Hilarious

I've seen some reviews stating it is 'painfully obvious' that the show is scripted. Lol thanks for that captain obvious! If people do not like this I can only assume they are lacking in a sense of humour. I however, have laughed out loud numerous times. Maybe I just appreciate the dry British humour that I have always loved. Fantastic show.

Retitle the show

It should be called "Michael Whitehall- Travels with my son". Michael is utterly brilliant. Jack's getting there, though....

Interesting diversion

Watched all six episodes in one day, having never been hugely familiar with Jack and Michael Whitehall prior. Liked the series for a number of reasons, not least that in the main, it avoided going to many of the obvious tourist attractions. It was well filmed too. The banter and relationship between father and soon, was initially highly amusing, though last some of its sharpness as the series progressed, before delivering some quite serious and touching messages at the end. Parts were clearly quite heavily staged and we could have easily done without the rather sorry driving lesson towards the end of the series, which was all too obviously planned for effect. Far more entertaining and informed than the vast majority of so called reality series, that proliferate our screens today.

Loved it!

Don't pay attention to the bad reviews. I loved Travels With My Father. I thoroughly enjoyed every episode. So what if some of it may have been scripted. Each episode made me laugh out loud. I loved the dynamics between Jack and his dad. The places they visited were gorgeous, at times hilarious, interesting, and tragic. The last scene of the last episode actually brought tears to my eyes. Jack and his dad really love each other. I really hope there are more seasons to come.

Obviously scripted at times but still funny.

I was pleasantly surprised by this series as I'm not really a big fan of Jack Whitehall (he is no Ricky Gervais) but his dad, Michael, I found hilarious. This grumpy old Aristocrat being "forced" to be open minded and trying new this is really funny. Watched the series in one day and hope for a season two!

Started off great!

First season and even parts of the second series is very funny. Then... unfortunately, it became more forced. I haven't bothered finishing the fourth series because it is more obviously scripted and trying too hard.

First two seasons are great. Third season is crap

I loved the first two seasons were amazing, they felt really endearing and real. Their father and son grew their relationship, it felt like something I would love to do with my father. They have a great back and forth, with the son not understanding the father, and the father being stuck in his ways. They had something of a real competition between them on who could find what the other would enjoy. It felt like a real thing between them. The third season feels completely fabricated and scripted. You can literally see where they edited out the moments the other missed the line. There's some great lines in the third season, but the charm of it is gone. I'm not expecting it to ever bring back the magic of the first two seasons.

One of the funniest shows in years.

This is a television show, off course it is scripted. Jack and his Daddy are not aimlessly wandering around South East Asia. The episodes are all planned as are many of the reactions to things they encounter. However they have still managed to produce an extremely funny and entertaining show. Michael portrays a character who comes from a bygone generation, who displays the good old British, "stiff upper lip" and has an air of superiority to others around him. I suspect this is not who he really is. Hopefully there will be a second series.

Trying too hard.

James May once said that he, Richard Hammond, and Jeremy Clarkson were successful as a presenting team for lots of very complicated reasons that nobody understood. Perhaps, then, the makers of "Travels With My Father" should have tried a less Top-Gear like format of scripted/pre-planned "comedy" moments, because in the absence of the magical Clarkson-Hammond-May chemistry, this series feels desperately set-up, forced, and uncomfortable.

The awkwardness between Whitehall and Whitehall is perhaps the only thing that seems to be occurring naturally, but within this miasma of embarrassment and discomfort, the two squirming presenters are forced to bicker and bumble their way through a Top Gear-styled adventure, but without benefit of cars or Andy Wilman.

The result is a travelogue which could have been interesting, except that dozens of better men have taken us on more interesting adventures already, or entertaining, except that Clarkson, Hammond, and May have got that covered.

It's hard to know what this show is offering that is in any way fresh, illuminating, amusing, or noteworthy.

The concept seemed neat. It piqued my interest enough to start watching, but not enough to last to the end of episode one. I would have stayed with it if I'd felt that it was a genuine documentary following two interesting people through the ups and downs of an unlikely and ill-conceived journey. But it wasn't.

If only the comedy had occurred organically... If only the dialogue had been unscripted... If only everyone involved had been a little less desperate... Oh well.

Highly Amusing Entertainment and Bickering!

Do you have someone in your life who does not want to do anything outside of their comfort zone? If so, imagine that person's qualities quantified by ten and you have Michael "Daddy" Whitehall.

Jack Whitehall, British comedian and actor, travels with his father across the world, but they are very different human beings. Jack loves to party, laugh and is very immature while Michael is proper, dignified and horrified at anything slightly foreign. Michael is not too proper though, he loves to cuss and it is so hilarious to watch someone so old and pessimistic curse with such vile in their voice.

Michael has so many eccentric qualities: he loves Churchill with a passion, loves strange articles of clothing and seems completely unaware of his close-minded views of others. Jack constantly calls attention to these traits and it is outrageously funny to see their bickering. Michael is easily the greatest part of the show; his son Jack is far too annoying and he tries to be overly comedic.

While Jack is very annoying and almost hard to watch at times, the show gives most of the attention to Michael and their travels. I love to travel and learn; this is what this show accomplishes best. They go to interesting locales, specifically in the first two seasons that I have never heard of.

The quality of the series begins to decline when the format changes from 5-6 30 min episodes to 2 1 hour episodes per season. The earlier seasons were shot over a longer duration of time, but the last two were not and I did not feel as if Michael's heart was truly involved as he is a few years older. The show is still quite hilarious (Michael still makes fun of Jack's endowment), but I do not think any future season can quite capture the magic of the earlier ones.

I still highly recommend the show! I was belly laughing from some of the jokes! Please watch the show and I assure you it will be worth your time!!!

Fun

Some people need to get the stick out of their butts and just enjoy silly humor for what it is. Entertaining and funny, as a TV show should be

Hilarious AF

I just finished watching season 1 and 3. This is really very funny. and Micheal is the cutest. I wish I could travel like that with my family or have even half as much as fun as these two have while I'm travelling with them. You, Jack, are actually very lucky to have such a cool father with you, as young and hearty as ever.

I like how different this show is, how weird the travels are. I mean these guys do the things I'd never do while travelling to the places they travelled to. But then it's not about travelling. It's about bonding, isn't it? I wonder the last time I did something for 5 straight weeks just to bond with somebody.

Funny, but somewhat misleading...

This is a good enough way to kill a few hours, sure, but it is so painfully obvious that 95% of it is scripted that it almost burns! They may as well have added a laugh track instead of insulting people's intelligence by making out this is an unscripted, true-to-life account of a father & son trip to Asia.

It's a funny enough show, which is entertaining and, as I said earlier, it kills the time if it's midday and you're getting picked up in the mid afternoon with nothing to do until then, but don't go in thinking you'll see natural, unplanned and timely comedic mishaps, as everything was planned ahead; it's so obvious to the point that it actually ruins it.

Started strong, ended very weak

Such a shame. The first two seasons (and arguably bits of the third) are absolutely hilarious. The most recent forth season released on Netflix a few days ago is shockingly bad, filmed like a one of those repulsive Made in Chelsea or TOWIE shows. Forced, scripted and not even remotely funny. A real shame as I loved the first two seasons and would recommend anyone to watch them. So please check those out, just give the latest season a miss.

Funny but ...

Scripted or not, I loved season 1 and enjoyed many belly-laughs throughout. Season 2 had its moments as well. I've had a few laughs in Season 3 but I don't feel that 2 episodes can be described as a season.

Very funny

And of course it is scripted... who cares! Anyone who thinks any reality show is not heavily edited to tell the story the producers want, if not fully scripted lives in la-la land.

This show is worth watching.

Jack is funny at times but too annoying/disrespectful to others!

I have absolutely loved watching this series'

I started at Series 5 aa it was advertised, which I loved then thought I'd start from the begining at Series 1

First thing I thought was odd is that Jack still calls his mum and dad "mummy" and "daddy" and thus is a little bit embarrassing when he meets new people on this show

Second I have howled at some of his silly, funny jokes but as I'm going through the series' he becomes less funny & more annoying.

The way he talks to the people he meets is so cringe worthy, always gives the big I Am.

And it's just not fun to watch.

However I do love the concept of the father/son travelling and I do believe they have a genuine bond and its lovely to see it bloom.

I think Jack Whitehall is a bit like Marmite, love him or hate him!

Overall I have enjoyed and never laughed so much in one sitting. I would recommend but stop being so disrespectful/annoying!
