The Breeding

I read the description and could see a world of possibilities. Starting the film I saw it was only an hour and half long and was suspicious as to how much it could do in such a limit time. It starts out slow and some of the beginning seems irrelevant. Then it gets into the true premise of the film, but never explains the motivation of the characters. It seems to be more of a movie about modern gay culture specifically causal physical relations with unknown guys met on the internet or what would be a passing encounter in person. The description of a guy wants to explore race play and gets more than he bargains for, isn't wrong but the first half hour has nothing to do with that, the last hour yes in a way but it felt more of a neurotic narcissism than a racial sexual fetish. Would have been better if they developed the characters and motives more, help the viewer understand both sides because both made a choice to become involved in that situation.

The current IMDB rating (4.8) would have you believe this is an unimportant indie film, and while I found it odd and frustrating at first, I would have to say this is an underestimated (and therefore underrated) piece of art.

It's also a timely portrait and a product of racial bias, gay culture and political climate. For that reason I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in broadening their scope and expanding the parameters of their understanding of current events pertaining to race and LGBTQ+ issues.

When it comes to HOT erotic gay movies, this tops the charts! A gorgeous black man in search of fulfilling raw black/white sex....and the movie doesn't try to hide it. The main characters "confession" of his sexual fantasy even has a priest getting very hot and bothered. The camera work is masterful. Just enough to excite the viewer. It is not pornographic at all. It is tasteful and artistic. Very few gay movies are this daring, provocative and down right erotic. I give the writers, directors, actors and cameramen kudos for pulling this off! Wish there were more gay films like this.

As a theme the search by an attractive black guy for his own racial and sexual subjugation is nasty enough. Unfortunately the poor acting just exacerbated the deficiencies of the whole project. And one of these deficiencies was that it was "arty" for its own sake. Nothing wrong with artiness as long as it's used to bring some flair or new ideas or outlook. That wasn't the case here. Moreover it was totally unerotic.

For those advocating seeing this film as a means of understanding the contemporary gay scene i can only say that this is nonsense. The fetish portrayed here is an extremely minority one and would repel the vast majority of people on the scene or not.

Horrible film and horrid subject matter. Don't go there would be my advice.
