The film was shot at once in five languages: Russian, Polish, German, Dutch and Yiddish.
Christopher Lambert was the only actor of this international production to film his lines in English. He is dubbed into German in most European releases, but the Russian trailers feature his actual voice speaking English.
The main decoration, imitating the German death camp, were built in the Lithuanian city of Vilnius in accordance with the drawings of the archaeological excavations in Sobibor. Also, some scenes were shot in Fort Kaunas, where during the Second World War there was a Jewish ghetto.
The creators of the film were consulted by the representatives of the Alexander Pechersky Foundation, as well as by the Pechersky family - the daughter of Eleonora Grinevich and granddaughter Natalia Ladyychenko.
The plot of the film is based on a real uprising of the prisoners of the German Sobibor death camp, which was headed by the Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky. Mainly, the script is based on the book by Ilya Vasiliev "Alexander Pechersky: Breakthrough to Immortality."
