzo Aduba, known from Orange is the New Black. She played a detective investigating a murder that happened during a White House state dinner.

The mystery show had a light tone despite the murder theme, and it got pretty good feedback. Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 85% critics score and a 78% audience score. That’s actually higher than what Squid Game received.

But the series had one big problem: it was expensive to make. Deadline says it might have been the most costly White House set ever built for TV, which made a second season unlikely.
