So far Jonathan Frakes (William Riker), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), and Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager) are confirmed to appear. Brent Spiner, who played Data/Lore/B4 in the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV show and films, is also confirmed to appear (although Data "died" at the end of the last Next Generation film Star Trek: Nemesis). Jonathan del Arco reprises Hugh (3 of 5) from the Borg episodes of Next Generation.

In January 2020, Patrick Stewart asked Whoopi Goldberg on live television if she would consider playing Guinan in season 2 of Picard, and Goldberg said yes.

A TV series allows for long form storytelling, in this case a 10 hour visual story vs a 2 hour visual story. This grants far more opportunity for character and world building. However, the premise of this series will make it quite different from all previous iterations of Star Trek.

The series takes place in 2399, about 20 years after the events of Némesis (2002), which was the last of the four Star Trek: The Next Generation films. The story follows Admiral Jean-Luc Picard who has now retired from Starfleet.

It follows the Prime timeline, which all the previous Star Trek TV shows were set in. This timeline includes the destruction of Romulus which occured in the 2009 Star Trek film but does not move into the so-called "Kelvin" timeline that was followed in that film and its sequels, and remains in the Prime universe timeline. As such, Vulcan would still exist in this timeline.

It is possible to watch the show without prior knowledge, but would be beneficial to have watched some of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

When an old connection is made, it is always explained who these are. The link between Picard and both Riker and Troi, for instance.

The only Vulcan we see is Commodore Oh, who however is not what she seems to be.

So far, the Klingons have not been involved in it.
