Tampoco Tan Grandes

As Tampoco Tan Grandes (Not Quite Adults) opens, Lola is informed by her mother that her age is 30, not 29 and her father Toribio has just died in the resort city of Mar Del Plata, 400 km from Buenos Aires; Lola must attend the reading of his will. Lola undertakes the journey in company of Teo, her on/off boyfriend and would be filmmaker and Teo's sister. Once in Mar del Plata they meet her father's lover Natalio and are informed that Lola's only inheritance is a small piece of land in Lago Espejo (Mirror Lake), 1500 km from Mar del Plata. Natalio tells them that Toribio wanted his ashes to be scattered in Lola's inherited land.

This is it. The subject of a road trip to scatter someone's ashes in the right place is not new and its treatment here is not very original. The negatives: Forced cuteness and predictable situations, some funny some not. Some characters (Natalio) are mostly built of clichés. On the other hand the script is witty with subtle touches such as: Is Lola's learning her true age a hint that it is time to grow up? Is her petty kleptomania a protest against settling down from a more adventurous youth? At the end our heroes reach Lago Espejo under a shower of pumice and ash from a nearby volcano, which connects with Teo's latest movie project and closes the circle. All in all a movie that does not entirely satisfy but an entertaining watch.

I saw this Film at the Santa Barbara Intl Film Fest, the lead actress and writer were on hand after the showing for a q and a ? which was really neat. She is cute as a button. The movie is sort like "LIttle Miss Sunshine" meets "The Big Lebowski" in Argentina, where it was filmed. Lola is supposed to get married but she finds out her Father has died and left her an inheritance. So she must travel to visit the Attorneys to sign some papers. She reaches out to her EX and his addict Sister for advice and a ride. I thought it was funny how cold a feet Lola has about exactly when she is getting married. Here they go and I will not Spoil just in courage you to see this Film and characters for yourself Sub Titles flash by quickly Very Nice Soundtrack !! Well received and attended at the Fest
