PSYCHO BROTHER-IN-LAW/BLOOD BROTHERS (2017 TV Movie) 6 out of 10 stars Time to Read: 1:59 min

BASIC PLOT: Kay Campbell's (Britt Falardeau) life feels like it's going nowhere. She gave up her career to be a stay at home mom to her daughter Laura (Megan Ashley Brown), and it's not a decision she regrets. But Laura will be in college next year, and Kay would like to get back to her life. Unfortunately, her relationship with her husband Eric (Mike Duff) hasn't been the best lately. He works so often they have to schedule everything, even sex. He seems to have lost interest in her, and in their family, neglecting his basic duties as a husband and a father.

Kay is concerned this loneliness will consume her, but a knock at the door one night changes everything. Eric's brother David (Zack Gold) has come for a surprise visit, and for once, Kay's life isn't so empty.

David is doing all the things Eric should be doing. He's fixed the washing machine, Eric left broken for months, and now he's promised to help Kay with Laura's school fundraiser. More important than any of these simple things, David spends time with Kay, listening to what she has to say. When Eric stands Kay up for their once in a blue moon date night, David is only to happy to step in, whisking her off to a night of friendly companionship.

But Eric seems uncomfortable having David around his family, and he won't tell Kay why. There are too many unspoken truths between the brothers, and Kay is beginning to wonder if she is safe in her own home.

Will Kay uncover the brother's secret's in time to save her family?

WHAT WORKS: *VERY WELL CAST Everyone here is perfect in their roles, casting couldn't be better. Good job Bryan Dietzman & Scotty Mullen (casting by).

*ZACK GOLD DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB AS THE PSYCHO BROTHER-IN-LAW Zack Gold exudes danger with a pleasing smile, not an easy task, but very well done here.

*THIS MOVIE PROVES YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND TO MAKE A GREAT MELODRAMA If IMDb is right, and the cost estimate for this movie is only $200,000.00, then they made a great made-for-tv melodrama at a bargain basement price. It's thoroughly enjoyable, even with it's low budget.

WHAT DOESN'T WORK:

*MOST WOMEN WOULDN'T BE SO ACCOMMODATING Eric stands Kay up for date night (to have drinks with his partners), disses her when she wants to have sex with him, and then is all butt hurt, because they (Kay & David) were "out passed midnight". Most women would be more pissed, and less accommodating. Eric treats Kay like property, instead of being apologetic for standing her up in the first place. Their interaction (fight?) is pretty mild. Most couples would have had a bigger blow up.

*KAY USED TO BE A PARALEGAL, BUT SHE ACTS LIKE THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MURDER AND MANSLAUGHTER When Eric finally tells Kay about David's history, she says, "He's a murderer," and Eric says, "No, it was manslaughter." Kay says, "Oh whatever!" She implies they are the same thing, but as a former paralegal, she would know there are major differences between the two.

TO RECOMMEND, OR NOT TO RECOMMEND, THAT IS THE QUESTION: *If you like, and understand the melodramatic art form, you'll love this! It's a great example of a low budget, made-for-tv thriller. It's silly, campy fun, meant to be a time waster, nothing more. It's a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening, so pop that corn and enjoy!

CLOSING NOTES: *THIS IS A MADE-FOR-TV MOVIE, please keep that in mind before you watch\rate it. TV movies have a much lower budget, and so your expectations should be adjusted.
