Eminem will co-produce a documentary called Stans about superfans, exploring the relationship between fame and super fandom. The documentary will be a revealing and personal journey into the world of superfandom, focusing on Eminem and his fans. Stans will be developed by Shady Films, with planned distribution from Paramount/MTV, and is set to be released later this year.

Acclaimed rapper Eminem will co-produce a documentary all about superfans, also known as ‘Stans,’ for his own Shady Films. According to a report by Variety, Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, whose hugely popular song from 2000, Stan, popularized the term ‘Stan’ for “overzealous or maniacal fans of a celebrity or personality,” will help develop the project with planned distribution from Paramount/MTV.

Will Power’s Fetch Clay, Make Man is coming to Culver City thanks to LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Company and Center Theatre Group.

The play, focused on the unlikely friendship of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali and Hollywood icon Stepin Fetchit, will hit the stage at the Kirk Douglas Theatre from June 25-July 16 with Debbie Allen at the helm in her Ctg directorial debut. Opening night is set for June 25.

The story explores the bond that formed when the two met in the days leading up to one of Ali’s most anticipated fights, with one described as “a vibrant and audacious youth, the other a resentful and widely resented relic — each fighting to form their public personas and shape their legacies amidst the struggle of the Civil Rights Movement of the mid-1960s.”

MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount want to stay in business with the Emmy-winning Antoine Fuqua and his Hill District Media banner. The executive producer of the Paramount+ drama Mayor of Kingstown has signed an overall deal with the studios that will focus on original scripted and unscripted content for TV.

101 Studios will serve as a production partner on all of Fuqua’s projects.

Besides Mayor of Kingstown, Fuqua is also an executive producer on Fox’s The Resident. He most recently directed and executive produced What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali for HBO, which won the 2020 Sports Emmy in the Outstanding Long Sports Documentary category. His latest film, The Guilty, can be found on Netflix while upcoming projects include Emancipation starring Will Smith, Bullet Train with Brad Pitt, a Mike Tyson film, a docuseries about the Lakers, and Shaka: King of the Zula Nation series, among others.

MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount have signed an overall deal with Emmy Award-winning director and producer Antoine Fuqua through his production banner Hill District Media, the companies announced on Tuesday.

The deal comes on the heels of Fuqua’s successful partnership on the Paramount+ hit series “Mayor of Kingstown,” which was the streaming platform’s second most-watched original series and was recently renewed for a second season.

The overall deal will focus primarily on original scripted and unscripted content for television with 101 Studios serving as production partner on all projects.

“Developing a continued partnership with Paramount & 101 Studios is a huge honor and I am looking forward to working together on a new slate of projects” Fuqua said in a statement to TheWrap. “They are great partners to work with on “Mayor of Kingstown,” and share in the vision of what’s to come for Hill District Media.”

Paramount Plus has released the first official trailer for “Infinite,” a star-studded sci-fi thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Antoine Fuqua. Previously slated for a summer blockbuster release this August, the movie became another victim of the theatrical-to-streaming shuffle when Paramount sold the flick to the newly rebranded Viacom CBS streaming service, where it will be available for all subscribers to watch at home on June 10.

Based on D. Eric Maikranz’s 2009 fantasy novel “The Reincarnationist Papers,” “Infinite” follows Evan McCauley (Wahlberg), a self destructive man who is haunted by memories of skills he has never learned and places he has never visited. When he discovers a secret group that call themselves “Infinites,” he learns that his memories are real, but they are from multiple past lives. The Infinites invite Evan into their world, a centuries-old secret society made up of 28 others who are just like him, and he realizes he is not alone.

Exclusive: Apple is to launch a podcast about pop culture icons Siegfried & Roy – marking one of its first major forays into original audio series.

The series has landed at Apple TV+, its television and film division, and will launch on the Apple podcast platform.

It comes at a time where competition is becoming more prevalent in the podcast business with major rival Spotify getting heavily into originals that only live on its platform.

Apple has cautiously dipped its toes into original shows in the past but they have largely been focused around its music platform – The Zane Lowe Podcast Series – or its original television shows such as For All Mankind.

Earlier this month, it unveiled The Line from Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, which will feature an original podcast series and a TV docuseries. The Siegfried & Roy series marks the first major show to come without an immediate television companion.

Antoine Fuqua will direct and produce a film adaptation of the Tennessee Williams’ play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof based on the 2008 Broadway production featuring an all-Black cast.

The Broadway producers Stephen C. Byrd & Alia Jones-Harvey are also aboard the project.

The 2008 staging made history with a sold out 19-week run as the first all African-American production of the Broadway classic as well as the biggest grossing play during that season. Fuqua will produce the film via his production company, Fuqua Films, and Byrd & Jones-Harvey through Front Row Productions.

Casting has not been announced.

Antoine Fuqua will direct and produce a new film adaptation of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning look at greed, family, death and sexual repression.

The “Training Day” and “Magnificent Seven” director will join forces with producers Stephen C. Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey, who backed a 2008 revival of the show that made history with a sold-out 19-week run as the first all-African American production on Broadway. It was also the highest-grossing play during that season.

The show was directed by Debbie Allen and featured Terrence Howard, Anika Noni Rose, Phylicia Rashad and James Earl Jones. The original play centers on Brick, a former athlete turned alcoholic, his sexually frustrated wife Maggie and Big Daddy, the ailing and wealthy family patriarch.

The filmmakers say the movie “will combine elements of the play with new storylines and weave them together to bring the production to the big screen.

Four Seasons Total Landscaping, the innocuous small business in Pennsylvania that shot to prominence when it became the unlikely stage for a press conference fronted by Rudy Giuliani four days after the U.S. presidential election, will be the subject of a feature doc giving a first-hand account of the rollercoaster series of events.

The project – Four Seasons Total Documentary – comes from Christopher Stoudt (Camp Alec) who is teaming with producers Glen Zipper (Undefeated) and Sean Stuart (What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali). Chris Paonessa and Kevin Lincoln are also producers.

Searchlight is developing a feature film centered on Muhammad Ali’s refusal to be inducted into the U.S. Army in 1967 during the Vietnam War, Variety has learned exclusively.

The project is based on Leigh Montville’s “Sting Like a Bee: Muhammad Ali vs. The United States of America.” The book centers on the cultural and political implications of Ali’s refusal of service in the military on the basis of his Islamic beliefs. It also shows the key moments in a life in exile from the ring as he risks losing everything — his boxing license, his career, even his freedom as he’s forced to take a stand in a battle for racial equality.

“The Last Tree” director Shola Amoo has been signed to direct the film from a script by Phillip Howze, whose credits include Netflix’s “Mindhunter” and “The Eddy.” Alix Madigan (Amazon’s “The Lie”) is producing.

Netflix has acquired the worldwide rights to Antoine Fuqua and Jake Gyllenhaal’s package “The Guilty,” a dramatic thriller based on the Danish drama, “Den Skyldige,” directed by Gustav Moller.

“True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote the script. The film will be produced by Gyllenhaal and his Nine Stories partner Riva Marker, along with Fuqua and Kat Samick through his Fuqua Films; Scott Greenberg; Michel Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, David Litvak and Svetlana Metkina for Bold Films; and Amet Entertainment’s David Haring.

The film will take place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center, where call operator Joe Bayler (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger. However, he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems.

Annie Marter, Moller and Lina Flint will executive produce with Christian Mercuri and Jon Oakes. Bold Films financed the drama with Amet Entertainment.

Fuqua and Gyllenhaal first collaborated on 2015’s “Southpaw.

Will Smith is to team up with Antoine Fuqua to tackle the slavery drama ‘Emancipation’ for Westbrook Studios and McFarland Entertainment.

The project will be based on the true story of Peter, a runaway slave forced to outwit cold-blooded hunters and the punishing Louisiana swamp on a tortuous journey to the Union Army and his only chance at freedom.

William N. Collage penned the script to the project which Smith will star in and Fuqua will take the helm.

Smith, James Lassiter and Jon Mone will produce through Westbrook Studios, along with McFarland Entertainment’s Joey McFarland and Escape Artists’ Todd Black. Fuqua will executive produce under his Fuqua Films banner, alongside Cliff Roberts.

Superstar athletes from every discipline are currently filming a documentary about the devastating impact that coronavirus has had on sports, Variety can report exclusively.

The project was conceived by Chris Paul, a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder and the president of the NBA players union, and producer Brian Grazer. Titled “The Day That Sports Stood Still,” the feature is being directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Imagine Documentaries.

Paul, a longtime friend of Grazer, will lead a cast of famous subjects from every major international sport as they share tales of how coronavirus affected their teams and fans in real time. The project will also bring emotional reminders of why these top performers fell in love with their respective games.

Paul will also serve as a producer alongside Grazer and his Imagine Entertainment co-head Ron Howard, and Imagine Documentaries co-head Justin Wilkes. The doc has not yet attached a distributor.

Amazon Studios has landed the conspiracy thriller series The Terminal List, starring and executive produced by Chris Pratt in his return to television. The ongoing drama, based on Jack Carr’s bestselling novel, is directed/executive produced by Antoine Fuqua and writen/executive produced by David Digilio (Strange Angel). Amazon Studios will co-produce with Civic Center Media, Mrc’s joint TV venture with UTA, in association with Mrc Television.

“Parasite” and “Jojo Rabbit” have won the top feature film trophies at the 70th Annual Ace Eddie Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Jinmo Yang won the dramatic feature category for “Parasite” over “Ford v Ferrari,” “Joker,” “The Irishman,” and “Marriage Story.” The victory marks the first time in Ace Eddie Awards history that a foreign language film has won the top prize.

Tom Eagles took the trophy for best edited comedy feature film for “Jojo Rabbit,” which won over “Dolemite Is My Name,” “The Farewell,” “Knives Out” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

“Jojo Rabbit” and “Parasite” are nominated for the Academy Award for Best Editing along with “Ford v Ferrari,” “Joker” and “The Irishman.”

“Parasite” and “Jojo Rabbit” have won the top feature-film awards at the American Cinema Editors’ 70th Annual Ace Eddie Awards, which were handed out on Friday night in Beverly Hills.

Both winners are nominated for the film-editing Oscar, along with “Ford v Ferrari,” “The Irishman” and “Joker.” Although those three films are more typical editing winners, “Parasite” beat them all in the Best Edited Feature Film (Drama) category, while “Jojo Rabbit” topped “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” for Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy).

The win for “Parasite” was only the second Ace Eddie win in history for a non-English film. In 2007, “Babel” tied with “The Departed” for the award.
