The Best Shark Movies That Aren't Jaws Have One Key Thing In Common
Image

Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" is one of the most commercially successful, critically beloved, and important blockbuster movies ever made. Full stop. It just turned 50 this week, and few movies that are five decades old look quite as fresh to modern audiences as this masterful, terrifying depiction of man vs. nature. Put simply, it's the best shark movie ever made -- and it's not even close.

Me saying that "Jaws" is the greatest shark movie to ever grace the silver screen is far from original, it's pretty much accepted as fact (or as close as one gets to fact when expressing a critical opinion). That being the case, it's not surprising that we've had many shark movies over the years that have tried to mimic the success of Spielberg's 1975 cinematic classic. Some have been sort of successful (like "Great White...

The Keepers of the 5 Kingdoms is the latest film in James Hong’s impressive career. It’s a career that goes back to the 1950s, and between then, and now he’s racked up over 450 credits as an actor, including Big Trouble in Little China, Kung Fu Panda, Batman: Soul of the Dragon and Everything Everywhere All at Once. He’s also written and directed a handful of films, most notably the 1989 horror film The Vineyard.

Here he provided the story the script is based on as well as playing Chuck Lee, the grandfather of the film’s heroine Patsy Lee. Patsy is a studious young woman who just wants to get a scholarship so she can go...

Shark Week: Why Do We Love Schlock Shark Movies?
Image
We are absolutely fascinated by sharks. Discovery's 35th Shark Week kicked off on July 23rd, hosted by none other than Aquaman Jason Momoa himself. Not just sharks in real life, either. No, we love them on screen, and we like them schlocky. Sharknado, Deep Blue Sea, Sand Sharks, 6-Headed Shark Attack, Sharktopus. And we are mere days away from the latest schlock-shark extravaganza, Meg 2: The Trench, which appears to have embraced its campiness wholeheartedly, as evidenced by the darkly humorous trailer for the film. Plus, Shudder make a whole documentary about this very topic called Sharksploitation which you can watch on the horror streamer now.

James Gunn Says Final Destination 2 Is Better Than The Original
It’s oft-repeated movie wisdom that sequels are always inferior to their originals. Of course, people who watch enough films and take the time to think about them instead of reiterating the same trite axioms as everyone else know this to be far from accurate. Apropos of nothing, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took to Twitter to put forward a litany of sequels he considers to outstrip their predecessors in quality.

Wrath of Kahn

Superman II

Batman Returns

Gremlins 2

Blade II

Legend of the Drunken Master

Desperado

Blade Runner 2049

Magnum Force

Final Destination 2

Captain America Winter Soldier

Swordsman II

Add others below.

Ps It’s an unarguable fact Alien & Aliens are equal.

‘Sharknado 6’ Trailer: This Time They’re History — No, Really
Susan Backlinie and Bruce in Tiburón (1975)
Sad news for those of you who have enjoyed the first five iterations of the Sharknado thing: Episode VI – It’s Come to This (fake title) is the last chapter in the toothy saga. But we’ll always have the memories. Come to think of it, that news seems just as sad.

Regardless, here is the final trailer for the final Jaws-meets-weather event, The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time (real title). Airing on Sunday, it wraps Syfy’s Sharknado Week of such awards-bait programming as Nightmare Shark and 6-Headed Shark Attack. Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, who somehow have dodged being chum in the first five of these flicks, are back for the wrapup, in which they are hurled back in time to stop the Sharknado that started it all. Will Fin and the gang be able to set everything right and save the world once and for all?...

Insane Sharknado 6 Trailer Has Dinosaurs, Superheroes and Giant Sharks
SyFy has released a new teaser for The Last Sharknado: It's About Time and it's completely insane. Along with the crazy sharks, dinosaurs and superheroes have joined the mix as well. The first installment of the wildly successful franchise premiered in 2013 and the latest, which will also be the last, premieres on August 19th. The series stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid as Fin and April Shepard, a husband and wife who can't stop running into sharknadoes, which are obviously tornadoes filled with sharks, wherever they go. It's all about to come to a gigantic, history-making climax.

The 2018 summer box office has seen some pretty heavy hitters including Infinity War and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom to name a few, which are given the spoof treatment in the latest teaser for Sharknado 6. Tara Reid is spotted in the teaser wearing a superhero costume while dinosaurs are running around. If that wasn't enough,...
