I usually enjoy these types of shows. Although when watching the trailer, my first thought was "Oh look, Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars combined!"
I wasn't completely wrong. Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed watching it. But I am so over the cliche portrayals of the young people (nerd, athlete etc...) and also I'm getting really tired of 25-something people playing higschool students. Bronwyn was the Spencer and Cooper was Emily of the PLL.
Once almost everyone got ruled out as a suspect it could only have been that one person. Which I am okay with. What I'm not ok is how the whole thing ended. Not gonna spoil anything for you, it was a pretty decent watch if you can omit some stuff.

Ok so from the moment I saw the cast, I didn't have exactly high standards for the show. It seemed like yet another teen drama involving a rich kids' school, a bunch of over the top depictions of high schoolers' lives. But now, I honestly don't know how to describe it. It wasn't a bad show. It had my mind running around trying to figure out who did it and I still couldn't guess it right. The characters had some depth to them; addy has a habit of twirling her hair when nervous and Bronwyn shakes her legs. I also liked the cinematics and thought they were nice. The plot too was very good. What I didn't like tho, is the lack of innovation it had. The story at this point has been worn out. It was used in 13 reasons why, control Z, and Elite, to name but a few. I also didn't like how they munched on the old stereotypes of the bad boy going for the hard working, good girl, the rich kids' parents don't know him well, the jock who's a closeted gay, like this is 2022, being gay isn't that big of a deal anymore . I didn't like how they didn't address certain elements. Like, Maeve says she went through lukemia, we never see her struggle with it, the bad boy has been gone for a while, we don't exactly see what he's been up to during that time, Addy has been stalked by someone but they don't tell us who it was. My point is, the plot had many holes and it would have been better if they'd have been a little but more creative, I understand that it's difficult when almost every single idea out there has been exploited . I did appreciate the fact that it didn't have much sex or nudity. I feel like Netflix turned this into a norm now for its shows, which is a shame.
Anyway, I recommend this show if you're looking for a quick binge.

Classic Netflix series for teenagers made on a very low budget. Simultaneously with this series I watched The AfterParty on Apple TV +. Two completely different worlds, Afterparty is beautiful while this series is a real disaster in every respect. I don't expect the same quality of Apple TV Plus products, since Apple can afford a theoretically unlimited budget, but at least a minimum of commitment I do. Horrible!
The first episode came out today, streaming on Peacock. With the R-rated language and sex encounters it doesn't appear to be targeting teenagers. More of an adult drama. It has the usual common mix of gay and straight relationships and a small time drug dealer. Now I find myself wondering if there will be a gun brought to school.
It features attractive, mostly unknown actors who carry their roles appropriately. No Oscars or Emmys for this group. Viewers who don't enjoy seeing two boys in passionate, romantic embrace should skip this series.
On the first day of school five students get into minor troubles and are held into after-school detention. An incident outside caused the teacher to rush out, just as the local troublemaker takes a drink from the water fountain. A clue might be the paper cup he used. He quickly falls ill from some sort of allergic reaction, they were unable to save him.
So all that happens right away, the mini series appears it will be about the rest of the students and what actually happened, who is hiding what. Police start to investigate, school lockers are searched, the laptop is missing. Really nothing new here but it is interesting to see how they put it all together.
I continued to watch it as a diversion, it sort of grows on you, wondering what the "Murder Club" will do next to find the one responsible. I didn't find that it has that "must watch" feel to it, more of a guilty pleasure, but I did watch it to the end. A bunch of really messed up "high school" students and a few confused parents. ."

It could have been better, but it was a pretty interesting show that kept me vested considering I'm 36 and this show is about a bunch of high schoolers that "find themselves" after being accused of murdering a peer. As far as high school shows go, it was one of the better series. I hate shows that have supposed to be 16 year-olds looking 25 and acting 35 (I'm talking to you, Pretty Little Liars and Riverdale), but this one was fairly believable and didn't give the characters too much credit, like other shows where a 16 year-old has numerous unexplained financial resources and seems to be smarter than any FBI agent or detective in town. Not great, but good.
