This movie felt like 5 different movies mashed together and tried way too hard to be anything other than cliche and cringey. The storyline was so ridiculous at points and it was like it was being written as it was shot. Nothing tied together, no real conclusion/pay-off with a few cheap laughs along the way. Oof..
I was expecting a horror, although I admittedly based that on the name of the movie and the poster.
I was a little surprised to find this fun, intriguing (if a little goofy at times), thriller that kept me engaged throughout.
Like a funner version of the Da Vinci Code in a way, this movie was a great little find - it won't set the world on fire, but as long as you know what you are going in for, it's a lot of fun.

Not sure why actor Alan Ritchson turned producer, writer and director - also cast in his own film, decided to make this film into a parody-type childish humor production. It was riddled with plot and technical issues, long dragged out and unnecessary scenes, and lots of ridiculous eye candy that was too much filler for the little substance this film had.
Even though the pacing was decent, the 104 min runtime felt much longer and the too much useless blah blah dialogue made it even that much more annoying. This film needed shorter to-the-point scenes and at least 20 mins cut out of the runtime. The story-telling theme started off OK, but then became infantile once the actors started acting like children. Had Ritchson added an actual treasure map and cast Nicholas Cage, I may have enjoyed it more.
The humor was very lame, cheesy and forced, and only provided a few giggles, thanks in part to Ron Funches' funny demeanor. The casting and acting was actually decent, as were the visuals and set pieces. The score was on point as was the cinematography. I just wish the story took a more serious approach instead of the tween target audience theme, it could've been a hit. Nevertheless, it was a decent production from a newb filmmaker.

The acting was enjoyable. I surprisingly liked it even if this type of comedy is not my cup of tea.
The characters here seem quite one dimensional, especially when it comes to the humor they create. I quite enjoy silly, though even for me it gets quite borderline at times. But the characters and the actors are doing a mighty fine job and it really translates to the screen. So I was a bit in the forgiving mood one could say (flaws and all that).
Of course the ending may kill the entire mood the movie created, on the other hand I'd argue the movie was really aiming for that ... it's not really entirely unexpected ... a bit of fun, nothing more and nothing less. Still offensive to some I can imagine.

- TriviaCicada 3301 is a nickname given to an organization that on three occasions has posted a set of puzzles to recruit codebreakers from the public. The first internet puzzle started on January 4, 2012 on 4chan and ran for approximately one month. A second round began one year later on January 4, 2013, and then a third round following the confirmation of a fresh clue posted on Twitter on January 4, 2014. The stated intent was to recruit "intelligent individuals" by presenting a series of puzzles which were to be solved. No new puzzles were published on January 4, 2015. However, a new clue was posted on Twitter on January 5, 2016. In April 2017 a verified PGP-signed message was found: Beware false paths. Always verify PGP signature from 7A35090F. That message explicitly denies the validity of any unsigned puzzle, as recently as April 2017. The puzzles focused heavily on data security, cryptography, steganography, internet anonymity, and surveillance. It has been called "the most elaborate and mysterious puzzle of the internet age"and is listed as one of the "top 5 eeriest, unsolved mysteries of the internet," and much speculation exists as to its function. Many have speculated that the puzzles are a recruitment tool for the NSA, CIA, MI6, a "Masonic conspiracy" or a cyber mercenary group. Others have claimed Cicada 3301 is an alternate reality game. No company or individual has taken credit for it or attempted to monetize it, however.
