Epic action movie with an overdose of twists and turns

War is an Indian action-thriller about a soldier who has to eliminate his former mentor who has gone rogue and starts assassinating influential targets around the world for mysterious reasons.

The movie convinces on numerous levels. The story comes around with numerous surprising twists and turns that will keep the spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end. Most of the characters have interesting background stories, convictions and motives which make the two lead characters progressively more profound as the movie unfolds in particular. The action scenes are spectacular and vary from explosive car chases to combats in an old church that has fallen into disrepair. The special effects have been designed with care as the camera work and light techniques are very solid except from one unnecessarily nauseating scene in a conference room. The beautiful locations and settings are very colourful and vary from India over Italy to the Arctic Circle.

On the negative side, the first half of the movie has a confusing chronological order and constantly switches from past to present and back again when a smoother chronological structure would have been much easier to understand. The movie includes two completely unnecessary dance choreographies that harm the movie's flow, contradict the tense atmosphere and look mildly amusingly amateurish. Some plot elements are a little bit over-the-top and it feels as if the scriptwriters had tried to include ideas for three movies into one single film which make the movie slightly overloaded. Some acting performances are rather wooden such as Vaani Kapoor's who was probably chosen for her role because of her elegant physical appearance but is lacking elementary acting skills.

Still, War is a very entertaining action-thriller of epic proportions that improves steadily until a gripping finale. Anyone who likes action films, spy flicks or thrillers should give this dynamic movie a try. Fans of the Bourne trilogy, the Fast and the Furious franchise and the xXx films might discover a wonderful hidden gem here.

Hrithik redefined who he is.

7 for Hrithik and 1 for everything else. One of the most entertaining action packed movie made in Hindi Cinema including movies around the world where individuals are involved in actions not everything beside them.

Bollywood has now Raised the Bar in Action!

Finally a Bollywood movie, that can seriously draw comparisons with Hollywood flicks here!

A well executed piece of Action art that seriously surpassed my expectations! Considering the budget and the technology Bollywood have in hands ; this surely set the standards few notches up. The casting of Hrithik and Tiger made it much appealing too! They duly justified their respective roles. Locations, Cinematography, CGI all looked pretty good considering it's Bollywood. It's still not close of Hollywood regarding the Action pieces but I must admit it surprised me a lot with what it already had.

My complaints aren't in the execution or efforts of the makers but the Weaker Screenplay and Lack of character development here. Well there are numerous Flaws in in too alongside some typically over the top dramatized scenes. But those didn't bother me much! I expected a lot more depth and seriousness from the writing. Inclusion of unnecessary comedic elements or dialogues didn't help at all building up the story. We should have had Tension riling up in relevance to the strong premise it had but it rather became a Action Showcase where there's little to none severity.

I actually couldn't really feel the stakes here, And the weak writing was the cause of it. Storyline was Generic and predictable as usual but the ending twist shocked me to be honest! I never saw it coming.

It's not a film for everyone although We must appreciate what the makers have intended to do But the weaker prospect in Writing, Screenplay and character development ressisted me to "Love" it in the end.

So overall it's an One time watch but A really good one in that! Pure entertainer for the Action Lovers and yeah a Treat for hardcore Hrithik Fans.

Really Great Movie

War

A really great Bollywood movie from start to finish it had the lot, labyrinthine plot, betrayal, treason, corruption brilliant action sequences and amazing dancing. On top of all this we had abs a plenty, no six packs they were eights or tens at least.

Tremendous form over substance

WAR - When the best intelligence service agent Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) goes rogue, his most able protege Khalid (Tiger Shroff) must step in to nab him. War is about why Kabir has gone rogue and what point Khalid has to prove, that will dovetail into a mouth watering duel between the industry's two best action heroes, unfolding on screen.

Director Siddharth Anand repeats the feat from Bang Bang, taking us on a globe trotting tour from Delhi to Malta, Morocco, Iraq, Portugal, Italy and finally the Arctic Circle (keeping Australia as the final cherry topping). War showcases some mind numbing, yet prolonged action and chase sequences that often start with us gawking, and then turn into "oh, come on now!" exclamations, testing our patience often. Both male leads put up their smug best faces, and while Hrithik gets a few opportunities to emote, Tiger manages to retain a deadpan expression barring the introduction sequence. But there's nothing to mind as War promised to be a lavishly mounted, high octane, glossy and technically superlative thriller, which it pretty much fulfills, leaving little or no opportunity for emotive skills. The action is exaggerated, but then with Hrithik and Tiger, you obviously didn't expect a love story to take home fond memories either. There's a particular fight sequence that is remarkable, where you can almost draw a comparison with a musical symphony, both the stars complementing each other as if a melifluous duet were being rendered. In contrast, the climax action sequence is gigantic, crude, bloody and violent. Watching them both execute "Jai Jai Shiv Shankar" in a song and dance is like human body in visual poetry, malleable and fluid - it's all paisa vasool stuff.

So coming back to the verdict, War is a superlative action thriller that reinforces Hrithik Roshan's capabilities as the best action hero India has, as well as catapults Tiger Shroff into the big league. It's a treat for fans. On the story front, there's enough spice and suspense as pieces slowly fall into place and characters reveal their true identities. But it isn't impactful enough as neither the characters have any depth nor does the screenplay leave any impression. It's all glitz, action and glamour without substance.

A decent Bollywood action movie.

War is nothing Bollywood has never seen before. It has good action, visual effects, directing, acting, cliche Bollywood masala songs and decent writing under one roof. There are a few good twists and turns throughout the movie which are both predictable and unpredictable. The VFX is very good and the bgm is also very good which helps the overall tone of the film. Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff rocked in the leading roles and Vaani Kapoor gave a good performance in her small screen space. This is a movie which is taken like Mission Impossible and Fast and Furious which also has a few Bollywood masala. Overall, War is a good action thriller popcorn fun.

Well finally a well directed Hindi Action

After a long time I have seen a hindi film that has well directed action sequence which maintained law of physics in most of the part except two or three minutes. The film has lots of lots twist which you will love. The best part is that you will not feel bore during the movie. It is a action movie and it maintained it status too. Both Tiger and Hrithik share good bond in the movie which I love the most. It one word it is a complete page that you should watch.

WAR .. Not a War. Just a Gimmick

All the 6 stars for Hrithik. Tiger Shroff was poker face. Copy paste some Hollywood action movies & some stories. Here is whitewash war.

All was cake walk. Character artist were all side lined and miscast. No proper continuity bad screenplay. Makers made sure to give spotlights to only Hrithik and tiger.

Some enjoyable moments in first hour. Rest it was suffocating. All the bike and car chase scene were stupidly placed in the movie.

All Style and No Substance.

To say that War has a wafer-thin plot is an understatement. War has a lot of visual appeal but the all style and no substance approach makes this 2 hours 36 minutes film a real drag. DISAPPOINTING!

It isn't completely unwatchable, but it certainly tests your patience. How many times have you ordered a dish that looks terrific photographed in a menu but disappoints when it shows up on the table? War is that kind of meal and a golden opportunity lost. It has two handsome leads, some eye-popping stunt scenes (Paul Jennings, Franz Spilhaus, Oh Sea Young & Parvez Shaikh) and a slew of beautiful locales. It would take an especially awful script & an incompetent director to deliver a mess out of those ingredients. Everything here is laid out crystal clear at the lowest common denominator. Sure enough, the film packs enough twists & turns. But those particular twists are so ludicrous that it is hard to imagine someone could still be thinking in such formulaic ways. Abbas Tyrewala's dialogues are so clunky, they make you cringe. Director Siddharth Anand, the man who gave us such excruciating films as Tara Rum Pum, Anjaana Anjaani & Bang Bang, applies the same pedestrian sensibilities to what could've been a slick enjoyable romp.

Siddharth Anand & Aditya Chopra's story rests on the assumption of suspension of belief. The film is weighed down by a teary familial back-story and a major twist that anyone who's watched even three masala potboilers can predict from a mile away. It's a pity to see a production house of the stature of YRF go down the same path again and again. And yet if there's one reason to watch War, it's Hrithik Roshan. He's charming, charismatic & appears to be having a good time. Here's a movie star who actually looks like he could pull off those action scenes for real. Vaani Kapoor is wasted. Soni Razdan is Perfect. Ashutosh Rana is dependable as always. Arif Zakaria, Swaroopa Ghosh (Sherna Patel), Dipannita Sharma, Anupria Goenka are just fine in their respective roles. Tiger Shroff can dance effortlessly, fight in style and charm the audiences. But what one really needs to applaud is the way he carries the film. His role in War seems to be a hundred notches ahead of what he did in his previous movies.

For the most part War is all action, no talk. Its pace remains inconsistent. At times, it runs very slow but catches up with the action sequences that follow. Overall, the star cast will ensure that the movie sails through comfortably at the box-office. Skip it!

Hrithik is back. Action Packed Film but bit Lenghty - itsbymayank

Another Unofficial Remake or Inspired/Same Kinda Story(with lots of changes) of Vivegam a South Movie. After Dhoom franchie in this Hrithik is back. Those who was a fan of Hrithik Roshan will enjoy after long time. Maybe the Writer heard or watched Vivegam then started writing this story and put Bollywood masala in it and makes movies with lots changes.. Action packed, Some Scenes are like you can't digest, Bit Lenghty, Story is Good, after a long time yrf brings good action film. I'm not talking about tiger shroff just because he is same as usual like all his other movies, nothing new. We was four who went for movie and one of us find the movie confusing i mean not in perfect way. Even i can say action scenes are indigestible and some movie scenes and concept are too.. But The war is still on. - Review by itsbymayank - Mayank Bharat Bhushan Louteriya

Not good enough!

I am a Hrithik Roshan myself, but movie doesn't fit right in any scenario. Story wasn't strong, Tiger's expressions were the same as they are from last couple of years. Hrithik tried to do a tremendous job here, but maybe I am being biased about Hrithik. All over, movie doesn't worth it to spend your money. You can watch it on amazon prime video after 2-3 months. Or on star plus after 6 months with your whole family. That'll save you some money. Go and watch joker.

Slick Bollywood Action after a long time.

My Rating : 6/10

Great mindless entertainment geared to the mass audience - leave your brains at home and have a blast.

This is how movies would be if made like video games. 'War' is disposable entertainment of the highest order.

This movie should get a sequel..

Nothing much to say about it, just drag ur body to a big screen and watch it ,you won't get a second chance to watch these 2 actors together in such a well directed movie with sleek visuals... This movie is everything that recent high budget movies wanted to be...

Only for bluff audience

The movie is good and the action scenes is mind blowing its not like "sahoo" in which lots of action and no story line up. The "War" have good story line as well se good direction but the main problem is lenght of this movie and if you are action love then you love this movie but if you want mind blowing twist and all then this movie little bit disappoint you. The movie lead character is Hritik Roshan he is awesome his body, action everything is mind blowing and the tiger shorff is also good but not in acting only in fight sequence and vani kapoor why she is in the film at last if you find logic please don't think about logic lets enjoy the movie that's it

Not that good - not that bad

A nice action movie, that's it. The scenes are taking full advantage of both the actors as was expected. Songs are okay. Dance is nice. Action is better than regular bollywood.

Terrible Music blasting Slow motion Acrobatics movie

The base plot of the movie is alright and had potential but the execution.

Every second they could you had a good long stare between 2 or at one point 3 actors with music blasting in the background for no reason. That time would've been better spent developing another character which played a big role in the movies plot.

The action sequences were nothing but unnecessary acrobatics. In fact the whole movie went for eye candy over substance.

The twist at the end negates a lot of the movie and makes previously gone scenes senseless. What little feel the movie had was destroyed by this.

The action entertainer we all deserved!

Mindblowing performances and top-notch action, this is by far one of the best in Indian cinema and will set higher standards. Coupled with an intelligent script, great background score and beautiful locations, and some perfectly timed humour, this movie is a delight to watch. The storyline is not boring even for a second and will keep you on the edge of your seats. Hrithik owns the movie but the others performed so well. Tiger has got his presence felt alongside Hrithik, which is commendable!

Being a forever Hrithik fan, what else could I ask for! I'm gonna watch it again in the theatre and you all should not give it a miss. Go watch!

If you can hire such talented & expensive actors, in my thoughts you should use that money in hiring atleast a good story or a content writer. This movie shows the world how inept the Indian Cinema is.

The eye candy we have been waiting for

Oh come on, admit it.. everyone drools at Hritik. And adding Tiger Shroff is just a plus point to the movie. LOL to people who expected anything other than this. But surprisingly, the movie has a fairly decent storyline as per Bollywood standards. Now, don't go all Shawshank redemption on me. And the action is also good. All in all, a watchable movie.
