A sequel to the 2007 Australian croc film, Black Water

Notably one of the first new films to be released in UK cinemas after the COVID-19 outbreak.

After the success of original 'Black Water' (2007) and 'The Reef' (2010), both inspired by true stories and made by producer Michael Robertson and director Andrew Traucki, they had long been toying with the idea of working together again. When executive producer Robert Slaviero and producer Neal Kingston came into the mix, Robertson knew they were already off to a good start.

It was eleven years since the original 'Black Water' (2007) release and with a steady climb in demand for suspense/ thriller genre films and a fresh audience generated by the birth of online streaming, the filmmakers considered it the time was right for a sequel. "For some time, I've been considering a follow up film and with my attendance at one of the markets overseas, it became obvious that there was an appetite," said producer Michael Robertson.

Producer Neal Kingston said: "I was a big, big fan of the original and I've known [producer] Michael Robertson for many years. He was looking to generate some new projects and I said, 'look, you had fantastic projects in 'The Reef' and 'Black Water', why don't we use these as tent poles in other franchise installments?'. So, Michael asked me if I could organize a script and from there it really just took off."
