Alfie Wise, the actor who showed up in Smokey and the Bandit, The Cannonball Run and eight other films with his fun-loving pal Burt Reynolds, has died. He was 82.

Wise died July 22 of natural causes at Thomas H. Corey Va Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, his longtime fiancée, Stephanie Bliss, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Wise played a trooper in the prison-set The Longest Yard (1974), his first onscreen collaboration with Reynolds, and he worked with the movie star in The End (1978), Hooper (1978), Starting Over (1979), Paternity (1981), Stroker Ace (1983), City Heat (1984) and Heat (1986) as well.

The 5-foot-5 Wise also was the butt of Reynolds’ jokes as marina owner Oliver Wardell on all 12 episodes of the 1989-90 ABC crime series B.L Stryker, and he appeared on a 1991 installment of Reynolds’ longer-lasting CBS sitcom, Evening Shade.

Great views yield excellent box office. Despite a theatrical day and date release on HBO Max, Mortal Kombat opened to a robust $23.3M over April 23-25, 2021; that was about on par to the unadjusted 1995 opening of the first movie which did $23.2M.

The Mummy is set to rise from its tomb once again, with director Lee Cronin taking the helm of a new movie from Blumhouse/Atomic Monster. Now, the Evil Dead Rise filmmaker has announced that principal photography is "all wrapped up.".

Cronin also shared the first behind-the-scenes photo from the movie's set. Although it's not particularly revealing, it does give us a look at the project's official logo on the back of a director's chair along with what appears to be the titular monster's resting place.

Nick Jonas, one of the famous siblings of the pop rock boy band The Jonas Brothers, has landed a role in the upcoming Kiss biopic. The artist is currently in negotiations to sign up for the musical project titled Shout It Out Loud, which is being directed by McG and written by Darren Lemke. Jonas is set to play Paul Stanley (known as the Starchild), Kiss' frontman, alongside Gene Simmons (a.k.a. the Demon).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons are involved in the music biopic, which is under development with the team at Universal Music that controls the rights related to the rock band's music. Jody Gerson and Bruce Resnikoff have joined Polygram's David Blackman as producers. STX Entertainment is the backing studio behind Shout It Out Loud. Other producers include McG, Mark Canton, Doc McGhee, Leigh Ann Burton, and Mary Viola.

In unexpected casting, Nick Jonas will apply the Starchild makeup and strap on the guitar to portray Paul Stanley in an upcoming Kiss biopic.

According to Deadline, Jonas will also provide his own vocals on Kiss’ Stanley-sung classics in Shout It Out Loud, an authorized, McG-directed biopic about the Rock Hall-inducted rock legends that is co-produced by Stanley and Gene Simmons.

As part of their summer movie previews, Entertainment Weekly, ScreenRant, and Empire have shared new stills from Jurassic World Rebirth, offering a killer new look at the franchise's newest leading lady Scarlett Johansson, who plays covert operations expert Zora Bennett, doing her best to survive all kinds of dino carnage.

Aside from a handful of brief glimpses, the early images from the film reveal remarkably few dinosaurs—likely because the production is keeping the Distortus rex and any other mutant dinos on the island tightly under wraps, so we'll just have to strap in this Fourth of July for all kinds of mayhem.

Aaron Eckhart is heading to the sky. The fan-favorite actor, who has become a mainstay in the action genre in recent years, is set to star in the plane thriller Midair.

According to Deadline, Midair will begin filming this September from a screenplay written by George Mahaffey, who previously penned Eckhart's 2024 action thriller Chief of Station. Universal Pictures has released an awesome new TV spot for Jurassic World Rebirth, teasing some of the most dangerous dinosaurs the franchise has ever put on screen.

In terms of what dangerous dinos we can expect, the trailers have teased that the fan-favorite Tyrannosaurus Rex will be front-and-center once again, this time finally taking part in the long-awaited riverboat chase, which is expected to be one of the film's standout sequences.

The following have also been spotted and/or are expected to make an appearance: Aquilops, Ankylosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Mosasaurus, Parasaurolophus, Quetzalcoatlus, Spinosaurus, Titanosaurus, Triceratops, and Velociraptor.

Universal Pictures has released a brand new featurette for their upcoming summer blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, featuring some never-before-seen new footage and revealing how the new film is more connected to the original than any of the previous sequels.

Outside of the main cast of characters returning to Isla Nublar - the island where the original film takes place - the most prominent way the film connects back to the original is by bringing back Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp.

In the new featurette, Koepp teases the T-Rex riverboat sequence, which promises to be one of the upcoming film's most thrilling moments and a scene that has has essentially been thirty years in the making.

Falcón recently appeared in Blumhouse’s supernatural thriller Imaginary, directed by Jeff Wadlow, and also played “Trader Sam” opposite Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson in Disney’s Jungle Cruise. Other notable film credits include The Starling, Days of Grace, Voyagers opposite Colin Farrell, and The Forever Purge.

Netflix has become home to the 2019 war epic, Midway, which has been garnering popularity over the last few weeks. The film is based on the six months between WWII's infamous Pearl Harbor attack and the Battle of Midway that occurred around the Midway Atoll and was a turning point in the war that turned the tides in the U.S.'s favor. Roland Emmerich's Midway, which is a remake of Henry Fonda and Charlton Heston's movie of the same name, succeeds in paying tribute to the past by presenting multiple sides to the conflict, from the pains of strategy to the breathlessness of the sky.

Though we weren't aware of this until very recently, there's been growing online support for Brandon Sklenar to play the Dark Knight in the upcoming Dcu The Brave and the Bold Movie, and the fan campaign was recently given a major boost thanks to the actor's It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively sharing her endorsement.

Now, Sklenar has liked and commented on some fan-art depicting him as the Caped Crusader.

Despite speculation that The Batman star Robert Pattinson could end up jumping to the Dcu to play the legendary Gotham City vigilante in The Brave and the Bold, director Andy Muschietti confirmed that a new actor will be cast as the hero during a recent interview.

"As everyone knows, the Batman featured in The Brave and the Bold will belong to the new DC universe. It’s quite obvious that Matt Reeves’ Batman is not part of this new universe.

The MCU is a particularly notable example of the success of action franchises. Of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time, three of them are MCU films. Another successful action franchise from the 2000s has found one of its entries on the streaming charts recently.
