This is the end... of the first week of final Emmy voting. TV Academy members — those that aren't already on vacation anyway — have until Wednesday, Aug. 27 to fill out their ballots before settling in for that long Labor Day weekend rest. Meanwhile, most of the major Emmy races have been equally sleepy, at least on the Gold Derby leaderboards. The Studio hasn't budged from its top spot in the Best Comedy Series race and Adolescence retains its lock on Best Limited Series.

As one of the biggest risers in the Emmy odds, The Pitt has the opportunity to accomplish something that has not been done in almost 20 years: winning Best Drama Series with a season longer than 13 episodes. The last time this was achieved was by 24 in 2006. The Fox action serial starring Emmy winner Kiefer Sutherland produced 24 episodes per season as it chronicled a single day. It was also the last time a broadcast-network series won Best Drama.
The Pitt is only the second series in a decade to be nominated in the top category for an elongated season, after This Is Us, with 15 installments. Before that time, broadcast networks dominated the category.

This article could’ve just as easily been focused on “The Pitt.”
Despite the Max original series earning less than half the total nominations of “Severance” (and only the fifth most of any drama series), many prognosticators believe “The Pitt” has a legitimate shot at winning Best Drama Series, along with a handful of other trophies on Emmy night. Over at IndieWire’s sister site, Gold Derby, there’s a nearly even split among experts, with “Severance” clinging to a narrow 11-8 lead.
Working in “The Pitt’s” favor: the critics, who are absolutely rabid for a throwback medical drama consisting of a hefty 15 hourlong episodes; nostalgia, which should hook a few older voters who remember when the Emmys still regularly honored broadcast-style dramas; the “made in L.A.” narrative, which has been getting a lot of press coverage this season, as anxious Hollywood residents rally around productions that help...

The Television Critics Association has been doling out prizes for over 40 years now, with its first awards show in 1985 honoring The Jewel in the Crown and The Cosby Show. Fast-forward to this week, and the 2025 winners consist of The Pitt and The Studio (one win for Best Comedy Series). Since the TCA's champions are announced prior to the Emmys every year, and cover the same June 1-May 31 eligibility period, awards prognosticators often look to the organization as a pivotal bellwether on the campaign trail.

The popular medical drama series is coming back far sooner than many fans anticipated.
Traditional production schedule? Pshaw to that, says HBO Max, at least when it comes to the new season of “The Pitt.” The medical drama series set in an overworked Pittsburgh hospital just wrapped its first season in April, and such shows nearly always take at least a year to craft a second season — especially on HBO, where the high production values usually demand an extended schedule. But as announced on Thursday, HBO will bring back “The Pitt” for a second season far earlier than most would expect.

“Splitsville” may be a rom-com, but Dakota Johnson’s character Julie doesn’t take part in much of the movie’s comedy.
“I liked playing a really sort of unhappy woman,” Johnson told me Tuesday at the film’s premiere at AMC the Grove in Los Angeles.
“Splitsville” follows two couples, made up of Julie and Paul (Michael Angelo Covino) and Ashley (Adria Arjona) and Carey (Kyle Marvin). Their lives begin to unravel when Ashley and Carey breakup and it’s revealed that Julie and Paul have an open relationship.
“I just love this tone of film,” Johnson said. “I love Mike and Kyle’s comedy, the way they write, the way they work together. I think the subject matter [open relationships] is really interesting and controversial, and I think people are very curious about it.”
The cast also includes Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, Charlie Gillespie, Simon Webster, Stephen Adekolu, Tyrone Benskin and O-t Fagbenle.

Most people come for Marvel or Star Wars — but there’s a lot more (and less) than you might expect.
When I think of Disney+, I don’t think “everything service.” I think Marvel. I think Star Wars. I think a massive lineup of animated shows I haven’t watched since I was a kid. And honestly? That’s kind of the whole deal. Disney+ isn’t trying to cover every genre under the sun — it’s built around a very specific universe: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Nat Geo. But once I actually dig in, it’s kind of wild how much content is packed into those five lanes. Between the endless superhero shows, deep-cut Star Wars animation, legacy Disney Channel hits, and every single season of “The Simpsons,” there’s no shortage of stuff to scroll.
So I wanted to take stock of where things stand in...

Since its debut in December 2017, The Chosen has been one of the most consistent hits on streaming. A new series from the Peaky Blinderscreator is in the works, and it sounds like an excellent Succession follow-up. Steven Knight is a film and TV writer who's worked on projects like Eastern Promises and Locke, and who's set to write the next James Bond film. Peaky Blinders is still the crown jewel of his career.
Steven Knight's next project is titled House of Guinness, and it's set to premiere on Netflix on September 25, 2025. The show will be set in 19th century Dublin and New York, centered around the titular Guinness family following the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, who inherited the Guinness Brewery and became the richest man in Ireland.
The logline for the show details that it will follow "the far-reaching impact of his will on the fate of his four adult children Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben," evidently creating a Succession-like family drama.

Dakota Fanning has been in the industry since a young child, starring in productions such as I Am Sam, Charlotte's Web, The Secret Life of Bees, and Coraline. While her performances in those were exceptional, many fans of her generation remember her as Jane Volturi, a guard of the Volturi (a royal vampire family) in The Twilight Saga. Unlike some actors, Fanning seems to like being involved in a wide variety of projects in different genres. Her latest role is in the upcoming Peacock mystery thriller, All Her Fault, which stars Sarah Snook (Succession) playing a mom living in a parent's worst nightmare.
According to the official press release, Snook will play Marissa Irvine, a mom who "arrives to collect her young son Milo from his first playdate, but the woman who answers the door isn't a mother she recognizes. She doesn't have Milo and has never heard of him.

After the Succession series finale in 2023, creator Jesse Armstrong was happy to step away from the high-pressure world of producing award-winning TV (75 Emmy nominations, 19 wins). He passed his time noodling at a novel and penning the occasional book review for The Times of London. But, as he explains to The Hollywood Reporter, one of those book reviews sent him down a tech-world rabbit hole — and out the other end, in record time, came Mountainhead.
Emmy-nominated for outstanding TV movie, the 2024 HBO feature follows a boys-will-be-boys ski weekend. Only these boys — played by Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith and Ramy Youssef — are the richest men in Silicon Valley. The results are dark, nasty and wincingly hilarious; in other words, everything you’d expect from an Armstrong production.

Two years after the end of Succession, we're more than ready to see Sarah Snook back on TV again. Luckily for us, Peacock is about to release a new series with Snook in the lead, playing opposite none other than Dakota Fanning (The Perfect Couple). All Her Fault is a new thriller series that centers around a woman living every parent's worst nightmare. In order to tease the new show, Peacock unveiled a first-look image and revealed when we can expect to check it out: the series is set to start rolling out episodes this November.
You don't even need to watch a trailer to understand the situation of Marissa Irvine (Snook). It’s been over two years since “Succession” signed off, and now Sarah Snook is making her return to television. Above is a first look of her in the new Peacock drama “All Her Fault,” based on Andrea Mara’s 2021 novel of the same name. The show will premiere its first four episodes on November 6, with two episodes each dropping the following two weeks, to wrap on November 20.
It seems like a good thing this release is compressed, because this show looks like a masterclass in anxiety. As in Mara’s novel, Snook will play Marissa, a mom who arrives to pick up her son Milo from his first-ever play date. When the door opens, the woman greeting her is not at all the mother of Milo’s friend Marissa’s expecting — and she’s never even heard of Milo at all. As the official logline reads, “And so begins every parent’s worst nightmare.

Jeremy Strong had an annoying habit that even challenged his co-stars to work with him in Succession. The hit show has earned Kendall Roy a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama, respectively.
But several complaints can be heard about Jeremy Strong being too coercive and harsh in his skill of ‘method acting’ on the sets of Succession. In Town & Country’s March 2023 cover story, his fellow co-star and father in the show, Brian Cox, who portrays Logan Roy, opened up about his thoughts and feelings on Strong’s method acting skills, saying,
“Oh, it’s f**king annoying. Don’t get me going on it.”
But does his nature of input to his role make him the perfect embodiment of Kendall Roy, or is it just a way that Jeremy Strong rehearses for his roles?...

Emmy-nominated writer Kim Rosenstock posed a provocative question to a eclectic group of playwrights-turned-tv writers who joined her at the latest edition of Proper Presents: Deadline Dinners: Have you ever been asked to explain your show’s tone?
To kick off the night that’s designed to foster candid, intimate conversations among storytellers, Rosenstock explained that while doing press for Dying for Sex she was asked by reporters to talk about the show’s tone. As a playwright (she penned the 2013 play Tigers Be Still) who holds an Mfa in playwriting from Yale School of Drama, she said the question of tone rarely came up when being asked about her plays. “So I don’t always know what that means,” she said.
That spawned a lively discussion among Rosenstock’s many guests at the Deadline event that took place at the Santa Monica Proper hotel.

Discovery CEO David Zaslav has confirmed the news during the company’s most recent earnings call (via Collider). While the series will follow the structure of J.K. Rowling‘s original seven books, it will span a full decade. That means some seasons may be extended, split, or expanded with new materials.
Cinematographer Adriano Goldman confirmed that Season 1 will include eight episodes. Best known for his work in The Crown and Andor, he will lead the first two and final two episodes.
The show is being led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Succession) and director Mark Mylod. The full production is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., where the original movies were shot. The production team spent 18 weeks in pre-production (via movieweb).

Taylor Swift’s feature-length directional debut remains in active development at Searchlight Pictures, and according to a new update from Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, the pop star has begun working with Alice Birch on the film’s script.
Birch, a British playwright and screenwriter, is best known for her acclaimed television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People, as well as for developing the Prime Video series Dead Ringers starring Rachel Weisz. She also contributed to Season 2 of Succession and co-wrote the upcoming feature film Die, My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence.
Per Sneider, while Swift penned the film’s original screenplay, Birch has been brought on to assist with rewrites, “working closely with Swift and ‘tailoring’ the project to her creative vision.”
In true Swift fashion, the film remains tightly under wraps — with no title, release date, or plot details revealed.
