MTV’s show Floribama Shore’s star Kirk Medas died on May 2 at 33 years old due to liver failure.

Floribama Shore, a spinoff of The Jersey Shore reality series that ran from 2017 to 2021, featured Medas as one of the show’s favorite members among fans and cast members alike. He was on the show for 25 episodes from 2017 to 2020.

Medas had been in the intensive care unit for almost a month prior to his death, hospitalized “fighting necrotizing pancreatitis.”

Before Medas died, several of his co-stars advocated for a GoFundMe to help pay for his medical bills. Co-star Aimee Hall posted to Instagram in support of Medas, writing, “Our friend Kirk has been in the ICU for over two weeks now, battling a severe case of necrotizing pancreatitis. He’s currently on a ventilator, and the situation is incredibly serious.”

Kirk Medas, a reality star who appeared on MTV/s Floribama Shore, has passed away after he was hospitalized with a “severe case of necrotizing pancreatitis” last month, according to various outlets.

He was 33 years old.

Medas’ dad told celebrity gossip website TMZ that physicians said Medas died from liver failure.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Kirk Medas, a beloved member of the Floribama Shore family. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans during this difficult time,” an MTV spokesperson said in a statement to People Magazine on Friday, May 2.

Floribama Shore will not be returning to MTV.

The cabler has announced it will not proceed with the reality series's fifth season.

However, Deadline notes that "the future of the series is being evaluated" by the network.

Whether that means the show could end up at another outlet down the line, we don't know, but for now, the series is over.

Footage was shot at star Nilsa Prowant's wedding last year, which was said to be used in a fifth season.

TMZ reports that the series was set to return to filming earlier this year, but that it had been pushed back to Covid-19.

Now, there's no telling whether that footage will ever see the light of day.

Some of the cast members hinted there was unrest earlier this month when they shared Tweets that seemingly alleged they had yet to be paid by either the network or production company.

The Floribama Shore is closed for the foreseeable future: MTV has decided not to move forward with a fifth season of the reality series, at least for now, according to our sister site Deadline, who adds that “the future of the series is being evaluated” by the network.

An offshoot of MTV’s reality juggernaut Jersey Shore, Floribama Shore debuted in 2017 and followed eight friends who live together in a summer house on the Florida Panhandle. The action moved to St. Pete Beach, Florida in Season 3, and then to Montana and Lake Havasu for Season 4, which wrapped up in December.

Exclusive: Scout Productions, the company behind Netflix’s hit unscripted series Queer Eye, is bolstering its executive ranks.

The company has promoted Renata Lombardo and hired John Wehage from 495 Productions.

Lombardo becomes SVP, Development and Current Non-Scripted Programming, while Wehage joins from SallyAnn Salsano’s company as EVP, Production and Operations.

Wehage will report to Scout’s President, Eric Korsh, and Lombardo will continue to report to Rob Eric, Scout’s Chief Creative Officer.

It comes as the company recently scored a third season renewal for HBO Max vogue competition Legendary and its fashion competition series The Hype recently launched on the streamer. It is also behind Disney+’s upcoming series The Quest.

The hire comes as the Discovery joint venture has been stepping up its push into reality programming with a slew of orders and renewals over the last twelve months and after it expanded its Saturday unscripted programming block to Fridays last year.

Tappon joins OWN from 495 Productions where he was Chief Creative Officer overseeing its slate of shows including Peace of Mind with Taraji P. Henson, Jersey Shore, Floribama Shore, A Double Shot at Love and Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.

Prior to 495 Productions, Tappon worked at A&e, Warner Horizon Television and MTV.

In his new role, Tappon will develop unscripted content across all genres for the cabler. He will report to Tina Perry, president of OWN. He takes over the role from Robyn Lattaker-Johnson, who departed OWN in April.

“Drew is one of the most talented creatives in the industry having developed and produced some of the biggest unscripted hits on television,” said Perry. “I am beyond excited to have him join OWN to bring his expertise to our growing lineup of dynamic series.”

Tappon joins OWN from 495 Productions where he was chief creative officer. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing all creative elements for the company, the slate of which includes shows like “Jersey Shore,” “Floribama Shore,” “Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party,” and “Double Shot at Love.
