This movie truly commits to the cheesy action genre it was inspired by, and it's hilarious to watch. While it was probably not the director's intent, I'd much rather scream "WHAT" at the screen than be bored. And trust me, you will be screaming "WHAT". 6/10
Spectacular, unstoppable and thrilling installment of the ¨Resident Evil series¨, adapted from the video games characters produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi. Resident Evil movie to be in CGs (computer graphics), and also based directly off the games, and not an original script like the live-action movies were. It's a film for hardcore fans, it was great fun to be reunited with characters one played in the games. Most of the roles come from the video game series and are voiced by the same actors. The picture contains nonstop action, violent combats and spectacular images by means of computer generator. Much to its defense this production stayed more true to the atmosphere in the games that recent flicks, something every Resident Evil fan will recognize. As for those of you not familiar with the games I won't vouch for the movie, but you may have an agreeable time watching it anyway. Being a non-stop action gore-feast that provides for high-octane escapist entertainment with some eye-catching visuals and pulsing soundtrack. This exciting picture contains thrills, chills , action-filled with fierce fights against zombies and lots of gore and guts. The horror and action moments are fast moving and compactly realized. This outing takes more action, more approach , more violence and gore than previous and subsequent installments. The creepy images of wide range from the genuinely fantastic to the bizarre along with scary and amazing frames. It's predictable but we have seen some scenes in former films , but also its predictability is redeemed in part by the breathtaking action scenes. The CG animation looks slick enough, the camera angles are nicely directed, but the characters (and especially the movements and facial features of the protagonists) come across as fairly wooden and far from realistic. I remember being more impressed with the first Final fantasy (The spirits within) film when it came out.
This ¨Resident Evil¨ movie is created by its video game creator, Capcom. The live-action movies were created by Screen Gems and Sony Pictures. This is the first Resident Evil game-canon title to take place in real world city, like New York City. This is the third Resident Evil CGI film to feature Leon S. Kennedy as a main protagonist, while this is Chris Redfield's first. Leon first starred in Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) along with Chris' sister Claire, and also in Resident evil: Damnation (2012) along with Ada Wong. This is also Rebecca Chambers' first CGI movie appearance. This film is more for fans of the game series, not really intended for those who loved the movies. The cinematic adaptations about ¨Resident Evil¨ in live-action are the following (Milla Jovovich is the only actor to appear in all five films): ¨Resident evil¨ by Paul W Anderson with Milla , Eric Mabius , Michelle Rodriguez , James Purefoy , Colin Salmon ; this is the best , dealing with a group of containment specialists are sent in and have to fight employees who have been contaminated , while A. I. computer instigates a series of defensive measures to contain the virus . It's followed by ¨Resident evil II : Apocalypse¨ by Alexander Witt with Jared Harris , Iain Glen , Oded Fehr , Sienna Guillory . Furthermore , ¨Resident evil III¨ by Russell Mulcahy with Ali Larter, Ashanti , Mike Epps , Oded Fehr and of course Milla Jovovich ; ¨Resident Evil : Afterlife¨ by Paul W Anderson with usual actors along with Kim Coates , Sergio Peris Mencheta , Boris Kodjoe and Wentworth Miller , and ¨Resident evil 5 : retribution¨ with Boris Kodjoe, Johann Urb ,Aryana Engineer , Kevin Durand , Robin Kasyanov and as always Milla Jovovich. And Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) Director: Johannes Roberts with Kaya Scodelario, Robbie Amell, Donald Logue. Rating Resident Evil: Vendetta (2017) : 6/10. From someone who is not familiar with the games maybe skip it.
I was very excited to hear about this being released so perhaps my expectations were a tad high, and I can confirm they were not met.
The story very generic, the animation sub-par and the fight scenes were let's just say interesting. For some reason the creators thought they'd blend Resident Evil with The Matrix as the characters seem to be able to move neo-style to such extents I found myself cringing. These are average joes not ninja *Slaps creators wrists" bad creators, bad! Seriously why is Leon Kennedy doing bullet time triple back-flips with a dragon screw rotation while shooting zombies in the head and throwing knives and writing an essay and having a length conversation with his girlfriend before even landing? I mean okay that's a tad exaggerated but not as much as you'd imagine.
Vendetta isn't bad, it's just silly and anti-climatic compared to the previous films.
However, they opted to pull the same approach as they did in the actual movies, making it more about mutations and grotesquely huge aberrations, more than it was about zombies and terror. And of course, it has the obligatory rogue agent gone bad.
The storyline in "Resident Evil: Vendetta" was simplistic to the point where it was trivial and mundane. You saw everything coming a mile away, and there were no surprises or plot twists along the way. So it felt like you were strapped in for a ride that just went straight ahead with no ups and downs.
Now, I must admit that I am more than impressed with the quality of the CGI and the sheer level of details they manage to put into the CGI here. I mean, the textures and the minute details to everything was just spectacular. Just as it has been since the very first animated "Resident Evil" movie.
The characters in "Resident Evil: Vendetta" seemed a bit generic. Sure it was nice to have Leon and Chris in this particular animated movie, but they weren't subject to any real character development or growth, so it felt a bit tame, to say the least. And it was a bit too over the top with the way that both Leon and Chris could take on a large group of zombies and not even get scratched or come close to being in danger, and the motorcycle scene was just too far out there.
As for the zombies, well they were there, but unfortunately it wasn't the primary cause of attention in the movie. And I really don't get the thing with the hulking brutes that they like in the series - be it game or movie franchise. They are so out of place that it is an eyesore and an embarrassment to witness. And the hulking brute with the iron mask in "Resident Evil: Vendetta" was not particularly impressive, and when he evolved into something even bigger, I must admit that I was on the brink of just getting up and leaving.
"Resident Evil: Vendetta" is not an impressive animated movie in terms of story, characters or in comparison to its predecessors. Sure, it was a visual tour de force and a spectacle to behold. But I was left with a very shallow feeling once the movie ended, and actually said "was that really it?" This is definitely a movie for the hardcore fans of the "Resident Evil" game line.

Rebecca Chambers: Good boy.
Rebecca's Assistant: That's dessert, not coffee. You know that, right?
Rebecca Chambers: Your point?
Rebecca's Assistant: Nothing. Nothing at all, Professor Chambers.
