Netflix has unveiled the official trailer and key art for the adult animated comedy series Haunted Hotel, which comes from the spooky minds behind Rick and Morty.

Opening its doors on September 19, 2025, the series centers on a single mother of two who struggles to run a haunted hotel with the help of her estranged brother, who is now one of the ghosts haunting the hotel and thinks the other ghosts have some pretty good ideas.

The voice cast of the 10-episode Haunted Hotel series includes Will Forte (Nathan), Eliza Coupe (Katherine), Skyler Gisondo (Ben), Natalie Palamides (Esther), and Jimmi Simpson (Abaddon).

The series was created by Matt Roller, who recently served as a co-executive producer on Dan Harmon’s Krapopolis, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s Mr. Mayor, and two seasons of The Goldbergs. Previously, he wrote for Speechless, Community, Son of Zorn, Rick and Morty, and FX’s Archer.

There has been a rise in Bible-based tales and series, with shows such as Dallas Jenkins' The Chosen leading the way. Fox has gotten in on the act, as the network has announced its first cast members for its anticipated Biblical event series The Faithful, from Carol Mendelsohn. Per reports, Minnie Driver, Jeffrey Donovan, and Natacha Karam are all attached to star in the first part of the three-part series, which will look to tell some of the most iconic tales from the Old Testament from the lens of its most influential women. The six-episode Biblical limited series will see Driver play Sarah, Donovan will portray Abraham and Karam is set as Hagar in the series' first part. It will be directed and executive produced by Danny Cannon.

Updated: The upcoming Fox event series “The Faithful” has found its first three cast members.

Minnie Driver, Jeffrey Donovan, and Natacha Karam are all attached to star in the first part of the three-part series. Driver will play Sarah, Donovan will play Abraham, and Karam will play Hagar. The official description for first installment states:

“Sarah feels incomplete without the child that has been promised to her and her husband, Abraham, by God. After braving isolation, famine, the ire of Pharaoh, and several more years of barrenness, she resorts to her own plan to bring a child into the world involving her maidservant Hagar (Karam) and Abraham. However, jealousy soon sets in after Hagar gives birth to Ishmael (from whose lineage the Islamic religion traces its roots). Then a miracle happens… And personal freedoms are at odds with long-held grievances and shattered love.”

The star of the ABC's sitcom Roseanne, Roseanne Barr, was fired from the sitcom after the controversial remakes she made on social media. Seven years after her firing, Barr not only does she still support her comments, but went on to drag other people again, including J.K. Rowling.

The latter is the author of the bestselling fantasy series Harry Potter, which was adapted into eight films between 2001 and 2011, and has a new TV series in the works. However, Rowling is also persona non grata over her controversial views on the transgender community. While the two received similar backlash from the LGBTQ+ community, Barr highlighted to Variety that this didn't bring them together and had harsh words not just for her, but also for Disney boss Bob Iger.

Minnie Driver has joined “Emily in Paris” Season 5, Variety has learned exclusively.

The fifth season of the popular Netflix drama series was announced in September 2024, with production kicking off earlier in May in Rome. Lily Collins once again returns as Emily. The cast for Season 5 also includes: Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Eugenio Franceschini, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie and Ashley Park.

Driver will play Princess Jane, described as “A friend of Sylvie’s (Leroy-Beaulieu) who married into a royal family.”

Driver is best known for her film roles, including her Oscar nominated performance in “Good Will Hunting.” She has also been in films like “Owning Mahowny,” the 2004 version of “The Phantom of the Opera,” and 2021’s live-action “Cinderella.” In television, Driver has starred in shows like the FX series “The Riches,” the ABC sitcom “Speechless,” and the Netflix miniseries “The Witcher: Blood Origin.”

Amazon Prime Video’s “Legally Blonde” prequel series has added five recurring guest stars, Variety has learned.

Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, and Lisa Yamada have all joined the upcoming prequel.

As previously announced, the show will follow Elle Woods during her high school years. Lexi Minetree stars as Elle. Additional cast members include: June Diane Raphael, Tom Everett Scott, Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, and Amy Pietz.

Wepper has been cast as Elle’s chemistry teacher and high school cheer team choreographer Ms. Burke. Burtka has been cast as Elle’s neighbor, Chad, while Harder has been cast as Chad’s husband, Charlie. Maisonet and Yamada will play Tiffany and Amber respectively, friends in Elle’s Bel Aire high school circle.

Disney is planning to vacate the Fox Studio Lot by the end of the year as it looks to bring its Los Angeles-based production teams closer together in Burbank, TheWrap has learned.

As part of Fox’s $71.3 billion deal with Disney in 2019, the former kept control of the 53-acre lot on Pico Boulevard in Century City and reached a seven-year leaseback deal with Disney to avoid production disruptions.

Over the past year, Disney Entertainment Television has been actively working to create a creative hub where its production teams can work more closely together, an insider familiar with the matter tells TheWrap. As part of the plan, Disney has decided to not renew its lease and its teams based at the Fox lot are in various stages of relocating to workplaces in Burbank, including the Disney Studio Lot. ABC’s Tgif programming block had viewers hoping for Friday nights to watch their favorite sitcom.

Over the years, many people believed the acronym stood for “Thank God It’s Friday.” However, in a new interview, Jim Janicek, who help create the programming block, clarified that the letters stood for “Thank Goodness It’s Funny.”

“We were talking about things like the ‘Friday Fun Club,'” Janicek said on Pod Meets World about the names they considered before Tgif. “There’s a whole list somewhere I probably could dig up, but I remember that one. You know, ‘It’s Friday Night.’ Lots of little short-isms.”

Janicek recalled that the network’s executives were initially worried that using Tgif would cause problems with a chain of restaurants.

John Ross Bowie is set to return as Barry Kripke in the upcoming Big Bang Theory spinoff currently in development at Max. He joins fellow former cast members Kevin Sussman (Stuart Bloom), Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler), and Lauren Lapkus (Denise), all of whom have signed talent-holding deals with Warner Bros. Television as the project moves forward.

Although the new show hasn’t officially been greenlit, Chuck Lorre, co-creator of The Big Bang Theory, is leading the spinoff alongside Zak Penn and Bill Prady. The three are writing the script and will serve as executive producers. Details about the storyline remain under wraps.

Bowie originally appeared in The Big Bang Theory as Barry Kripke, a plasma physicist at Caltech and Sheldon Cooper’s frequent rival. Introduced in Season 2, Kripke became a recurring character known for his competitive antics and unique speech pattern. Bowie continued playing the role throughout the show’s 12-season run.

John Ross Bowie is poised to reprise the role of Caltech plasma physicist and string theorist Barry Kripke in a spinoff of CBS’ long-running sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” currently in the early stages of development at Max.

An individual familiar with the matter tells TheWrap that because the project has not yet received a series greenlight, Bowie has signed a holding deal with Warner Bros. Television.

The spinoff comes from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Wbtv. Lorre serve as an executive producer and writer alongside Zak Penn and Bill Prady. Additional details about the project remain under wraps.

Other “Big Bang Theory” alums poised to return include Kevin Sussman, who portrayed Stuart Bloom; Brian Posehn, who played Bert Kibbler; and Lauren Lapkus, who played Denise.

Introduced in Season 2, Kripke became a fan favorite, known for incessantly mocking his colleague and rival Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and his speech impediment due to rhotacism.

Another former “Big Bang Theory” cast member has signed on to the spinoff series currently in the works at Max.

Variety has confirmed that John Ross Bowie has signed a talent holding deal with studio Warner Bros. Television that would see him reprise the role of Barry Kripke, or “Kwipke” if you’re nasty. Bowie would appear alongside previously announced cast members Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and Kevin Sussman. Those three would also be reprising their roles from the original show.

The potential show was originally announced as being in development at Max back in April 2023. Exact plot details remain under wraps. It remains in development and has not been greenlit to series at this time. “Big Bang Theory” co-creator Chuck Lorre is executive producing the new project via Chuck Lorre Productions, with Lorre currently under an overall deal with Wbtv. Zak Penn and fellow co-creator Bill Prady also executive produce.

There is one problem with the lively new James Carville documentary, Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid, premiering at Telluride: For much of the film, Carville worries about the dangers of having Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate.

Obviously, the movie (which was acquired by CNN Films) was conceived and filmed before Biden dropped out of the race. During the last year, long before the June debate with Trump, Carville was deeply concerned that Biden’s presence on the ballot could cost the Democrats the election. That all changed on July 21st, when Biden dropped out. But by then, the film was close to completion. A brief end title reports the news of Harris’ ascension, yet the film still seems skewed.

Nevertheless, it provides some great background on Carville and certainly convinces us that he is one of the most colorful figures on the scene today — and still making noise.

Many Eyes, the new band formed by ex-Every Time I Die singer Keith Buckley, have announced their debut album, The Light Age, out September 6th. The single “Harbinger” can be heard now.

Continuing where he left off in Every Time I Die, Buckley helms a ferocious brand of metalcore in his new band, and “Harbinger” is perhaps the most aggro track from the group to date. Veteran showrunner Tim Doyle has been publicly censured by the Writers Guild of America West after a guild panel found him guilty of posting a racist image on Facebook last year.

“The Writers Guild of America West (“Wgaw”) initiated charges against member Tim Doyle under Article X of the Constitution and Bylaws of the Wgaw (“Constitution”),” guild leaders wrote in a message to members sent Thursday. “The charges alleged that on August 9, 2023 Mr. Doyle posted, on a Facebook group for Wgaw members, an image that members perceived as a racist and offensive depiction of a lynching. Netflix’s latest animated series order comes from several people behind Rick and Morty.

The streamer has ordered The Undervale from creator and showrunner Matt Roller, a former writer for the Adult Swim mainstay and current co-executive producer of Fox’s Krapopolis. Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon and executive producer Steve Levy are also exec producing, along with Spider-Man: No Way Home writer Chris McKenna. Erica Hayes, also a Rick and Morty alum, will be supervising director on The Undervale.

“The Undervale is wildly inventive and I’m very grateful to Matt, Chris, Dan and their team for bringing their talents to Netflix,” said Billy Wee, director of adult animation at Netflix. “They are phenomenal collaborators, and I can’t wait for fans all over the world to experience this hilarious show.”

The show hails from creator and showrunner Matt Roller. The official logline states, “A single mother of two struggles to run a haunted hotel with the help of her estranged brother, who is now one of the ghosts and thinks the other ghosts have some pretty good ideas.”

Along with Roller, Chris McKenna also executive produces along with Dan Harmon and Steve Levy. Erica Hayes is the supervising director. Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina of Titmouse will executive produce, with Titmouse providing the animation.

The Good Will Hunting actress said on Mondays’ episode of the I Weigh With Jameela Jamil podcast that she was made to feel like “an idiot” when she pushed back on a costume decision for the disaster action thriller, despite filming in “20 million gallons of water.”

“It’s set during this massive storm,” she explained. “There were huge rain machines. We shot crazy hours. It was tough…. Everybody else could wear a wetsuit underneath their costume, and I was told by the producers that I couldn’t because they wanted to see my nipples, and that there was no point in having the wet T-shirt if you couldn’t have what was underneath it.”
